  1. true I think on the bear thread in here apparently some eskimo girl killed a gizzly with a 22, no bullshit. Best damn shot in the world. do a google search.
  2. Well somebody needs some midol, seriously though that cop and his partner are going to get themselves shot one day, they never even checked the driver at all, until they asked him to step out of the car. Every traffic stop that I have been apart of the officer asks to generally see the driver first. What a moron. They are lucky that was a law abiding citizen and not a felon with a warrant.
  3. I understand that but I figure if you can shoot standing or crouching then I should be able to shoot prone as well. Chances are in a shtf situation where I live your not going to have much time to shoot prone. You would need to be getting the hell out of dodge. I will probably practice some of this once I get a little farther along
  4. I have put about 500 rounds through my converted 7.62 so far and have yet to even try out past 50m, I figure getting good at a short distance with it is much better than starting off at a long distance and shooting from a bench. I am working up to being able to put all my rounds through a 2x4 flashcard then I will move up to 100 and go the same route, practice makes perfect. I have yet to get a pistol but I plan on getting a ruger sr9 in the next few months, thinking about the sr9c for carry purposes, the pistol most definitely has the most practical use in a shtf scenario because whether it i
  5. I left mine about a 1/16 of an inch of the fsb, I wanted to be able to index my flash hider and muzzle brake with crush washers, cut it however far you want and get some crushwashers to fill in any gaps you may have. flash hiders tend to be shorter threads than the muzzle brakes do.
  6. I hike mt. Leconte or mt. Mitchell every 2 years or so, I have been to linville gorge which in early spring is black bear infested as well as rattle snakes. I got tired of worrying about the wildlife during the spring, so I went in the late winter in in 2010, no wildlife but the damn snow base was about 4 ft. So we were postholing everywhere we went and it was about 10 at night and just above freezing during the day.learned an intresting fact though aoparently black bears can run just as fast uphill as they can on a flat surface. Really wish I could take a sidearm next time.
  7. actually on the seat loaded in plain view is ok in nc, or in a holster on your hip over your shirt is considered ok and not concealed, depending on the officer, a tactical thigh holster would be as well but that is sending a whole different message to the cops. If you conceal it in a car and do not have a permit then yes you have to keep gun in trunk preferably with cable lock in it, mags in the glovebox.I have read several forums where people have been stopped while oc either with the gun on the seat in plain view or on your hip, as long as you stay calm and put your hands on the wheel, and te
  8. whatever you have trained with should be fine. ak for me simply because if it came down to engaging targets that would be my job, with my old lady running hd with my 12 ga. pump, I would probably have the 9mm on my side as well in case I run out. Now leaving the house to head for safer pastures I would have every gun I own locked and loaded in my car which the last time I checked only took me 3 minutes. It all depends on the situation, my scenario would be alot different from say living in the country.but a good semi-auto rifle is always the way to go when out in the open, pistols are just
  9. true I understand that, but then again if noone did it then they might take that right away, so I can see the appeal for people wanting to OC here in nc, there is actually quite a few groups around here that open carry, in fact most gun shops I go to at least two people have sidearms in the open. I would also think having a gun out like that would definitely heighten your sense of surroundings and individuals around you, you never know some dumb kid might think it is funny to grab it out of the holster, so I understand being a target, however in a self defense scenario I would think tactically
  10. I would like to carry everywhere but I also run into a lot of people that are tenants in buildings I manage as well as my fiancees family, so concealed would be great for that purpose. The funny part is alot of her family are anti-gun until recently when her cousins house was broken into during broad daylight while they were not at home thank god, lets say they sing a different tune now. I just think it is one of those things if enough people dont do it we may somehow lose that right all together. Can you carry loaded or is it like commifornia where the gun and mags must be separate. If so tha
  11. thanks for the reply k.t., where do you hike, since I am in nc I like to hike mt. mitchell or leconte every few years with a buddy of mine.
  12. I understand why carry in a few places when you can carry just about anywhere, well it is hot as balls here so truthfully open would be more comfortable than having to wear something over the gun. Secondly why would you assume that because I am not interested in concealed carry at the moment I am not interested in my own personal safety. There are some places I feel I do not need to carry a handgun and some places that I feel a handgun is not a bad idea. It is not about me showing off or trying to be a badass. Unfortunately in north carolina there is statute called " going armed to the terror
  13. thanks for the clear up joe, I would call the police if I saw someone walking down the road with an ak-47 in hand, either because some shit is going down with him or around him to be brandishing a firearm of any kind. Now if he is walking with it on his back then I know he or she is excercising there right to open carry there rifle. Haha an m60 that would be a sight that would scare the sheeple. have you ever open carried that bad boy.
