jerry52 893
Just got the wife a new Chevy Equinox LTZ loaded less sun roof for Christmas. I read in a forum that it should be clayed before the fist waxing. Anyone have imput on this?
Dad2142Dad 6,559
Have tried the clay, was not impressed. But I am not an expert. I would suggest you find a detailer
patriot 7,197
Wash the car. Put a plastic bag over your hand. Feel the paint. If it feels rough, clay bar it to remove the contaminants stuck to the paint. Apply a good wax. Apply detail spray after waxing. http://www.meguiarsdirect.com http://meguiarsonline.com I do this on my 2010 Camaro SS, my 2014 Silverado and my wife's 2009 Saturn Vue.
jerry52 893
I just want the surface to be perfect since it is a black car. Is a good wax the spray stuff or a paste. Also what does the detail spray do? Edited December 31, 2015 by jerry52
patriot 7,197
The detail spray brings out the depth of the gloss and makes the surface slicker so less crap sticks to your paint. Edited December 31, 2015 by patriot

Thank for the plastic bag trick, think I will cay it then glaze it then wax it and then she can detail spray it.
G O B 3,516
Clay bar is for removing grit and other contaminates IF they are not removed by a good washing FIRST!
jerry52 893
And I have been told glaze fills in the spaces were the contaminants have been for a smooth surface to wax
6500rpm 670
My brother swears by it to get rid of all the little tiny specs you don't see but you can feel by running your hand across the surface. I can tell you his cars are smooth as a baby's ass. It all depends on how much work your willing to put in to it for a every day driver. I'm not sure it gives you any additional protection, but it has it's merits.

Saiga Saga 7
I would. New cars have a lot of impurities and deposits on the clear coat from factory, carrier ride, and dealer's lot that you don't want to just wax over. Shouldn't take long since it's new and after the waxing you will be amazed at how that black paint shines.
jerry52 893
That's what I have been told thanks
