JonWienke 131
Could you at least imagine I have 5000 rounds of 12ga and 20000 rounds of M855 green tip?

Rhodes1968 1,638
How many star systems would have to be mined to build such around that massive a star? That is a lot of mass and a poor choice of star type to use, red dwarfs last far longer, far smaller, and more stable hence require far less material. Still this is nothing more than a wild guess from people despairing over the lack of evidence of any existing corporeal life out there. Conjecture is fine, in science fiction, but science itself must have a higher bar for wild assed guesses.
G O B 3,516
^^^^^ THIS! It is far more likely that the "mega structure" is just an inordinately large asteroid belt, caused by the collision of 2 or more planets. Occam's razor- the SIMPLEST explanation is almost always the correct answer.
Rhodes1968 1,638
Well it is kind of like a flat earther trying to explain the Coriolis effect isnt it. That is whole nuther branch of unimaginable foolishness by people that should know better. But I hear it sells a lot of books... hmmmm Edited April 22, 2016 by Rhodes1968

Capt Nemo 882
The Death Star is supposedly about 160-180 Km in diameter. That's about the volume of all the salt on earth. The outside layer would have to be at least 12" thick steel to deflect space junk and meteoroids. That's a LOT of steel to move into orbit! We'd probably have to construct Mohorovic mines to suck the mantle to get that much metal.
HB of CJ 1,263
But ... but ... but ... didn't the first Death Star have the largest ever ever installed Hyper Drive in the whole known Galaxy? That when the Death Star went into Hyper Space it consumed more energy than an entire heavily populated PLANETS daily energy consumption? That the outer hulls were over 50 meters thick EACH and there were three (3) layers? That would take a whole lot of asteroids.. Humm. :)

Rhodes1968 1,638
Realistically until a practical method of converting energy to matter easily is found, if indeed possible, nothing like these structures could exist. So far only the Creator has managed that feat.
Capt Nemo 882
I do believe they accidently did it with the Nova laser. They fired the laser one time without a fusion pellet in place, and the particle detectors got a hit on something.
