  1. Or are they just another urban legend?
  2. Used a bit of emery cloth to smooth it down, and that did the trick. It chambers and ejects with no problem!
  3. You have a great dealer right up the road in Austin. This guy has great prices and does the weekend gun show circuit in Texas. I just place a call, and when he is in Houston he brings me what I need. PM me if you need his name. I grew up right down the road from the Powderhorn and have never been inside it. I'll take his name, sure. And as for the Powderhorn, you didn't miss a thing.
  4. Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way, but when I try to get up into the receiver with the file, I get nowhere.
  5. You could probably say you'd like to trade it in and pay the difference. Maybe you'll only have to pay $50-100 for the G23. I last saw one going for around $525. The Saiga x39s here are going for around $390-410.
  6. Well, the place is called The Powderhorn. Unfortunately they don't seem to have a website.
  7. If you're willing to go to one of the more rude gun stores in San Antonio where I live, you'd have about 4-5 different .223s to cherry pick from.
  8. Cabela's isn't selling the Tula anymore =[ Found 1000 rounds on the-armory.com for $229.99 without shipping. Most likely $240. Anyone heard of the-armory.com before? Any good?
  9. After looking at my Bulgy-74, I've decided to use it's bullet guide as a model for the wasr. It looks identical to the 103 Al posted. This gives me a physical object to refer to when I'm out doing this. But I have a chain saw file so I'll give it a try. Plenty of sand paper and emery cloth as well.
  10. I'll see if I can just file the right side down somehow, it does look too high. I'm not sure how I'll do on the left, but maybe I can come up with something. I'd rather try that way than pop it out only to have to worry about putting it back in.
  11. Ahh, I see what you're saying. I don't have my dremel right now, so I guess it'll have to wait.
  12. Will do Al, just give me a few.
  13. Okay guys, here you go. If you have anymore picture requests, don't hesitate to ask. The first two picture are obviously without a mag of any kind. The next for pictures are all taken with the 30-round mag. In the last of the 4 pictures with the 30-rounder, the bolt is completely forward, but it's slammed shut. Had to mallet that sucker out. The last two photos are with the 40-rounder. I would have posted more, but the function check on that one actually worked today. The dummy ejected right out.
  14. You got it! Like I said, in about a week or so it should be done. Shopping around for that color now.
  15. The mags are two surplus steel mags. Ones a 40 and the other is a 30. I'll post a few pictures of the inside of the receiver. I'll use my dummy Tula round since that's what I mostly shoot right now out of my rifles anyway.
  16. I was just doing a function check with some snap caps from numerous magazines. The bolt would either stop an half an inch before being completely forward, or it would go forward completely and get stuck causing me to have to remove the spring, and use a mallet to hammer it out. However, when I pull the magazine toward me as I chamber, it works. However, upon trying to eject the round, the bolt won't move beyond the magazine. It would appear that maybe as CAI they filed something down too much? Everything was perfect, but now I'm hit with this snag =[ Anyone else experience this? Edit: Here
  17. Let me be the second!! Happy fourth to everyone, hope you guys are staying safe out there.
  18. Yeah! I was so thrilled when I came across those two. I had no choice but to pull the trigger. I've already prepped the WASR for it's finish, which should get done in a week or so. I sanded down the current wood, made it actually feel smooth and look nice. I also took care of my bolt carrier, making it a nice shiny silver and giving it a healthy coat of oil for protection. Wow! If you were to just glance at it, you wouldn't even think to guess it's a WASR! I've gotta say, great job.
  19. Actually, I'm using the black laminate for my Saiga 7.62 when I finally get around to converting it. I was actually going to dress this up by staining the wood with a nice transparent blue sapphire color. Something a little out of the ordinary, but will still allow the wood grain to show through. I have high hopes, haha. As for the 74, it'll be my tacticool weapon that I'll dress up with all sorts of goodies
  20. Well, the gunshow today was a success. I found the perfect WASR-10, immaculate almost, nothing was canted, the wood sucked, granted, but even the finish was nice! One of mags wasn't there, so the seller gave me a 40-round east german mag instead of a 30!! All for $310! Awesome deal! I also found a Bulgarian-74 with the Nodak reciever, same excellent condition as the WASR for $335, which came with three 30-round mags. I can't complain at all.
  21. This is great info. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks again for the help! Not a problem, glad to help where I can.
  22. So the new ones are just as resilient as that little red guy from the video? Engine? Sure. Chassis, sure. Sheetmetal...maybe a little less. What will kill a new one is all the new wiring and that some more stuff is made of plastic. In the new market, it's hard to make an AWESOME vehicle for a normal vehicle's price. You and I want awesome vehicles to keep forever, but most of this country does not, since they do not want to pay extra. So, the cars/trucks are designed to last X miles or Y years with Z kinds/amount of use. And then, everything fails, and you scrap it. Well,
  23. Well, the Tula did the trick, just chambered and ejected 5 from each mag.
