  1. Take a look on my post "jams" mikey1
  2. GOOD NEWS, I went to the range today with a few different "Colt" .45 auto recoil springs... and 2 boxs of LOW vel. shells. NOT ONE jam(20x70) mags!, I used all of these on the Saiga front spring location (Saiga, removed, relaced by Colt, rear Saiga spring in place) 8#,9#,10#,11#,12#(Springs are rated in pounds). (I did not see any difference in regular /or/varible spring style)I feel the 11#/12# worked the best. I THINK I was correct.... too much Saiga spring pressure = jams on low vel. ammo. If you know anyone who shoots/works on Colt autos, they will have some of these springs. Even though I DI
  3. See my post... some of the "problem" is in the Saiga recoil spring system I'm sure....(ONE SIZE FITS ALL). I just have not got to shoot with the Colt .45 spring in place of the Saiga front spring. 20x70 mags are almost a must if you want consistancy. I have done all and also have the gun converted to pistol grip, etc. My only use for the gun is competition.. I need it too work. I will post the "Tune" soon. mikey1
  4. I have the same problems, check my "posts" I'm on the right trail of the problem. mikey1
  5. BECAREFUL of what you buy, IF you are going to shoot 2 3/4" rounds buy the 20x70 mags. (TANTEL). You will see some "posts" that people have the "wonder" mags that shoots 2 3/4" and 3" all the time.... turn the follwer around etc. Don't believe it...!!! They MAY work sometime.... PUT a 2 3/4" shell in a 20x76 mag, and look at what's going to happen... chances are NOT good that the gun will function, (the 2 3/4" shell is NOT started into the feed lips.) Check out the "DINZAG" post, 10 rounder for $32) THEY work! I did things a little different than he did but got the same results. mikey1
  6. MOE info.. "tuning" any of the recoil springs for any of the Saiga guns (2 piece springs) should be pretty easy. Simply, pull the front spring off and substitute a COLT .45 spring. I went digging in my Colt auto spring box and found they are the same i.d. The stock Saiga spring is .047 wire, I substituted a Wolff 12# progressive (.045 wire) which is also about 2 coils shorter. While I have not shot the 20 guage since I discovered this...one of these Colt springs will WORK! Most gunsmith's have these springs. I will not post till after I have shot again. Low Velocity, ejection perfection is th
  7. A VENT...I often wonder why we as voters give these "Government" agencies the power to "mangle" the CONSTITUTION as "they" see fit?? Unfortunately, our ELECTED representatives seem to listen to who is "whining" the loudest, and NOT protecting our rights as the CONSTITUTION was meant too! Still, all in all we are better off than MOST... Ask our servicemen who are serving their Country in Iraq.. life is pretty cheap there. AT LEAST, join the NRA. mikey1,
  8. FYI... I'm following up the original "post" on "jamming" w/low vel. loads. I have polished the hammer and other related parts,as suggested...BUT.. I believe the MAIN problem lies with the recoil spring system, ie... by polishing the hammer etc. lots of friction is reduced, I agree. I am shooting only in competion and do not use the Saiga 20 for anyother purpose than that. The weapon must function 100%. On 7/19/05 I shot several boxs of these Hi Vel. shells with NO MALFUNCTIONS as fast as I could pull the trigger(both 5 rd. and 10 rd. mags) WIN."Super Speed" WHS207(7 1/2 shot x 1275 FPS) &
  9. The rifles and shotgun use different BHO opens. Check this sites, "for sale stuff". Someone had rifle BHO 's for sale a while ago.(make sure you get the spring,or you will have to make one. mikey1
  10. Well, I'll try the polishing idea. Enlarging the gas ports did absolutely nothing, same jams???. I've bought some Hi-velocity rounds, will try that as well. The spent rounds are stuck at 90 degrees in the gun and another new round is trying to make it's way into the chamber.... this may point out why the polishing works? I'm wondering about the recoil springs...maybe too much for the 20?? The springs look the same for the 12 and the 20..I will do do some checking. Thanks for the input. mikey1
  11. Enjoy the Saiga's . I would buy the "20" for that price. REMMEMBER the mags are the problem.... they are hard to find. The 20's arn't quite as bad, NOW! There are 2 very different mags for the 20.. 20x70 mm (shoots ONLY 2 2/4") and the 20x76("may" shoot both 2 3/4" and 3" shells???)(size is marked on the mag.) "TANTEL"(Doug Ford) had both sizes for the 20. (I just received 8, five rounders from him) Service is excellent!!! and the price is as good as you will find. There is LOTS and LOTS of good info on this site. If you are a compitition shooter? or wish to change mags as fast as possible,
  12. "pics" are a problem. I'm not much with the computer. I think the pics are too large and/or I do not know what I'm doing ???. I've got the compress box marked , "zipped"?? the the folder but when I tried to post the pic of the 12 ga. mag I modified for the Saiga and a pistol buttstock it was still too big, it said and would not accept it??? BUT I can e-mail pics...???? SO, I am lost. I don't know what it takes to post a pic on this site??. The sight is about a 10 min. job(if you have the tap).File the brass one flat, center punch, drill & tap.(Take the selector plug out) mikey1
