I was working on my Saiga the other day and noticed a little crack in my bolt carrier. Now after looking around for a replacement I run into a little dilemma. My question is, can a bolt carrier for 7.62x39 work for a Saiga .223? I have searched all over on websites looking for a replacement I started wondering if the bolt carrier is in fact the same on all Saiga rifles? If that would be the case it would be very easy to order one of those advertised as 7.62x39 carriers and buying a Tapco gas piston as a replacement.

Cut that aluminum piece up so it is not hitting my hand anymore, worked fine, just need to paint it black. Called SGM and e-mailed em about the collapsing stock issue and they are sending me a new spring. Hope that will solve but I do think the old spring is not rigid enough letting the lock go loose on the recoil. The recoil on my saiga though is less then on a SCAR .308, a guy had one at the range and was so impressed with the .Saiga that I think I got another one hooked.

If they pop out a drum, im game, would like two at least.

Yeah my forearm on this one is SGM quad rail, it weights around 2 pounds so I will be replacing it some day. Also the SGM buttstock connector piece is flawed as is since they didnt provide a replacement for the metal connector that sticks down from it. Chooped mine up so it wouldnt hit my hand when shooting but will never go for the SGM grips or butt stock again on my next rifles. Also the spring in the buttstock lock is to weak and kept getting loose when shooting making it collapse every round. I put a couple of washers into the hole where you put the spring in to push it more up to add tens

It is way heavier then the new ones and inconsistent. The sweet spot where the round goes of doesn't exist on the factory one. Also, just open your Saiga up and look at it. It goes like a banana way up front from the back and if you try move it around you will notice it wobbles to the sides. If you want a good trigger it needs to be stable.

I will toss it on a scale pretty soon for you boys but it sure doesn´t feel to heavy to me. Yeah also that is a scope extension. The range I use has the afternoon sun go down right in front of us so this comes in handy. this is a cheap scope again, do not have the budget yet to get what I want but recommend http://www.opticstalk.com/ or similar sites for those thinking about a scope for theirs. Stay shy of the known bad scopes like Barska and such. They really cant handle good a big caliber like the 308.

Here is the final outcome of my conversion. Been a while coming and got it done today. Started drilling the stuff after lunch and got done around midnight. Was a lot of fun. Saiga .308 SGM Muzzle flash hider, stock and fore grip. Surefire Mag. Tapco G2 trigger and hammer. Houge grip. Swapped out the gas piston, the hammer sprig as well. The scope is pretty cheap but does the job needed, plan on getting a pro one later on when I grow up and start making the big bucks. The grip is a G.P.S or Grip Pod System military grade. Fell in love with that when on vacation in the middle east.

Dunno if you guys have seen it but in the new Guns&Ammo magazine complete book of the AK 47 they head together the Saiga 308 vs. the PSL. Saiga stomped the PSL but what is interesting is the accuracy it is capable off in the hands of a pro. Easy 500 meter head shots and hitting steel target at 1000 yards and that with the 16" !?!?! A lot of times when I see folks post about the accuracy and some ranting about it it makes me wonder if they have proper or any training on shooting besides just aiming and pulling the trigger. I am using currently the POSP 3-9x42 from Kalinka and I do like it a lot. It is all a preference on what you like and how much magnification you want and what you plan on using it for. Honestly though I think a low magnification scopes do not do the rifle justice as it is a great rifle for both short,medium and long range shooting which is why I opted for a scope with a good zoom. I do plan on getting myself a 21" later on as well and will most likely put an even more powerful scope on that one with mil dots.

I do have both the SGM Quad rail and the SGM butt stock and pistol grip that do not require trigger moving and I love both, however I have learned to hate the factory trigger and last time I talked to the SGM manufacturer they told me they are coming out with a new piece for converted guns to attach their butt stock to with a pistol grip and trigger move. I am jumping on that, even though I am shooting tight groups with the factory trigger I just hate the heavy pull and think I would shoot way better with a better one in place. Hey Jett, how it all go for you?? I am pretty curious cause I also would rather not have to move up the pistol grip. With all the new grips available for Saigas without moving the trigger group you would think that one of those manufacturers would come up with a permanent solution, a US made special design or something. Maybe creativity in the gunsmithing business is just not at the same level as in other countries here. Boy am I glad for these forums, got me the G2 when I ordered the .308, went ahead today and ordered a new safety lever from CSS and not putting that G2 in until it arrives. I must agree that this issue sounds pretty severe and I am surprised that suppliers of both SAIGA and the G2 have not come with a permanent solution. If the vendors had a modified version of the G2 specifically made for the .308 or state it on their websites that you MUST switch out the safety lever if buying for a .308 it would save us a lot of time and possibly a innocent bystanders life at the range someday. Hey, I have a quick question for you guys, is it possible to get flash hiders that screw on the front for the 308??? Been thinking and would like something like that in place that would allow me to swap over to a silencer but don't know if it is possible. Would be cool to find out if anyone has done that before and how it worked.

One more different angle, got the SGM stock and pistol grip, SGM Rail on front, Surefire Mags and a UTG scope mount from CSS, still need to install my Tromix G2 trigger stuff and gaspiston I got from CSS as well. Got a Barsa tactical scope for the time being, would not recommend it for this rifle but waiting on my POSP that is on backorder and aiming to get me a SWF SS tactical later down the road. Well, they are cheapos that cannot be denied, I am going to try it out and see, although there are alot of bad reviews on them there seems to be a couple of them that get decent reviews and again considering where they come from and the cheapo price tag it might work for me as a starter kit. I have been shooting expert on up to 300+ Meters my whole career with ironsights so in worst case scenario I can always resolve to that until I can afford getting me a good one. Hey everyone, I just bought me a Saiga and bunch of parts that I am still waiting on recieving but wantet to throw out this question. I went for the BARSKA 1-3X30 IR, MULTI RAIL ELECTRO SIGHT AC11396as a sight for my future rifle and wanted to ask if anyone else has tried it for their rifle setup and how it came out??? I am posting a simple picture of it for now but will be following up on this topic and when I have finished setting mine up I will take pictures of it as well as the results from the range. Just wanted to see if anyone had done the same thing and how they liked it.
