  1. I am thinking about installing lower hand guard retainer on my .223 but the barrel doesn't have the two side notches. If anyone bought CSS lower retainer what did their instructions say about this issue? Not interested in spending $85.00 for a retainer.
  2. k-var http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17030&cat=366&bestseller=Y Tapco http://www.tapco.com/products/ak_modern/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=4 any and all comments welcome
  3. Jim you're statement consolidates my long winded post and conveys my new found awareness. I am right there with you. it must have been a hold over from shooting in Maryland for so many years you were required to shoot on the bench no standing or off hand shooting.
  4. i Have been stressing over the hand guards forever. I have UTG on right now. I would like to lighten the front end. I will probably only hang a light from the front end so rails and especially upper rails are not a super consideration.I would prefer the sling to be mounted on the side. I do prefer the longer hand guards for protection from barrel and the ability to bench rest the rifle. Do the shorter AK style hand guards allow you to bench rest the weapon well? weight, rails and expense have eliminated the Mi,DPH,surefire etc. as I might as well stay with the UTG. I have been loo
  5. Great video saved everyone time. good job
  6. i have never heard of having to shave the top of the mag. check dinzags info on mags and how they need to be worked on for fit an function before you do that. http://www.dinzagarms.com/downloads/223_mag_options.pdf
  7. i wish i had a digital camera. I just picked up 10 from AIM new in the wrapper. it doesn't show it from the pic but they do have the rib or ridge on the back. they seem have the same feel, heft, fit and finish. as the old pre ban mags i had purchased ages ago.
  8. I agree with modifying the mag latch as it is simple, less time and allows for the use of just about any AK mag out there. You can always install a new latch if one was so inclined. Once the mag is modified and for some reason you need to sell the mags then your market just shrank.
  9. just a couple of quick guesses: could it be the pin that holds the piston on is hanging up somewhere? recoil spring other than stock?
  10. i guess all gas tubes and retainers are sold. anyone want to part with two each?
  11. bigsal is that your weapon in the pic? How does the beer can do for flash, recoil, noise, accuracy, weight and handling characteristics. Give us more info and video if you can.

  13. I have been wandering how the 4 piece bulg. cone flash hider would work on full size weapon. this is from another post. It doesn't look bad but what is front end weight like. from this you tube Video it doesn't sound like it creates any more noise then a weapon without one. anyone have any input night videos etc? It may be a mute point as i have just done a quick search and these things can be expensive u.s. made and then you have to add more weight for thread adapter. still would be interesting to find out more info. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=59836
  14. i think the best person to ask would be renagadebuck.
  15. great i guess that will be my next upgrade. Heck i wander if you put one in the 7.62 would it make do the function as good? I think the only magwell adapters to date that work are from to of our own members. they are not drop in. here is and old link discussing the one you were referring to from IMI http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18295 the only AR mag adapters i know are reference on this forum. they are not drop in. search and read read read.
  16. i had the same question for years and yes i believe you should clean from chamber out but as you pointed out the receiver gets in the way. I use the bore snake for quick down and dirty cleaning sort of field cleaning only a little more in depth as i do try to get as much out as possible and clean the rest of the weapon well. Oh yeah your are suppose to wash the bore snake to remove debris. When i want to do a really through barrel cleaning I use a cleaning rod going from crown to chamber. here is a decent link that i ran across---these guys are interesting and provide a good bit of info
  17. my bad yes, you have the slider on the rear sight leaf at 1 at 25 first. Once its zeroed then move out to a target at(with slider still on 1) 100yads to dial in. Once you have it dialed in then you can move it back to BZ. When i shoot bench and know the distance then you can adjust slider on the rear leaf to the appropriate number (ie 1 for 100 and 2 for 200 and so on). i would be happy with BZ out to 200 as well. Remember BZ is set up so that under battle field conditions you should be able to have COM hits. If you have a known or approximate distance then you can move slider to appropriate
  18. SOPMOD send me the link to the saiga saga i wuold like to see it as well. thanks in advance.

  19. What does the extra power recoil spring really help that much with the recoil? does it affect the function at all? did you mean wolf spring?
  20. thats the way i went and when i had my first opportunity to shot at targets standing off hand i was super pleased. Initially, from a bench, I set the sights at 25 then dialed them in at one hundred and put the sight leaf back to Battle sight setting. I went to a new range and tossed some plastic containers out at about 30 yards and bounced them out to about 80 to 100. If i want to bench shoot at 100 i just move the leaf to 100 or 200 setting depending on how far i want shoot. Couldn't be happier. don't get frustrated with dialing in at one hundred. You will be either low or high about 4 to 6
  21. Jim if you go slow with the dremel and use a bright over head light you will see when the dremel breaks through the shroud. It will be a little frustrating but taking your ever loving time will pay off. once you see it break through you can twist off with pliers of choice. I wish i would have thought of the hose clamp idea would have made it mush easier to make straight cut. I ended up filing shroud to make it even all the way around. i have a slant break on mine. I do have one of the bird cage lying around still haven't had the time to try it out.
  22. AZ they are the 35 round metal ones. Glad to hear i may have great addition to the orlites. i can't wait to get to the range and try them out under live fire conditions. Bohound pm with info. 10.99 great price. mine were a little more but look like new. you got it Jim. It may be some time before i can get to the range to run them through their paces. I am working from 10 pm to 7 am and i never realized how that schedule really affects ones sleep cycle. I need to save a little to even think about another purchase of any kind. I have some stuff to sell but my digital camera
  23. i just purchased two steel imi galil arsenal refurbished mags (cdnn) they look really nice still haven't cleaned the camisole off yet. I went ahead and put 5 rounds in rock and lock hand cycled no issues (i do have bullet guide installed). They have a little wobble side to side but nothing to write home about. I read in dinzags tutorial that these would need some work as they can ride up over the round and cause a stove pipe. I haven't had the time to go to the range and give them a whirl while shooting. Any one with experience with these let me down easy and give me some info if they
  24. my bad i thought this bolted on the existing FSB didn't realize it was blot on replacement.
  25. hope this makes it easier for you:
