headshot 52
http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/uppers/...ban/Default.asp And I want one. When is somebody gonna give us a break and make an inexpensive one? I've looked at the mods, and they don't look like they could justify a $1000 price tag.
G O B 3,516
That is MY idea of an AR! Now if the gun fund werent empty for now....
BattleRifleG3 16
I think when competition finally gets up to speed and enough land on the market, we'll be seeing complete rifles around $1k, which is where I think it starts to look fair. Consider though that Bushmasters generally start in the mid $800s retail.
BobAsh 582
It's cool all right, but my regular AR runs fine.

BobAsh 582
" but if some one made the little black gun more reliable why not." I totally agree with that statement...I'm a huge fan of innovation. I guess if a guy has an AR fetish and a pile of cash it would be cool, but if you want a gun that will run when dirty, then it's an AK platform IMO.
BattleRifleG3 16
I'm with you on that one, Bob. That said, I wouldn't be averse to ideas that would make the AR platform more reliable. In my opinion, a long stroke piston and an OA-93 type spring system would be a step in that direction. Honestly, I tend to think it would be more reliable if the carrier and receiver didn't have such a huge surface of contact. The downside is it would probably be too much for the aluminum if it wasn't spread out over such a wide surface.
BobAsh 582
Well put, BRG3. I can think of several ways to increase the AR's reliability...maybe that will be our next project after the sub-moa AK! Or would the two be redundant? Hmmm...

KySoldier 2
Competition is certainly good, but I'd still go with POF. They've got alot of options and are cheaper than Bushmaster. For full size rifles I wouldn't spend the money, but for a SBR, I think its a great idea considering all the trouble people have making their ARs work when shorter than 14.5in. vanhoutster 0
You should check out the AR-180B. Uses a Gas piston design. has a steel upper reciever, but still uses an ar-15 lower, so it accepts any AR-15 Magazine. Thats the way I'd go if I wast to buy an AR type rifle. http://www.armalite.com/sales/catalog/rifles/ar180b.htm
roscoe 0
I don't think the AR180B uses an AR15 lower, just the AR15 trigger group. You can use the AR15 mags, however. Edited November 4, 2006 by roscoe
vanhoutster 0
sorry. my bad.. it does use the trigger group, not the lower.

Isn't it a pakistani company? They just made POF stand for something more American-sounding as opposed to Pakistani Ordinance Factory. They are who owns that GP design. for the $$$ and customer service, I'd go bushmaster. They gave me a whole new FCG when my ar's hammer shot out the j-spring.
twouvthree 0
Or go with what Daewoo came out with on their K-2 (Max-2) rifle. It had an adjustable gas regulator (like the FAL), gas piston (like the AK), used AR magazines and had a side-folding stock. They were quite accurate and reliable! The only drawback was the 180 degree turn on the safety.
