Eric Pate 478
I just picked up one of these ($700 AIM surplus) and I love the rifle, but I gotta say, my trigger SUCKS. It feels like a heavy MG trigger or something. How hard would it be to tap out the FCG and install something better like an RSA adjustable or such?
IndyArms 10,186
No different than doing it in a Saiga.... Many people upgrade the triggers in their PSL's....
Surly 11
I put an RSA FCG in mine when they first came out. It's the only way to go with these and they drop right in.
frick 3
I have used only Wolf FMJ 148 Grain in mine, accuracy is about sub 3" at 200 yards. Trigger pull is fine for me, I have no need for aftermarked parts, though I did upgrade this to the 8x scope. One thing mine does, as most other forums have noted, is to string the shots vertically as the barrel gets hot, mine tend to string high. One solution that has been suggested, is that they sling is intended to be used as a stablizer, IE, with your arm wrapped through it, and pulled snug, military style, rather than off a bipod or a rest. I also bought a spare stock and cut finger grooves into it, as the stock to hand fit is TERRIBLE, it also needed wood taken off the lower stock where it attaches to the PG. BTW, I have an unfired chi com SVD thats the queen of my safe, its the highlight of my chinee collection, and no, I am not putting any rounds through it for a field test, but if any of you want to pony up the right amount, I may part with it. frick 3
Porn for you, full weapon, and a zoom on the PG grooves. Oh yeah, it has the semi deluxe 4 color Krylonize camo scheme. Edited October 11, 2008 by frick
Rick_a 13
Could you add more details on how the bipod is mounted? Did you just go thru the cooling holes on the handguard? My PSL as well as others I've seen really likes the Czech light ball. The 7N1 was designed for the SVD and is a little heavy as the PSL's seem to like 150 gr. and below bullets. Plus the light ball is easier to find, cheaper, and has less recoil. I was also impressed with the factory trigger, and a little time spent polishing and some FP-10 make a noticeable difference. Sorry, haven't been on here in some time. It's a Harris adapter for an AR-15/M16A2 HG. I trimmed and contoured it so it'd sit against the front of the cooling slot and fit against the wood better. My wife took a couple pics of the PSL with her new camera. Unfortunately UPS lost the money order I sent for my ammo so I gotta wait a month or two for the damn claim to go through. Nice CZ you got there. The PSL is nice too. I have one in the safe awaiting degreasing and cleaning. Thanks. That CZ is a 40-P and is an interesting pistol. They are built very tightly, and it's the only firearm I've owned where it took 200 rounds of full power ammo to get it to work reliably. It's the most accurate out of the box semi-auto pistol I've fired...I actually purposely let my shots wander a bit at 12 yards so I wasn't shooting through the same key-hole the whole time. Porn for you, full weapon, and a zoom on the PG grooves. Oh yeah, it has the semi deluxe 4 color Krylonize camo scheme. That's pretty sexy. I've thought about doing my stocks in ebony but it's finished pretty well for a PSL and the color has grown on me.

I am familiar with the gun, owned the model a couple of years back when it sold new for $360 or so. Mine would never shoot reliably and I hated the decocker so I got rid of it. All my CZ-75 family guns are now in the original 9x19 chambering. I now use a CZ-75 SP01 with thumb safety, love it. Still very pretty picture.
Rick_a 13
Sorry yours didn't work out for you. I was looking into a Baby Eagle Polymer in .40S&W when I found a review of the 40P by chance. I got a new production run pistol (not the old re-badged 40B slide) for $360 right before the price increase. I always liked CZ's but this is still the only one that has all the features I'm looking for. I actually prefer decockers on my DA pistols. This is my fav pic. SP01's are very nice. I guess like PSL's, a lot of 40P's seem to be hit and miss in regards to quality for some reason.

Right now I am going to stick with the CZ-75 SP01, CZ-75 Compact, CZ-83 and CZ-52 though. I need to get my PSL ready and sighted before the new ban takes effect. I got some Russian surplus 7N1 sniper ammo squirreled away too for times of great need. BTW, did you make a full length guide rod for the 40P or did it come with the gun? Mine only came with the short plastic stub and I had to make my own FLGR out of a nitride die ejector pin.
Rick_a 13
I got a stainless "ejector pin" from MSC Industrial Supply and cut/beveled it myself for a guide rod. I've got a spam can of 7N1, too. I want to get some Czech Silvertip or Bulgarian light ball, as well. Money is super tight right now and unfortunately ammo has been near the bottom of the priority list. I'd like to put an adjustable RPK rear sight on it, eventually, too. Another thing that may be noteworthy is that the current run of PSL's have omitted the grip screw. People who've been refinishing/replacing furniture have been noticing this. I took my stock off this weekend and found this was the case. Mine had the washer and T-nut still in the stock so I bought a 6x1.0-50mm screw at a hardware store and drilled the receiver. It may not be necessary but that's the way it's supposed to be.
Saigaczech 9
Is the Bulgarian light ball the one with the yellow and silver tip? I got a good supply of that stuff. Also lots of Prvi Partisan (now known as Wolf Gold) 7.62x54. I have not seen the Czech stuff for ages here.
Rick_a 13
The light ball has no markings on the projectile.

Madwulf 0
Hello fellow shooters. I got my PSL-54C and then set out to modify it. The stock was woefully too short for my long arms, the trigger had alot of overtravel, no way to add a bipod, etc. etc. Here's what I ended up with: AK stock - "Dragunov" style, and a Brugger&Thomet tri rail. It does not have the scope on it, as the scope is beyond adjustment than the bullet path at 300m. It's canted too far up. I'll have a better scope on it soon though (Shepherd scope) Iron sights are spot on out to rediculous distance. Edited September 21, 2009 by Madwulf
Rick_a 13
As an update, I modded my PSL a bit late last year. The barrel was chopped to 21" An AK-74 style FSB and muzzle brake were used. With a better crown and the barrel being thicker near the muzzle I'm hoping accuracy may improve some. I'm not sure if the muzzle brake will be more effective, but it sure looks impressive. The brake does have a little bit of wobble. I may be doing another range report if I can get the stuck patch out of the bore tomorrow This is a link to my original range report PSL-54C - Not just a looker To be honest, I prefer the original look of the rifle but it is a lot handier now. Eric Pate 478
I'd be all over that style if you could get a 20rd mag. Or even new mfg 10rd mags for that matter.
