second shooter 22 Posted March 10, 2009 Report Share Posted March 10, 2009 I have a low mounted with rings, i like it low as its a more natual position for cheek on stock, if you want to use open sights just slide the side mount off, try a few types out, what ever feels right for you ,buy it! SOPMOD 254 Posted March 11, 2009 Report Share Posted March 11, 2009 I have been through the ringer with optic mounts for AKs and the worst pieces of crap I have yet to buy are the Kalinka low mounts.I have gone through 2 of them,they are not within 50 MOA of straight on any AK that I own and they are so full of casting marks,inclusions and defects that I don't see how these people get away with selling them.I spent 2 hours filing and lightly hammering these mounts to get them to slide on and off,lock up reliably and align parallel to the bore .I liked the K-Var mounts but they are too damned tall for what I was trying to pull off.
