  1. Here's my first conversion, I'm only waiting on some work on my Flash Hider to finish it up. I got lucky, I guess, seems I got all mil-spec features. dimples, handguard notches on barrel, no- stepped barrel, PG hole already cut, and threads under shroud. Shes a March 09, which seems to have been a good month for Saigas in 7.62x39...

  3. Thanks, i couldnt find anything in the search function. I am aware of how crappy the 'bullet' mags are, and i will avoid these, too. Now, if someone would just import 10 container ships full of Izhmash 30 rounders into the US....
  4. Anyone use these ISD Slabside 30 rounders? Bulgarian, steel reinforced polymer... http://www.ifatactic...om/page/1012871 Just wondering,..
  5. This place has both of them.... http://aa-ok.com/ak-ak47-akm-ak74-parts/ak-front-sights.html
  6. PRK Arms in Cali sells fully assembled cali compliant krinks for under $800, with a single shot sled and BB installed for DROS, then after DROS you bring it back to them and they will convert it to semi-auto for you, legally....cali has strange laws, once DROS is finished as a single shot pistol, no law prohibits you from making it semi auto again....
  7. Try a small round chain saw file, you can get them at hardware stores. very long and thin, and can get into tight places to file out small areas. Also, a small flat chain saw raker file will help file down the flat edge where it comes over into the magwell a bit. (those look like miniture flat files). after filing down the places the bullets are catching on, take some find sandpaper and smooth it all out, and blow everything clean in there. Should fix it...
  8. looks like something I was just looking for, but yes, how is access to the trigger while folded, and what would the OAL length be while folded on a 7.62 with a stock 16" barrel? just thinking of the Cali laws about folded length... I also think a left-folder would be a nice option for us not using the optics rail...
  9. Thanks for the replies, just the kind of pro and con info i needed to make a decision. No offense to the wire folders, i just prefer the looks of the Ace. Now I have to save up money to decide if I want to invest in the Ace or not...hmmm....
  10. You know that you can go ahead and move the trigger group and with a monsterman or similar grip, you would still be cali legal, right? You dont have to keep the odd trigger position as long as the rifle remains 'featureless' in the eyes of the law...
  11. After restoring my Saiga, i'm not so sure i like the tapco collapsible stock anymore (yeah, yeah, i know you guys told me this would happen), and I;m thinking of going to an Ace side folder, but I'm unsure about the price, and cutting off the tang. I know they have one with no mods, but it looks a lil strange to me (the block holding the folder looks too long). So, you guys with Ace folders that cut the tang to insert the internal trunnion block, was it worth it? how do you like them? let me know, thanks.
  12. I say the hair makes you about 30% less combat effective. There should be a sub-forum for the proper conversion... Sal, My favorite post from you ever...
  13. It does look like someones attempt on limiting trigger movement. Maybe they were unhappy with overtravel...i saw a write up on a mod like this on one of the other forums. Does it help? Or is it just in the way?
  14. Thanks for the replies. I hate waiting but I guess I have to. I guess they randomly use different trunnions? They DO randomly use different ones, but there are a few things you can do: 1. Call your FFL dealer, and have him look in the rifle and tell you which one it has so you can order the right one 2. order both types from Dinzag, then send back the unneeded one once you look or 3. Buy a curved one. You can install a curved one in a flat trunnion gun if careful, but you cannot install a flat one in a curved trunnion gun. If you can, I recommend #1, that way you wi
  15. I'm not really on this forum to talk about my personal life, but i'll mention it once and move on...I play for a band called Locust Furnace And, the laser I have (not mounted right now) is a Beamshot GB 800M from a mil contract overrun...
  16. Why? My gun is perfectly legal here in this configuration. As long as I have the mag lock on it, and dont use mags over 10 rounds, its completely legal. And, state law since 2007 says the the state DOJ does NOT have the right to ever add any more guns to the ban list, so it can never be banned..the State Supreme Court upheld that years ago. A lot of folks dont know or think to research california gun laws, just parrot what they have 'heard' from someone else.... .Big 5 Sporting Goods is even selling IO Casar AK's here in Cali now.... You must be behind the times.... He's
  17. Glad you'll be ok, and when you start working on yer bike again, go to the XL Forum. www.xlforum.net Find the forum for your year bike, and lots of help on there. Lots of good folks on there to help you get it up again, or if it ends up not fixable, lots of folks to buy your parts should you decide to part it out. Heal up, and get back in the wind and shooting again... I know how it is, i had to lie my bike down to avoid hitting a tourist stopped in the middle of a blind curve taking a pic of a deer at 40 mph on my 75 XLH once, took 2 years to get bike and me back together....

  19. I took a lot of breaks, too, all in all, took about the same, 1 1/2 to 2 hours...
  20. just finished my first conversion

  21. Super rare items....I dont know why someone over there doesnt import them, the folks on this forum alone would scoop them up...
  22. just cut my shroud off yesterday on my march 09 7.62x39 and found THREADS!!
  23. Ive got an opposite problem on my x39. I dremeled off the shroud all the way back to the FSB, and bought an extra-deep FH from Dinzag, the Phantom type. My barrel was factory threaded, but not all the way back to the FSB. So, should I thread the rest, or just grind down the unthreaded area closest to the FSB, then thread on the FH and use red locktite? Or try to grind off he threads inside the FH on the inside closest to whee it goes to the FSB? I would like the look of it going all the way to the FSB if I can pull it off, and the threads inside the FH are deep enough...what
  24. Well, I did it. Wasnt that hard, I did have a few folks on here give me some last minute info that helped. I even got the BHO in...And found threads under the shroud...In the pic, I still have to paint my PRK Arms mag lock..(Cali legal stuff).. Thanks all who gave assistance...My next conversion will be a lot easier, I'm sure..
