  1. Haha, amen Chevy +1 for the laugh, made my day better. But I couldn't agree more, why hurt ourselves by firing someone who is revered by his subordinates??? We're our own worst enemy.
  2. Au contraire. Most of the current crop of 1911's I have had the chance to examine lately come with those shitty cheap-ass polymer mainspring housings in them. What's up with that crap? It's just like car bumpers being made with cheap "reinforced" plastic.
  3. I've got no issues with shooting it, it takes everything I give it. But there are those things on the gun itself that really make me dislike it.
  4. I've got a late 80s Pitbull, which seems to have been rated hit or miss by others over the years. I like the feel, got a custom Hogue grip on it too, but there are many things I dislike about it. The safety not only feels cheap, the thing is a PITA to switch between safe and fire. The disassembly is a nightmare. Unlike regular M1911s where you can remove the spring from the muzzle end of the gun by moving the bushing to the right, you have to the slide partially pulled back but not all the way, to remove the slide lock all while under tension from the spring. Removing the barrel from the slide
  5. I actually picked one up at the local gun store to see how it felt. I didn't like the feeling of it in my hand. The mag release was gritty just like you said, and pulling back the slide was damn near impossible.
  6. If only you lived across the country where I could drive up the road, I'd be all over that too. The FFL transfer fees in this town are ridiculous.
  7. If you think you can handle the kick, go for the S&W Model 60. Sure it's only got 5 rounds, but .357 125 grain SJHP rounds is the best man stopper. If the person you hit doesn't go down from that, then they're not human.
  8. Bingo, nickle plating seems more rugged and able to withstand the elements if need-be. With chrome, you'll spend more time polishing it up and keeping it rust free than actually firing your weapon. @GremM1: Forgot to multi-quote. Do you recall what you paid for having it plated?
  9. Yeah, I thought that mine was mis-assembled as well, but my only guess is there's some story behind this particular piece. The frame is '43, but according to the research I did, the barrel is from a '45 Colt. However, I can't conclude if the slide came with that barrel. Apparently during their production, the slides were painted before they could harden. This caused some discoloration (which you can see in some of my photos) around the muzzle of the gun. It appears slightly darker. This apparently happened between the production runs of 1942-45. sightm1911.com/1911Production.htm <--- Th
  10. Yeah, I don't care much for the reflectiveness of chrome. Reminds of cheap plastic swords that scratch when you smack them together. The nickle just looks extremely rugged and more fitting. Don't want my AK looking like a low-rider Escalade with spinning rims, hahahaha.
  11. Took this photo the same night, thought you guys would want to see. The barrel is also from a '45 Colt M1911, determined by the "C" imprinted in a square on one side of the lug. The frame as it turns out is Remington Rand. After looking with a magnifying glass, I finally discovered what was the remains of the Remington Rand emblem. The disconnector in this pistol has been worn down, so when you push the slide back from the front, along with the barrel, and pull the trigger, the weapon would discharge. That's the only fix I can see with this, I would like to restore it (orignal color can barely
  12. Very nice, I hope I can get a good as deal as you can on the Bulgarian 74 parts. I was originally looking at Romanian, but since you say these fit with no mods needed, I'll be considering this route instead. You said something about the HG ret. lock, what did you have to do for that?
  13. I've seen a few nickle plated 7.62 Saiga's around, and I think with the wood furniture it looks absolutely spectacular. I wouldn't mind doing that to mine when I convert it, but what's the cost associated with nickle plating, and what do you guys think of the concept altogether?
  14. Yeah, mine is a newer one, so I'll have to drill as you did. Where did you get those replacements? How much did you pay? How much time did it take for you to do that?
  15. I just put 50 boxes in my basket and it is on backorder. Make that 100 for me. Gonna get it while it's hot.
  16. Well, I'm not worried about the mismatch, if that is in fact what it is, I'm just having trouble telling what make the frame is. I shows signs of being Remington Rand, but lacks certain other details that others of the same age are shown to have. I just wanted to know if anyone else could have shed some light as to what it could be. Thank you much! =]
  17. Yeah, I'd have to agree with him, CRKT does make some exceptional folding knives. I saw one the other day that has the blade that's flush against the hilt of the knife, to prevent you from cutting yourself, but still makes the knife very thin and lightweight.
  18. Well, everything looks as though it fits. As with all '43s, the muzzle portion of the slide has some discoloration do to being finished before it actually hardened. The frame is definitely a '43, and so is slide, but it was my understanding that colt didn't manufacture in '43. It was Remington Rand, and then Ithaca took over for a period of time as well.
  19. It's not really a folding knife, but I'm looking to purchase and carry the Ka-Bar TDI Law Enforcement Serrated edge knife. It's on sale on amazon for $38. Not bad considering it's around $55 on the Ka-bar website.
  20. I'm not too sure, if I happened to have a throwaway, so-beat-up-it's-not-worth-keeping, rifle I'd probably give it a try. I wanna say Carolina Shooter Supply would be your best bet to take a look, I think I've seen one on there. Dunno if that's what you're looking for though. I can PM you the link if you'd like.
  21. Pics are up if you wanna see.

  22. Here they are! Enjoy ;] The real defining thing for a Remington Rand is the hammer.