  14. have not found anything on the net as far as open carry on long guns in michigan, I would have to assume that the weapon has to be on a sling over your back and without a round chambered at least if not without the mag in the weapon.
  15. It is lawful to open carry an ak in public as long as it is not loaded is my interpretation as well as you cannot be walking down the street with rifle or pistol in your hands then you are considered a threat and in use of a weapon in public. On his back without the mag in it is ok in my opinion or even loaded on your back if it is legal, but in your hands ready to go just walking down the street is a whole new ball game. Thus it is ok if I see one on someones back walking around, hence if I saw someone walking with mag loaded and rifle in hand it seems dangerous as well as suspicous. You did
  16. This guy is a patriot in the highest since, it is easy to say " the hell with it I will just roll over and take it." this guy took a stand for what he believes in, This is an informed american who is aware of his 2nd amendment rights and is in know way violating the law or trying to terrorize the public. I can understand why he got snippy with the cops, they have a bad habit of sychronizing there questions to try and get yourself in trouble with what you say i.e. "are you trying to make a point." that is just cop talk for are you protesting. The guy had all the right responses to the LEO's que
  17. nice kill and excellent weapon, for me shtf is my ak and a 9mm as back up, I would use 9mm because it is widely available, cheaper to stockpile on a budget and probably more valuable in a barter situation, It has plenty of stopping power or penetration with the right load. It is just a good all around caliber. For a pistol whatever it is pick one and stick with it and learn how to use it, it does not matter if it is a 22 if you can shoot straight into someones eyeball from 15 yards on the draw and cant hit shit with a 45 then shoot the 22. Shot placement takes stopping power and mag capacity
  18. pink is for saving some good ole boobs, your a homophobic closet case if you dont like the color pink. Part of being a man is being comfortable with your sexuality.
  19. I am planning on picking up a ruger sr9 around thanksgiving as my first semi-auto pistol, I was brought up on revolvers,357 and 38 special. I dont really want to go through the concealed carry process as I am not going to take it anywhere other than to the shooting range, wal-mart before the shooting range and maybe to the grocery store. I already know the legality of the whole thing and realize someone could call the police and result in "going armed to the terror of the public". I just wanted to hear anyones opinions or experiences with it and where you live.
  20. he is right up from crossroads ford in wake forest, he does have a small white sign up that says force recon military surplus. it is off of circle drive and is a house right on highway.
  21. Yea south on us1 right up from the old dmv building. no I don't think so he just has a small shop out of the back of his house
  22. I was out today putting up a sign at a property we have out there and noticed a small military surplus store off the highway and decided to stop to see if the guy had any ammo cans. Cool little shop with some ar-15 and ak-47 slings, magazines, stocks even handguards and stuff and got to talking to the guy and found out he has an egyptian ak-47 he bought back in 94 for 179.00 plus he got a rpk sight for 10 bucks extra mags and 900 rounds of ammuniton and some other stuff for 400 dollars including the rifle with a 75 round drum. Man I wish I was born 10 years earlier could have saved a lot of mone
  23. 1. your assumptions are correct as for uses, hollow point I have heard with many brands except for wolf military classic do not expand like they are supposed too, soft points are good for hunting because of the yaw effect created by the soft nose as it enters tissue and probably not destroying as much meet, fmj is just for when you need maximum penetration but on a soft target will generally not yaw unless it is like the boat tail design of the golden tiger fmj. Some of this may be a little off but this is my understanding of each bullet type as far as I know. 2. Any round in this situatio
  24. you have the hammer spring in wrong, it is very easy to do I did mine wrong twice on my conversion before I had it set up properly. it would grab and release the hammer once but the tension on the trigger was not enough to reset it. Or you could have a little contact on the front of the trigger if it feels like it is hard to reset then it is contacting part of the trigger as it is coming through the reciever. I also had to file the front of the trigger inside the reciever as it would touch just slightly as it would rotate forward when I pulled the trigger.
