sarduy 0
hello everyone I have good news! i called RAA (Russian American Armory" this morning and the person who answer the phone seems very professional so i ask him if there would be any chance that we can see those (5.45x39 & 7.62x54R) saigas in the US any time soon. He told me that they're under a contract for this year, some of the weapons are in backorder (regular Saigas) so there is no way he can get something different at this time, but here's the good news He told me that they've inquire about them and that we may see one or both (i hope they get both) saigas in the US "sometime next year" the person also said that it would be good to have something "different" and mention a Saiga 30-06, i'm not sure if he was talking about the saiga 100 or something alse, but one things is for sure, i'll be buying one or both as soon as they have it available. UPDATE: 10/08/2008 I just got this email from RAA and it's nice to share it with you all. Hi Sarduy, We plan to bring in the 545X39 next year if everything goes right. We have the paperwork approved and are waiting on the factory to say when they will start shipping. The 762X54r is something I plan on asking for again in the future. We have asked before for it and the factory has said no so we will try again. Sales & Marketing RAAC

Bad Bob 0
Should have posted here first. Who cares? I'm no fan of 7.62x54Rmm, but if the ammo is cheap, and the Saigas are affordable, get the word out...
WardenWolf 6
I've got my 7.62x54R AK, my PSL. And it's a hell of a lot better gun than any Saiga, no offense to Izhmash. Just the PSL is built to a lot higher standards since it's intended to be a designated marksman's rifle. It's got reinforcements to prevent warping and bowing. It's a great gun, and I have nothing against the round other than its availability. I recently found some soft point 150 grain PRVI Partisan ammo, though, so I'm set for hunting. Also a 440-round spam can for plinking. Point being, if you're going to spend the money on a semi in that caliber, buy a PSL.

How would you know, since Saiga hasn't made one yet? Edited November 23, 2008 by Cappie

I've thought about a PSL or other Dragunov clone myself - have both a 91/30 and a M44 so I have the ammo. I just can't see dropping $900-1000 on a Dragunov-type rifle. Local shops were getting in the $800-850 range for SA-Cugirs. Now a $400-$500 Saiga, I would definitely consider that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a total cheapskate, but $500 buys a heck of a lot of ammo. Well ok maybe 85% cheapskate, I'm fixing to turn my .223 into a poor man's AR. BTW that Prvi Partizan ammo works pretty well in the Mosins, now we'll see how well it reloads. Most of the metro ranges I shoot at won't allow FMJ so that is about the only option I have (well, that and S&. Gotta go out in the country to blow off those spam can rounds. The Prvi Partizan does work well, cheap too. I buy mine at Academy for about the same price it is advertised in The Shotgun News. It is sold under the "Monarch " label. They have it in steel and brass and in about every caliber you could want.
