  1. Thanks for the feedback. I bought 4 of them and tried them today shooting trap and they all fit my S12 without any fitting or filing and they worked great.
  2. That's not normal. Is the Shepard's crook installed & pins in place? The shepherd's crook has nothing to do with "swinging down near vertical", but I'll bet someone forgot to re-install their safety stop. Hmmm.... Shepards crook and pins are all installed per the CSS video (watched it more than once too). I didnt even look at the original trigger guard, and that's where it is--however I installed CSS' AR15 trigger guard/grip mount and it doesnt have anything of the sort. I'll call CSS about it in the morning. Looking at it again, if I could get a trigger pivot pin that wa
  3. Made the conversion on my S12 last night. Noticed afterward that the safety lever now swings down near vertical. I have yet to see if it will wander that way while shooting, but I'm not a fan of the possibility. Did I forget something when putting everything back together, or is there a simple fix?
  4. I saw that--looks cleaner, but how well does the setscrew hold the sight post in place? I'm leery about how durably it will stay in place/not lose its zero. I also wonder about how you align it--put it on, make some index marks, and zero it in on the range, then clamp it down, if I had to guess?

I've got a vented polychoke on mine and I like it. While it doesn't look real fancy, it made a noticable difference in recoil, and it's actually useful for hunting/sporting clays/trap/etc. Be aware that it adds about 3" to the barrel length, so now my 24" S12 looks like a piece of field artillery. Also, I've heard elsewhere on this forum that adding a choke (such as the polychoke) helps finicky S12s cycle low powered loads. LOL
  6. I think that's the way to go; I think it would alleviate any forearm interference issues--Not so much a problem on the 12-rounders as the 20-rounders.
  7. I've got a Promag 12 round drum--I like it. The shells do rattle a bit, but I wonder if that might not be remedied by adding some felt inside the drum between the follower gear and the case heads or something. While the 12-rounder is quite compact (and not terribly heavy), it tends to interfere with my left forearm (I'm a righty) when holding the forearm of the shotgun. This may be remedied by using a bottom pic rail with a vertical handgrip, but I don't have one of those to comment on that. So right now, without doing anything to the forearm of the shotgun, the 12 round drum is a wee bit
  8. Was searching for magazines for my S12 and Google found me this link to some 5-rounders at keepshooting.com. At first I thought these were factory mags, but a closer look at the "larger" picture looks like its got a different base plate. Speaking to a sales rep they are direct copies of the 3rd gen factory magazines, that they will handle 2-3/4" and 3" shells, and that he hasn't had any problems in his gun (whatever that comment is worth). Reading lower in the description it says that these magazines do not count for 922® compliance. Does anybody have any experience with these? I'm wan
  9. The stock fixed sight on my S12 are really dinky and I'd like to get a longer sight radius for shooting trap. Problem is, they seem to be hard to find and I'm leery about how they mount. Does anybody have any experience with any of the elevated front sights out there? The part thats for sale on this site has been out of stock for several weeks. Krebs Custom has one is stock, but I'm not sure that I really want the front sight ears if I'm going to be shooting trap (although it wouldnt be hard to remove them). Also I dont want a "combo" unit that has the integral muzzle brake because I've got a
  10. FWIW. I will add that my 24" S12 would Fail to Extract (spent shell only made it halfway out the ejection port before getting pinched) a few times per round of trap until I put 200 rounds through it. Last time I was at the range, I put 76 rounds through it and did not have any FTEs--all cases were using Federal valuepak 2-3/4" x 1.125 oz #7.5 shot from WalMart. My S12 is still 100% stock, has a 24" barrel, only 2 gas ports, and I put a poly choke on it set for IC. Have yet to do any polishing of the guts beyond greasing up the wear points and adding dry lube to various spots.
  11. According to a scan of a letter from BATFE that I found on gunwiki (page 1, page 2), attaching a magazine of greater than 5 round capacity would take it out of the "Sporting" category and be in violation of 922®.
  12. Does anybody know what the port size spec is for the 24" barrel IZ-107's? Feeling around with a bent paperclip (.050" wire) I found 2 holes with a fair bit of play (I'd guess around .070" holes?) and looking down the barrel I think I see only 2 holes. I shot Walmart Federal bulk pack the first time out with it (today) and had maybe a dozen stovepipes out of 100 rounds (it may have been only half a dozen), but I had not done any pre-shooting break-in or prep work to slick up the action
  13. Does anybody know if any of the front sight post add-ons for the S12 have a bayonet lug? Or are there some legal issues there?
  14. Some ideas looking at this; Since you have access to the college machine shop, you could: Machine yourself a new gas plug that would vent the gas system gases forward and up (ie. make an extended plug that would dump the gases forward and up, to keep them off your left hand and also work like a compensator)--that would keep your threads clean, neuter the action, and might even help your accuracy. Fabricate a simple sheet metal deflector and rivet to the top of the action cover to knock the ejected hulls downward. I just brought home my 24" S12 from the dealer friday and shot it at trap t
