  1. I think I understand why the AR type bolt contributes to its accuracy. The seven lugs makes the bolt only need to rotate 45 degrees to unlock. That's far less a motion comparing to a two-lug bolt...not to mention that the weight of the bolt + carrier, the gas blow back, blahblah. What I am curious about is the side by side comparison of the SIG bolt vs the AK bolt vs the XCR bolt vs ..., you name it. That should be very interesting.
  2. Well, I know it's a little off topic. can you guys who have played both comment on Robinson XCR vs SIG 556? I was hesitating on which one to buy, well finally decided that I do have a saiga 308 now so maybe it's not so urgent for me to get another piston gun. So I bought a AR instead. But, you know, it's really hard to resist the temptation ...
  3. Gentlemen, we are back in action... After some trimming of the material with a file, everything is functioning like a charm with snap caps. Tommorow will be taken to the range and tried with live ammo... Thank you all SO MUCH for all the help and especially the pictures!!! :-) You are welcome! Glad to see the the picture helps.
  4. Man! I should send mine to them and get the freebies...
  5. Hi, I just saw your msg and replied. But I forgot to include some pics Here are before polishing: And I just took two pics of how it looks now: I have no confidence about my hand so I just let a gunsmith to decide how much to remove... And, I remember that for the two columns in the mag, only one side of the ammo would interfere with the lug...should be left side if my memory didn't cheat me So it should be OK to only polishing one side of the lug. Hope it helps!
  6. When mine smashed the round (as shown above), I took some pictures of the bolt, especially the surface of the lug. That's how it looks then: Now after the polishing work it runs very smooth.
  7. Could someone help to find the previous posts about this? I also ran into similar problems with my ver21's first range trip... Then a local gunsmith suggested to use FMJ for the break-in, and he also helped to polish the lug on the bolt. Well now it runs smoothly on most of my mags. ----But there's still one mag that doesn't let the bolt go, when loaded.
  8. OK, a little off topic; I know what the most "UN-discrete" case option...

    Serial numbers?

Well, 308 saiga should have a serial number like, a letter then 8 digit number on the left side of receiver. My 308 ver 21 has the last 3 digit of the number on the bolt carrier and bolt. But yesterday I went to indy1500 gun show, and found that 21" barrel saiga 308s are just like mine, last 3 digit can be seen on the bolt carrier. But the 16" barrel 308s have the last 5 digit shown there? Just curious to ask here if yours are like that.
  10. Well, now I'm the happy owner of a new Saiga 308 ver 21! The paper in the box said the gun was made in 10/31/07. And I bought some 8rds mags online, the paper with the mag said the production date was 05/27/2002. So here is the comparison: Top one is the new mag with the gun, bottom one is the older(?) model. Besides top of the mag wall, I didn't find any other differences.
