res45 4
I pretty sure around the first of the year I'm going to scope my YUGO SKS I have considered several way to do this all being drill and tap type mounts (Choate) or universal rail. The two scopes I particular like and to keep my YUGO as close to original Sniper configuration as possible and are the 4x and 6x POSP Russian scopes http://www.eastwave.ca/products/scopes/posp4x24m.html and http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=471. Does anyone have any experience with these type scopes pro or con. My YUGO is dead on accurate with iron sight and reloads but my eyesight isn't getting any better and I have scopes on all my other rifles so this is just the natural progression I'm having to go through with this rifle. Also am I correct in assuming that you only need battery power for illuminating the reticles? This is what the scope will be going on.
bigcrabrob 0
Well, I will be no help to you..... I just wanted to say nice SKS! I am torn over the sks (with tapco mods) or saiga .308 ver 21when it arrives later this month. I know that the 7.62x39 is much MUCH cheaper to shoot, but lacks in stoping power over 200+ Yards. The S .308 will come with thumb hole and relocated trigger group, thus making upgrades a cinch should I want them. If I get the SKS it will be an un-issued Yugo 59/66 + Tapco T6 fusion and Tri-Rail dust mount. For either, I want the POSP 4-8x42 Illuminated russian scope. Tell me what you think, do you own a saiga rifle? I love the sks, but both have semi-auto, High cap mag's available, look great..... its just that power wise, the .308 leaves the x39 looking like it's wearing a dress.... Any way, NICE SKS! Thanks to anyone who can tell me just how much more effective the s .308 will be over the sks - power and accuracy. SKS with mods = $550.00 or S .308 ver. 21 with Scope and Bi-Pod = $620.00 Robert. vjor 2
OK the POSP 4x24M are really good scopes if you see for what they go on prices, the glass is as good as German glass must of the time that cost a lot more, but is only 4 times the magnification than means is not mean to shoot small stuff at 200 meters, and the reticule is black and in low light you can turn the light on to turn the reticule red, but that don't mean is a read dot or anything just give you a red reticule in low light conditions, that is a plus were a black reticule will get lost or hard to see, in day light you will don't even see the change on reticule color if you turn it on. The hardest part is to install a rail on the side of the rifle to mount the scope, look on the first link the guy mount a detachable mouth for a scope, not a POSP scope but uses the same mouthing that a POSP will use, now U have to see something else, the eye relief of the scope from your rest on the butt stock of the rifle, if the scope is to far away from your head as you position it you will be not able to use it, because the reticle will close on you, remember the POSP is attach to the mount and were ever you install the mount is were the scope is going to be, not like a mount were you can install it and latter place the scope on the mouth near or farther as you need it to have a view on the scope and have the right distance from chick weld to scope, the AK rifles come preset with chick weld, like that as you set the scope you can just looks true it, the distance from scope to chick weld is preset at factory, but installing the mount on a rifle and getting the distance from chick weld to eye relief on the scope can be real tricky when the scope is attack to the mount, I guess that's why the guy did the rail installation and detach mount from scope, like that you can move scope in or out to set your eye relief on it, plus the guy have the scope all ready like he says. If you go with a detach mount I will recomend like the guy did on the first link, less work and less chances of screwing with the distance eye, chick rest and scope eye relief. but is nothing in tis world that can not be done as long as you have the will to do it and before you go hacking read and learn all you have too to make it right and dont fubar your gun, take your time and good luck Just my 2 cents worth rigatoni. By the way nice rifle. lollygagger 1
You might want to look at this: http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=565. It's new, and, about the only way you are going to get a POSP mated to a SKS. LG
6500rpm 670
It won't get you any magnification, but I have a Williams Fire Sight Front w/ peep rear sight set on my SKS that's really helped my aging eyes quite a bit. If your target blurs out, your going to have to go with optics.

It's new, and, about the only way you are going to get a POSP mated to a SKS. LG That is the way I intend on doing a mount if I go with the Russian mounting system. I had planned on mounting the scope on the rail and sliding it along the receiver till I found my proper eye relief marking the position on the receiver and mounting it there. If I don't go this rough a Choate and 3 x 9 x 32 of my choice is my next option. Edited November 27, 2007 by res45
loki0629 55
Does installing the side rail like that allow you to use stripper clips like the scout scope mount? One of these days I will get a yugo sks but I think I will go with the scout scope mounting option. http://www.scoutscopes.com/ One of vjor's links is a review of the scout scope mount on an sks. http://www.surplusrifle.com/reviews2005/sk...pemnt/index.asp

Peep sights and long eye relief sights just don't work very well with my eyesight. I know the choate mount and 3 x 9 scope would be a cheaper option for me but I think the Russian scope and mount matches the rifle better and keeps it more authentic. I believe in to each his own you pay for it you do with it as you please but its always nice to get advice from those who have experience using different scopes and mounts
