  1. I have nine Mak 90 style buttstocks. I used one to fashion a shorter buttstock for my .308 Saiga to use with a scope. All are new condition. $9 + $5 Priority Mail shipping.
  2. As far as the ATI stocks being strong, previous post I mentioned that I returned a Mosin stock for warranty. Well i'm sure that i'm not alone in having "dealings" with UPS, funny story! When I brought in in for shipment, the "lovely" lady behind the counter questions me about my packaging. I explain it's packaged well enough. She calls the manager over. Now the BOSS is in the drivers seat! This isn't good enough for her. I explain that it's going back to be melted down at most. It's warped, unusable, junk. She says that it could be damaged worse and they could be held responsibl
  3. Take one of these same cheap Chinese stocks and skeletonize it. Then you wouldn't have that huge/awkward grip.
  4. Sorry, it's been a while since I could get back here. I was saying that i'd like to post just how to do this, not hard. Came from a 1999 magazine. Basically, a base coat(grey), then a light coat of grey w/white spatter auto trunk paint, covered with a clear polyurethane varnish. Remember, light coats and a lot of drying time between coats. The original idea was for synthetic stocks. To get rid of that slick, slippery when wet feel, for hunting rifles. Hey, works on wood too. You wind up with a pebbly, almost rough finish that acually feels great.
  5. ( they dont swing THAT way! LOL!! )
  6. I bought an ATI Mosin stock 6-7 years ago, it was warped, put it away and forgot about it. So they may have some problems. Just a few months ago I pulled the stock out and shipped it back for replacement, NO problem. Lifetime warranty. I will say that it is heavy, but it's about indestructible. If it was light then you'd have the it feels cheap and cheesy comment. I have a Choate sporter stock on an SKS, great! I wish they made a model for removable mags, then i'd have two Choate stocks. I don't have any experience with the particular stocks that you're talking about though. BTW, y
  7. Did somebody die? Did I miss something? I've got 15 guns for sale on another board, more coming up. In the last three weeks i've had several people back out of a commitment. Even though I too grew up with "your word is your bond", this just ain't the same! New Age, Age of the Internet, 21st century, whatever. Look at it this way, keep going the way you are and your going to have a gun and an ulcer
  8. I love it, I dare say American ingenuity at its finest. What do ya' call it - FrankenSaiga? Great job!
  9. Didn't say I was gonna' do it, remember no $$$, just one of those dreams I had! Then there was the dream night before last..........
  10. I did the QD conversion also. The threads are not quite the same, but will work. Don't over tighten and use those white plastic spacers or make some. Since you don't want to overtighten these give some slight "crush" factor. On the original buttstock, you could always use use one of the QD forend nuts as a locknut, from the inside. Lock-tite wouldn't be a bad idea either. On mine, wooden buttstock, I just used a normal QD "wood screw" type. They're made in different lengths by the way, as are the "machine screw" type fore-end mounts. Check a Brownells catalog for a good idea of what is availa
  11. Well, I meant starting from scratch, not an adaptation. As in manufacturing them. My problem, i'm a small $$$ man with large $$$ ideas.
  12. I know I replied to to IndyArms question, but it ain't here! Giant rat that's pretty much it. A Louisiana breeder imported a bunch from, I beleive, South America in the early 1900's. They are huge rodents whose furs, when dyed, were a substitute for beaver fur. These critters escaped into the bayous and multiplied, you do know how mice/rats multiply, expotentially. Over the years the state tried everything to elinate them, from bounties to now trying to convince hunters that they taste good They devour the vegatation at such a rate that they are a danger to the ecology of the swamps
  13. First a quaifier, limited knowledge regarding AK/Saiga. OK, thats been said. A traditional folder would require a pistol grip. On a Saiga the trigger group is mounted in that location. So modification of your original weapon would be needed. That got me thinking, usually a dangerous and expensive thing, the out come of my thinking I mean! I've seen a shotgun style pistol grip advertised for several times, though I don't know who makes them. How about building, from scratch, a pistol grip that slides into the receiver that also works as a trunion to mount a slightly shorter folding stoc
  14. IndyArms, i'm not trying to discourage anyone from buying from you, but damned, doesn't it just make sense, for what they want to buy 10? Hell it was less than $23 to my door. Then when they're sold out we'll have a supply to trade around! Just my 2 cents worth!
  15. They are beautiful, old battle horses. I'm in the midst of selling 2 of the 3 that I own, the last i'll keep. 7.62x54R, accurate, a boat load of fun! More delicate and finicky than the Garand, so the design was phased out. Problem was, the insistance to use a full bore cartridge. Once the Russians got over the idea of a high power cartridge in a semi or full auto, what we are familiar with now has emerged. Only after the AK was designed, could they upgrade to the 7.62x54R. Get an SVTwhile and if you can. A kick in the shorts
