  1. Well, after a long time of debating this and talking things over with many better shooters than my self, mostly a buddy of mine in the Corps, I've decided I'm definitely going to go with a magnified optic. Ideally, I'd like a TWS and a TA33 ACOG (you can use the sight hole from the old carry handle method as a peep on a TWS rail I found out,) but that is about $600 out of my budget at the moment, especially considering I have a family addition on the way and moving expenses to a larger place to make room. However it is tax time, and I should be getting back a fair amount to make that possible.
  2. I have a .223 that I converted a while back and I never figured out what I wanted to do for optics. It currently has a MI handguard on it so that opens up a few choices there alone. Mostly thinking about an Aimpoint C3 (I have easy access for a good price) or a PA micro. I've also considered getting a TWS rail and mounting a compact 3X scope on it like the Buris AR332. Ranges in my area only go to 200 yards max, so I'm not sure magnified optics would be ideal for me. I'm not the kind of guy who shoots his "combat style" rifles from a bench. Which would be most recommended and why?
  3. I go with Galil steels because A) they work very well for me, and they are date stamped when they were made on all the ones I have. Since I live in NY state that last part is VERY important to me. If I didn't have so many deep roots here and a pretty good paying and secure job, I'd be in VT by now. I'd also be in the poor house from all the tax stamps I'd get.
  4. Hexus, That sounds like a fun project. However I don't see the brake you are referring to in the .922r section or any of the muzzle attachment sections. The closest thing I found was the KR-PBS5 dummy suppressor under the flash hider section. I would have to get a new hand guard if I decided to go that route as I've been using the MI Saiga sized quad rail. It looks like the gas block mounts further back too, so I'd need to swap out my piston and gas tube too. Over all, I'd be spending what would be IMO too much when I could buy and convert another Saiga for about the same price it would cost m
  5. Thanks for the info guys. I just took a closer look at the flash hider that would go with it normally and it, and it is for 7.62. That should make it a bit easier, but I'm not seeing anyplace to pin it to the barrel on the pictures. The only possible place I'm seeing is on the top, and I really don't want to have to mess with that at all. Knowing my luck, I'd probably eat into the bore on accident or on the other (more likely) hand have the disk break and take out a finger/eye/etc while trying to make the cut out. I think I'll just go the Ace route and save my self some cash and work. I still
  6. I'm wondering if it will fit properly without too much work. I have a pretty limited amount of tools at my disposal, but I can be pretty crafty with the ones I have. The actual description from the sight: "Front sight block / gas block combination assembly, for compact rifles AK-100 series rifles (AK-102, AK-104, and AK-105). This is a genuine original Russian made part. Comes complete with the sight post, and all springs. This is designed to be used with part AK-134R, in order to achieve the correct look with the cutouts on the flash hider." I have no desire to use the flash hider or
  7. The new dog leg rail and the ultimak are nearly if not the same height. Get a handguard height front sight version of what ever set you like. I'd personally suggest a lower sitting pair for a good cheek weld.

    Sights

Ace has a front sight that clamps to the gas block, but you need to get the front sight post and and windage stud separately. Kavar has the russian fs/gb combo in stock, but I doubt it will be for long. You could then always get the barrel for the rear sight, or go with the TWS or Tech Sights options if you prefer a peep.
  9. I live in CNY and have a converted Saiga .223. I had a pinned tapco telescoping stock on it for a while with no trouble from the local fuzz. Just drill a hole in and put a screw/bolt and nut on the other side if you wanna do it the easy way. I have since switch to the Ace as that suits my needs better. I use preban steel Galil mags, and they are date stamped with the month and year of production. None are older than 83. I got them at the gun show last month. The last ones I got at the gun show (also Galil steel) don't have that so I leave them at home even though they were advertised as preban
  10. +1 for cobravenom39 Quick shipping, patient with questions and time frames. Would do business again.
  11. I also live in NY. I use an Ace skeleton stock. It recoils more straight back than when I had a pinned collapsible tapco. The comb comes up a touch more also. I have a spare riser if you do go that way and don't feel it goes high enough.
