  1. Hahahaha, that's my photo. 5.56 by David Pyzik, on Flickr The lower pic gives me chub. Can't explain it, just does. Thanks!.... I think....
  2. The stock is comfortable and light, but looks ugly. The forearm looks good and is comfortable but is heavy. Haha
  3. Just got the Zhukov handguard yesterday and unlike the stock, it's heavy. I was on the fence between going ultimak or side mount for an optic (or good railed top cover) and now that the zhukov is installed there is no way I am putting an optic out there too. Anyone have a pic of the Zhukov stock with a cheek riser in the open position? Folded by David Pyzik, on Flickr
  4. Can't wait to chop the barrel. Magphucked by David Pyzik, on Flickr
  5. The stock is really light. The handguard is heavier. I've read more than a few have put it on .308s & x54rs with no issues. A couple guys have put them on 12s.
  6. I just deleted mine and.... Hold on there is someone at the door.
  7. Just ordered an el cheapo the point sling that closest matched what I've seen on these 'Contrator' WASRs.
  8. Took this shot while I had it out cleaning. I should have taken a shot of the my .223's BCG with it but didn't think about it at the time. Again, tooling marks are not exactly a quality issue if the rifle functions fine. Just something noticed. Parts by David Pyzik, on Flickr WASR Wear by David Pyzik, on Flickr

  10. It's got nothing to do with looks. Just overall feel and what I've found handling the two. Again, I am not complaining and I have no doubt it will run perfectly. I'm grabbing some ammo this weekend and will be hitting the range. I didn't want a pretty rifle, just the opposite. And, as far as my Saiga goes I don't try to baby it either.
  11. Mine is an 80s era rebuild. I'm glad I got a rebuild and not a new one.
  12. Okay, I am going to start with a very obvious statement. The quality between a Saiga and a WASR is startling. Not exactly in a bad way, it makes me regard my Saiga in a bit higher degree. Even though this is one of the first gun forums I'd ever joined (2006) I've only had one AK and only shot one other one. I never bought into the "broad side of a barn" nonsense talk of the AK but I also didn't really rank it along side say an AR. After picking up this WASR (and I am not knocking it) it really makes me appreciate my Saiga. I'd kind of always felt "an AK is an AK". Just an observation an

  14. Yup. These were purchased here in the US from Century by SOC (922r compliant) then shipped over and supplied to the "contractors" then sold back to highest bidder (Atlantic) for commercial sale. I wondered the same. Would a milsurp brake have fared better? It's the only rusty part of the gun other than some very light rusting in other common areas (gas block at gas tube, crevices at rear sight block, ect.). I just did a field strip and cleaned up what I could reach with a rag and my fingers. She was dirty!
  15. Some rust, some copper fouling that has turned blue/green. One of my ARs. You can see the copper fouling here too (though very low round count on this one). I like the look so I leave it unless it gets real bad. Oakleys2.1 by David Pyzik, on Flickr
  16. Well, I picked mine up yesterday. I'll admit I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping for more external wear but I guess I'll be the one to make that happen. Lotta guys are reporting theirs weren't shot much if at all. Mine definitely has been shot. Haha. Guys are saying there were the carried guns and weren't shot much then there were the range guns (which mine may be I guess). Sight is slightly canted but it's sighted in. Trigger feels alright. Numbers match. It was still cheaper than new and came with a story so I'm happy in the end. Phone pics. Real camera is at the house
  17. Nah, most know I'm a gun nut here anyway.like Mancat, this is a fellow contractor. I'm pretty open about it.
  18. I have my Saiga as my current background on my computer. This photo to be exact: Saiga by David Pyzik, on Flickr He came into the office and I didn't have any windows up. He says "ah, .223?" I was surprised. Turns out he lives just a mile or two from me as well. Just thought I'd share. That's the second time I've been surprised by a co-worker. At my last job I had just an AR bolt as my background, thinking I was being "low key". Coworker says "AR bolt, you into guns?". Haha. Turns out he's a big milsurp collector.
  19. And here I was beginning to think I was the only one that understood the difference.
  20. So did you get it done and if so who did it? Not yet. Still need to order the handguard too. Picked up a WASR so thats where my money went currently.
  21. Well when you put it like that I *almost* feel bad for ordering one yesterday. I've been wanting a "traditional" looking AK for a while now and had planned on BFPUing it anyway. The way I look at it, they saved me time and money doing it myself.