  13. UPDATE..... FYI, I used my AK 47 barrel removal set-up on the Saiga 20 (12 ton press & trunion holder).I removed the gas block. The 3 gas ports were about .072 and angled to the rear about 45 degrees. I drilled them to .086. BUT I WONDER if I found PART of the original source of the ejection problem when I decided to clean the gas piston?? It did not move front to rear very freely but WAS NOT stuck and had a little amount of "crud" inbetween the piston grooves.( I remembered that I can always hear the piston move in my 12 guage when tilting the gun back and forth) I never heard the piston
  14. Wolverine, In this case it is not the mags. The 20x70 mags are made to take only the 2 3/4" shells. The rounds are getting into the gun...they just arn't coming out. TWGLADF, I have some of those. I was hoping to get the gun to function 100% with the low velocity rounds. I had little if any suggnificant muzzle rise with the low velocity ammo...I was able to keep the sight on the next "plate" very nicely. The 20 guage could be the "cat's meow" for these speed shoots? Thanks, mikey1
  15. I shot?? the Saiga 20 in competion this weekend. The 10 round(see DINZAG post.) mag was not immune. I had nothing but massive jams with the low velocity 2 3/4" ammo. (gas port on #2) All mags are 20x70. (GOT LOTS of ribbing about Russian "junk" from the 12 gauge 1100 Rem. boys, They said I should "oil" the gun and I replyed that I had done that BUT maybe I should toss some "dirt" into the gun and it would work!!! HA, HA. ) Most were 90 degree stovepipes w/spent shell wedged into the bolt. The 20 is a recent purchase and completly stock, in like new condition with about 250 rounds thru it. I w
  16. DINZAG, Looks like we all want some more capacity???. I'll add just a bit to your excellent post. The 2 mags I cut were not the same diamentions internally,(thick on one end & thin on the other) it was critical to align both pieces and "Tack" them as you sugested & make sure the follower slides easy. I thought the spring was a little short but no problem... I had a damaged AK 20 round clip... the spring "snaps" right in and without cutting and the mag still holds 10 rounds and feeds with authority. I have not found the 20x76 mags able to feed the 2 3/4 " shells(even w/the follower tu
  17. For original Saigas WITH stock location of trigger group. NOT for modified guns. FITS all these Saigas.(12,20,7.62) unknown 223,308. I removed after trigger group conversion. Same length as stock unit. Material is "black" laminate/plastic over wood. In very good condition $30.00 to you in USA. Unable to post pic. Will e-mail pic if your intested? mikey1
  18. I don't know about the Galil, BUT IF you need to build your own BHO, see the reply from "Jeric" to my BHO post. The information/pic he provided is very accurate. Use the us guage size (?) metal .086( I used thicker=more work ), relieve the trigger side slightly at the pin hole , make a simple spring and you've got it. Cost was less than $10.00 Hope this helps? mikey1
  19. Glad to see the "Motorcityman" is alive and well? I was planning to use the Siaga for 3 gun competion and had done the usual modifications as have the rest of the members. Without high cap mags the weapon is not much good for my intended use. I really don't wish too pay the going price(?) that the 8 rounders/or/ even the 5 rounders are going for.... so the gun sits... With some help from the forum and the contributors, I' ve done the pistol grip, trigger control group and BHO... even fabbed a 7 round mag. I've got the barrel set up for "porting" and that was the next project. There is no reaso
  20. My mag was metal. Not what you have?? Sorry. mikey1
  21. Well..... I've been about as expectant as the rest of you...where are these USA Mags??, Is it going to happen or just another "FOO" "FOO". Story?? Surely, with all these "posts" SOME real person MUST see a market for a mag for the shotgun. I have not seen a recent post from the orignator. Anyone have any info???? mikey1
  22. ForGreatJustice,That's what I thought(expensive).I found this at a "Going out of Business" sale at a local gun shop. It was obviously a shotgun mag to start with,so it was not a big change and I didn't want to get anyones hopes up,so I didn't even post a pic. mikey1
  23. Time to "tinker"? You may "like" your Saiga now, but you will "love" it after you change the trigger group!! (This removes the "rocker" in the stock Saiga.) It's not that hard to do,single hook hammer style is just fine. All the instructions are on this site and are accurate. May as well do the pistol grip too(USE USA parts!). No matter which vendor you buy from, you will likely receive "Tapco" parts, which are fine. I had never done this modification and did both my shotgun and rifle, with normal hand tools. mikey1
  24. As I said... I don't see a use for these mags ....they are probably as pricey as the Russian ones?? This modification was not difficult. Normal tools most of us have. Holds 7 rounds.mikey1 Bvamp, I just tried to post pics,..My computer showed it was downloading ,got about half way and then quit. I will see if I can e-mail you a pic?? Bvamp, tried again this a.m. Same thing ?? pic #1. 9.82 kb,#2. 1.09 mb, #3. 98 mb. all are jpeg. As I said, not a computer "wizz". Tried sending smallest ..no go. I have sent pics on e-mail before don't know what the problem is? mikey 1
