  1. resurrecting an old thread but thought I'd throw this out just in case someone else is looking for a replacement front sling stud to replace the crap that comes with the Saiga. I purchased an ATI swivel stud from amazon and it is a direct replacement. All I did was add a little blue loctite. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Q0BC92/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Finally Converted

After a year and a half finally converted Saiga 7.62 probably going to do more in the future.
  4. finally got around to buying the conversion kit after a year and a half. took about 3 hours with painting. unfortunately my mags have yet to come in but that will be the only thing that changes for awhile. need to save up more money before i do anything else but i've got some ideas.
  5. I was reading somewhere on the forum that while the guy was venting the handguard he also placed a piece of tin or aluminum (i think) inside the handguard to help with cooling. If I recall it was from a a/c vent pipe or something. He also did just holes like I dunno 3/8 holes instead of oblong/elliptical shaped slots like what I've seen on here granted I think the pictures on here look cooler I would think just drilling 5 or 6 holes would be far simpler work. If I find that post again I'll make a link here.
  6. Figured I could show up my dimples and x and y, I don't really think I would care either way I'm just happy to have my Saiga and am looking forward to converting it. But hey it's pretty cool that it came this way. I have no idea how you all can tell if it's threaded though.
  7. Just wondering if you've finished your conversion and what it looks like. I'm waiting on my 7.62 to show up and I'll be doing my first conversion hopefully by the end of the year. Gonna buy parts as I get money and my wife required me to buy a gun safe asap for me to talk her into letting me get the gun. Gotta love women.... I'd love to see what yours ended up looking like though!
  8. I'm like many of the others riding the fence. One of the big reasons I like the Saiga is I don't think even stock it really looks like an ak-47. I've never really liked the wood look and the "over-under" front handguard (the two seperate pieces). But I also am unlikely to get rails on my Saiga (waiting on FFL holder to get it brought in).
  9. Yep so the stock I linked to is no longer there as of the day after I linked it LOL! I emailed the company same day I made post asking questions about it and they informed me it's no longer manufactured. Oh well, next option....
  10. Hey man I was wondering what stock you used for this build? I've been looking for a dragunov style stock for the 7.62 I just ordered and the one I found the company just told me they are no longer stocking because the manuf. randomly stopped shipping to them, what luck right!
  11. That is correct though you'll have it'll up your parts count to 15 on the rifle and 2 of those will be imported. The stock I linked to actually is a US part. Granted it also costs half what I paid for my rifle.... I can't tell if it would be useable with the trigger moved forward on the rifle like is done on conversions.
  12. This is the style I'm going for with my 7.62 Saiga, I found this stock at centerfire: http://www.centerfiresystems.com/saigaextendablestock.aspx That is correct though you'll have it'll up your parts count to 15 on the rifle and 2 of those will be imported. I like the fact that this is an adjustable stock whereas all the other dragunov style stocks I have found are a set length and I'm concerned they won't fit me well.
  13. I really, really appreciate your info! I'm beginning to lean that way as well as I've been reading basically all day about 922r and the conversion. You have no idea how much your info has helped me to understand 922r. Thanks again.
  14. I'm assuming the Saiga-manufactured it comes equipped that way from the seller I plan on buying it from. http://www.hyattguns...6.3-barrel.html
  15. That makes complete sense then. I've read that the stock trigger with the dragunov skeletonized is pretty pitiful. If I were to only change that would that affect compliance?
  16. Unfortunately, it does not. The revenuers have decreed that if the pistol grip attaches directly to the receiver, it's a countable part.. Ok, this makes more sense now about the parts count. I believe I'm understanding that. Where did you hear this? No Saiga is imported with any US parts. If they are not imported with any US parts then how are gun stores able to sell them? Or is it just that they're considered sport rifles until the point you begin to modify them and that's when you have to meet the 10 piece US parts because they become assault rifles? I apologize
  17. I've been searching for this specific info for awhile. I kept seeing people commenting on saiga 7.62x39 that after someone added a 20rd+ mag that it was no longer 922r compliant. So I finally understand why. Anyway I have a couple questions if others with more knowledge don't mind helping. I'm very interested in a Saiga 7.62x39 with a Dragunov Skeletonized buttstock/pistol grip which I understand drops the parts to 13?, maybe, since it's considered thumbhole. I would like to do some modifications like placing a 20rd possibly 30rd mag on it. And probably a rail for a scope. I'm wondering
