jerry52 893
I love meeting and talking with people at our public gun range.Just a few weeks ago the wife and I went down to try out some 380 and 9mm reloads. and next to us is a family who is going through their CCW training. A husband and wife and 16 and 19 year old boys. Well the instructor left and after a little chit chat I asked them if they wanted to shoot some of our guns. They were newbies and after and hour shooting the 6 hand guns I had brought they had to go. But they all thanked me for the warm generosity that we had shown. This is what makes shooting fun IMO The wife said as we were picking up "You only shot 30 of your reloads". She was right That is all I shot but I had a great time.
Dad2142Dad 6,559
Glad you ran into to some nice ones. It can be very fun and rewarding. Other times not so much, if jerks are there. I like to go on Sunday mornings to the state range (100 yards). Opens at sunrise and usually have it to myself for an hour or two. My version of church. I have a back yard range, just a 50 yards, but helps keep me sharp on pistols and shotguns. I'll wait until the neighbors go to church and go out back to mine if I don't feel like driving 30 minutes.
JoeAK 337
Yeah, I've met some good people at our public range, met some real assholes too. As for the good ones, half the fun of the trip is letting them shoot my S-12, I usually get to shoot some of theirs in return, one of them was a Kriss Super V, awesome gun.
yakdung 2,926
Great you met some nice folks. The last outing my daughter and I had at the range, two punk jackasses next to us were swinging their gun muzzles in every direction. It took the look on my face, and the owner ran over to these idiots yelled "if you don't cut the shit, I will shoot you myself". Not a good experience for my daughter that is just starting to shoot. jerry52 893
On one outing years back we met a great couple and shot each others guns and had a great afternoon. When they left they gave me a Remora Holster , it turned out to be the people who make them. I guess the red Hummer with Remora all over it was a hint that I did not pick up right away. Nice people
Ronin38 2,117
I met one of each at the range one day. I was sighting-in a rifle on the 100 yd. range, and the guy next to me let me use his spotting scope a couple times. We were discussing my results at one point, when this old guy comes over and gets right in my face lecturing me about range rules, cease fire called, yada, yada, then stormed off. I didn't even get the chance to tell him that neither one of us heard anyone call a cease fire to check targets.
DLT 1,646
I've met plenty of nice folks at our range. But I've also met more than a few people who scared the hell out of me with their lack of safety.
magsite20 1,664
Yep and nope met some good ones and seen some that did shit that made my skin crawl. To me the three worst ones are: Newbies with a malfunction that gun is going to get pointed anywhere and everywhere while they screw with trying to clear the jam. The new to shooting that think when the line is cold it’s still OK to fuck with their gun while people are down range. The other ones that seem to want to shoot people in the leg or foot are the new cowboys with a single action or lever action while loading the muzzle can’t seem to stay down range. breid1970 327
Ok, so I am at a local indoor range. Its big, the RSO's are dicks but its clean and they let you use ledsleds that they provide. So I'm on or about lane 9. The place is packed. Down to my left a woman in her mid twenties is shooting a semi auto. There are, I believe 25 lanes. This woman has some sort of malfunction. About now I have stepped a pace back from my lane and stretch out my lower back. My rifle is on the rest pointed safely down range and on safe. Well, the woman with the malfunction backs up a few paces and turns to her right. It should be noted she STILL has the pistol in her right hand and now she is covering 24 other shooters who have no idea what kind of danger they are now in. She yells something and her pistol discharges. The round slams into a wooden bench that is right against the wall down near lane 25! The RSO comes running over and I am thinking that this crazy bitch is done. They are going to boot her right there.. But no.. Either the guy was mesmerized by her boobs, or he new her but all he did was say something to her and escort her BACK to her lane! I packed up my gear, demanded a refund and along with five or six other shooters left. I have not been back since
