toshbar 36
I instructed at an Appleseed Project event this weekend, and late Sunday the instructors went to the full distance range and got to shoot. This was at the RWVA home range in Ramseur, NC. The range goes out to 500 yards. Those numbers above the targets are 6 feet tall. And here is my 5 shot group from my 5.45 Saiga.....7 inches at 500 yards! $450 gun + $40 scope + 30 year old russian surplus ammo FTW!!!! You may have seen my other photo of my 13" group at 500 yards. I thought that was as good as it was going to get, but when I turned this one out today I was truly surprised. This was rapid firing off sandbags.
ChileRelleno 7,074
I can believe it... Even a blind dog finds bone once in awhile. J/K No really, I believe you, but some here will straight call ya a liar. Nice range, I like the layout alot. Just one question though, whats over the hill? I can see some fools accidentally lobbing rounds over the hill whilst trying to get on the 5s. .................................................................. I keep asking the owner of my favorite local range to host a Appleseed shoot, sadly it hasn't happened yet. We did however just have a great CMP Garand/Springfield match, and that was alot of fun and a learning experience for many. Appleseed & CMP are great resources for civilian marksmanship! Shirley if they are having a long range there with road access...and a CMP/Appleseed shoot...it is long woods and plenty of land behind there to insure safety...If it is what i see on the googlemaps it is plenty of space
paprotective 362
tosh.. I thought sub-5" groups with my 545x39 at 200 yards was good for me.. All I can say is WOW.. and I'm jealous as heck with you haveing access to 500 yard range.. I'm stuck with 200 yards here.. Good job man. Al
toshbar 36
Ahh, thanks guys. It's a great range. Nothing much over the hill. Chicken farms and woods. Before you're allowed to shoot on the 500 yard range, you are checked out on the 25 yard range to make sure you won't jerk one up far enough to go over the hill. jgillaspy 24
Exactly why I want a 5.45x39 to take to the Appleseed Shoot I'm doing in December... What scope and mount did you use? I was thinking about using Tech-Sights. JG

Tech Sights on Ruger 10/22s are fantastic. I haven't experienced them on an AK. I almost got some for my saiga, maybe when I have a little more extra money..... EDIT: quite a bit extra money. I just looked and they're $110 bucks! Edited November 1, 2010 by toshbar

IndyArms 10,189
when you DRIVE to the targets at 500 yards... How often do you actually take the drive??? I would probably use a 1/4 tank of gas at the range!! HAHAHAHA BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!! Hang on... Gotta go check the holes... BRB... 10 minutes later... BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!! BRB... Repeat every 5 shots... LOL

BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!! BRB... Repeat every 5 shots... LOL Pretty much how it runs. We have the range 'HOT' and everyone can fire as they want. Usually people claim a paper target to shoot for groups, and then there are pop-up reactive targets and the steel to shoot. After everyone has fired to their hearts content (usually between 10-15 min), we'll call the range COLD and whoever wants to go check groups can hop in the truck and go for a ride.
