  1. that would be great if you can show the results of the brown bear hp and if you can get the SB soft points to shoot at water jugs to see which one causes more destruction. I will post a video and show the results. I am still skeptical that BB will expand or fragment any more violently than the Military Classic. The MC uses a 8M3 bullet which has a long reputation of being the most destructive among Russian steel case imported ammo. The double tap was the first I seen to explode a water medium even more violently than MC. Its going to be fun to see either way.
  2. I did some water juggs shooting a while back with FMJ, Wolf HP, Military Classic HP, and Double Tap vmax ammo. If it does not rain this weekend, I might shoot some Brown Bear into juggs next to MC, DT, and Corbon SP, and do another video of juggs exploding. Its about time to do my 100 yard target video too.
  3. 99% of the people that I seen start out with the adapter stock always end up doing a real conversion. Lots of buyer remorse. Why spend more on tapco mags when you can get real military steel surplus mags for less than $10 each? This same situation has come up too many times on this forum and most everyone will tell you to do a conversion and forget trying to bypass it with expensive alternatives. I assume since your asking for opinions that you want honest info and the only advice I can honestly give is grab a drill and a file and give your rifle a real makeover.
  4. The one on carolina shooters supply does not have the curved lip just as dinzags does not either.
  5. Here is the difference shown. Curved lip is for this style
  6. Any handguard with the steel tabs sticking forward is meant to be used on the newer design retainers that have a curved upper lip to prevent the handguard from actually contacting the barrel. The kvar arsenal handguards are a prime example of this. The handguard in that link has the steel tabs. The heat shield is not meant to press against the barrel. In doing so, it complicates the barrel vibrations/harmonics and makes for a less accurate gun, and the heat shield no longer serves as a shield because it functions as a heat sink. Bad combo unless you have the newer type retainer like the sa
  7. Unfortunately, the magazine latch on the gun should be filed but instead the magazine itself is filed . You can fix that by filing off just enough to allow a regular surplus military mag to lock in. The mag you are showing has been molested and the feed angle is not lined up right. Simple fix is get a different mag and don't file the mag only file the gun latch. is that closest to the brrel or closest to the mag release lever? The circled part is the upper mag latch that contacts the underside of the rear magazine stub. The mag latch is at the rear of the mag well. Filing
  8. I had a pond muck covered AK work perfect when one of my formerly owned AR15s failed me because the same muck caused it to not cycle. I never looked back since. Congrats
  9. You could use the pin punch in your tool kit to remove the firing pin retainer pin which will allow the firing pin to be removed. Cycling it fast with the firing pin removed should not set off a primer. Or, just wait until you make it to a range.
  10. Ok,if I am understanding this right from the pictures and what you explained earlier, the right side appears like it does not feed high enough but the left side looks like it does. Is this correct?

  12. That might be your problem. You need a magazine and not a clip. Clips don't work in AK rifles. LOL This is a clip
  13. That is not a bullet guide function or malfunction. A double feed like what you are describing is related to the magazine itself. The only two things within the magazine itself that could have any bearing on a double feed are the follower and the feed lips. Are the feed lips straight on the magazine (compare them to another magazine)?
  14. Yep, its been 12 years since the ready to use high capacity guns were allowed through customs. Damm clinton had to shut that off.
  15. Different tools for different tasks. An aimpoint is about perfect for close range fast target aquisition in regular light or low low light. In low light, most any post sight is going to blurr badly without some contrasting feature like a tritium source. At night, regular iron sights become pretty much useless.
  16. Better iron sights will also improve your accuracy. I been working on trying to mod a mojo peep sight. I got a front sight post narrowed to 0.020 compared to the factory one 0.080. Now I am trying to work on glueing some fine width wire in the peep tube to make a convergence of 3 lines. The tip of the post would line up at the intersection and this would provide a good mark to always return to for better sight alignment.
  17. Sometimes a few changes can really surprise common perception. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=49270&st=0&p=458190&fromsearch=1entry458190
  18. very soon...it's my very next thing to do to it...probably within weeks...And I'll go a LOT slower to avoid potential "oops' like the BG drilling..and refer back here constantly while I do convert it..The expertise on this forum is invaluable to a noob like me... If you ever need to drill the trunnion on another one, you can crazy glue the bullet guide in place before you do and this helps to check for bolt clearance. Then allow the guide to serve as a drill bit guide as you drill through the screw hole into the trunnion. Crazy glue is easy enough to remove with acetone.
  19. I seen a professional gunsmith and 6PPC tournament champ show me how quick heat distorts the barrel bore and vertical stringing. He took a big ass 2 inch wide barreled bench bolt action and shot .30-06 through it 10 times. The group stayed inside of an inch perfectly thats with shots fired 10 seconds apart at 100 yards. Then he picked up a .30-06 sporter barreled bolt gun with a typical narrow contour. He shot 10 shots spaced 10 seconds apart each. The first two shots were fairly close together then the 3rd shot started to deviate away then the rest started stringing vertically into a wide g
  20. Did the two higher holes on top appear as shots 4 and 5?

Where is the trust??? Yes it was 100 yards. But it was fired from the bench, with the rifle supported by sand bags and the mag. With a 4.5X scope and taking my time. The way the range is laid out, there is no crosswind in the 100 yard area so it was fairly calm. I was excited a few weeks ago, when I shot a sub 2.5 MOA, 6 round group, using iron sights and shooting Brown Bear HPs. The rifle was supported by one bench rest. I supposed that using a scope, high quality brass ammo, and more solid support, I could maybe do 1.75 MOA, but 1 MOA seemed ridiculous. I mean, I've ran into some

Did you use commercial loaded cartridges or handloaded yourself? If commercial, which type?
  24. I too often read that people are breaking taps and ending up rather frustrated. I have hand drilled several trunnions and have not broken a tap yet. What did I do? I dropped 3 drops of gun oil into the hole. Then I wiped the hole with a cotton Q-tip to soak up the steel particles. Then I dropped another 3 drops of oil into the hole. I slowly turn the tap until I start to feel tension. I use very short 1/16 turns in and then back out. Doing slow 1/16th turns and backing outhas kept threading tension from breaking the tap. I have managed to thread a complete hole in three minutes. You simply h
  25. It works. Just do not over tighten the bolt. Tapco let me know they would gladly replace my retainer with a new bolt. I'm not sure I even want to bother to send it back. I like the fusion handguard better.
