  1. I'm all about CSS. Ordered from them mags/parts/etc. Even did some returns with no problem. Look on their Saiga 12 conversion section, they don't have the kits setup for you, but all the parts are there. They even list what you need to make a full kit. Here is my advice, I literally just converted my Saiga 12 two days ago without much issue. If you order the Carolina Shooter Supply Trigger guard, you DO NOT need the AK 47 pistol grip nut. The CSS Trigger Guard has the nut built in. Just follow the directions on their site. Buy the grip, stock, Trigger assembly, Trigger Guard, hole plug
  2. I'll definitely look up the dental floss method. The biggest problem was that my needle nosed pliers were way too fat. I Used a bunch of my dads old tools and there was a pretty poor selection. I had to de-rust the smallest of the pliers, but it was still too fat to fit in there properly. I did the epitome of "kitchen gunsmithing", Some of the drilling and all the assembly was done on the kitchen table. My drill tool had it's wire duct tape to cover up frays. Besides a drill, the only thing needed for this conversion was a vice like grip. I used this old school decaying wooden vice/saw ta
  3. Ha. I think I'll just forget the BHO for now. I spent 30 minutes messing with the safety and realized I just needed to put a little more thumb into it and the safety didn't feel that unnatural. My general laziness is convincing me that the BHO is not worth the trouble. Maybe in a week or two I'll get the balls to mess with the BHO again. I will definitely try your method when I give it another shot. I just don't know what went wrong while I was installing the safety. It was very stiff and I couldn't get the safety to install and lock in. While I was messing with it to seat properly the spr
  4. It seems like most go for iron sights. My questions is, stock sights, or the seemingly more popular HK sights?
  5. When I saw those I thought it was just a half-assed saiga conversion. Seems almost the same? The Chinese sure like copying Russian weaponry. All I want is cheap chinese ammo.... (although SKS's are fun)
  6. Hey guys how's it going? So, I finally ordered all my parts from CSS and drilled out the rivets, installed the new trigger group, installed the pistol grip, ETC. Everything went pretty damn good except for the obvious problem... I just had no luck with the BHO. I ordered the "modified BHO" which was apparently easier to install. I managed to get it set up ONE time, but while I was putting the safety in, the spring came loose and I had enough of that. I think I need a smaller pair of needle nose pliers. My question is this: I decided to save the modified BHO for another day. Forget it,
  7. I guess the Russians have trouble drilling the ports because they are drunk and/or don't care. Hence the term "Vodka special".
  8. Ha thanks man. I'm going for the Vepr then at this point then. The AMD65 will likely stay in the 500 dollar range a lot longer and i'll pick it up later down the road. Did you keep your Vepr stock? They look so nice I'm not even sure if I'd want to get rid of the furniture.
  9. Damn that looks awesome. Where did you order it from? I'm looking at Centerfire Systems and the close up photo does not look like it has a threaded barrel, whereas the integrated sight model clearly has a muzzle cap. I guess I could call them up @TheDarkHorse and King of the Hill: I was 99% sure on the AMD 65 until the prices hiked up yesterday. Alright so it looks like I've narrowed it down to the Vepr 5.45 or AMD-65. Maaaaaan I want both! I guess the real question is, which one is more likely to go up in price? The AMD-65 just went up 20-60 dollars on the sites I checked, so I assume
  10. Gunbroker is the only place I could find, but I've never dealt with an auction site before. I'd rather not, but maybe my apprehension is unwarranted. (EDIT: just checked GB, Saiga IZ240's are 425 doesn't seem worth it) @Captain Hero: The other dilemma with the Vepr is the two models: integrated sights with a threaded barrel, or RPK style windage adjustable sights without a threaded barrel? I should just flip a coin at this point haha. @Bulldog_Shotgun: I don't know If I'd trust a gun I built myself. I'm not that mechanically inclined. The way prices are going though I will probably lo
  11. MD-20 all day. Really makes the Saiga-12 shine.
  12. I'm in the market for a new gun in the 500 dollar range and I just really can't decide on one. The thing is, the longer I wait the more likely it is that these will turn into 525 dollar guns, and then 550, 575, 600, etc... This will be my first centerfire rifle. Here goes: AMD-65 (7.62x39) for 459 shipped. Vepr in 5.45x39 for 500 + 15 shipping. Wait around for a Saiga IZ-240 (5.45x39) for 379-400. WASR-10 for 500 + 15 shipping. WASR 10 seems like the worst deal, doesn't really have anything going for it except that it's the closest to a standard AKM. The AMD-65 really has me i
  13. Oh nice, good find. I guess I should've been more specific in that I'm looking for the cheapie model, IZ240. I will definitely consider this though. EDIT: @ Grimm100: I hope that is true! Always such good info on this website.
  14. I agree 100%. Even with having to convert, at least in the end you have it the way you want it.
  15. The only place I found it besides Gunbroker just sold out. I don't really want to deal with an auction website. Was planning on getting one for around Christmas time. Not really sure what to do at this point. Vepr's look interesting, but a conversion seems like more of a hassle. I'm itching for a 5.45 rifle. Should more of these come into the country after the new year?
  16. I saw that too... mainly because it was what I had my eye on. I honestly don't get the pricing on AK-type rifles. 500 dollars for a WASR, AMD 65, or a VEPR? Am I the only one who thinks the VEPR is the only logical choice for that price?
  17. Awesome review. Man I wish I waited and bought one of these...
  18. Haha that one is badass... who wouldn't vote for someone like that?
  19. I voted, feel the same way. I hope gun/ammo prices don't skyrocket... I had some purchases planned.
  20. Very interesting stock, haven't seen that before. That's the great thing about Saiga's, you get to make it your own.
  21. Thanks for taking the time to make an account and give me feedback. I will probably not do a full "D-mod", as the ports are not completely blocked. Just going to file out enough to expose them and hope for the best.
  22. So you noticed a big improvement in performance after doing the "D-mod" ? Thanks for your words and advice, can't wait to get this thing running right. Hopefully I don't do more damage than good.
  23. Not yet, which is what I'm trying to work the kinks out for. However, I bought it dressed up in Tapco T6 intrafuse set-up. Speaking of which... I see you have some for sale, can the stock be used in conversions? You can but with all the options out there you will end up doing something else.I am never going to sell those stocks, lol. That is one of those purchases you look back on......slowly walk into the bathroom........look in the mirror.........slap yourself and say"YOU IDIOT"!!!! Hahaha, yeah, I feel you man. You don't even wanna know what I paid for this, and I still have to do
