waynebar 52
The US is not going to stop the production of drugs in Afghanistan as it covers the costs of their military presence there, says Gen. Mahmut Gareev, a former commander during the USSR's operations in Afghanistan. http://russiatoday.ru/Top_News/2009-08-20/...rafficking.html
zenmetsu 17
No reason AT ALL for the U.S. to shut down their drug production. It is retarded for the U.S. to impose OUR LAWS and OUR way of life upon others. In some parts of the world, alcohol is a HUGE no-no for religious or other reasons while at the same time, Opium is considered commonplace, if not ritualistic. What is the justification then in going to such places, burning down their crops all day long before retreating for the night and drinking a couple of beers right in front of the locals. Not trying to be anti-American here, but jesus fucking christ. You have to respect other people's way of life if you want them to show you any respect in turn. Some south american nation wants to grow coca plants for pharmaceuticals? Fine, let them. The U.S. needs to do it's job and secure it's borders. But of course, we love doing everything bass-ackwards and we'd sooner go over and start shit before we tighten our own borders. *sigh* I have a better idea. Legalize everything in the states so the goddamned prices of drugs goes back down. That way, the local junkies do not have to steal fucking cars to get a 2 day supply of their favorite drug. Paulyski 2,227
A few years back Canadian forces in Afghanistan were having a hard time finding Taliban solders who were hiding in a FOREST of marijuana in the Kush mountains, due to the fact that the marijuana plant soaks up so muck energy that the Flir heat detecting cameras on the helicopters could not pick up on the opposing forces body heat to target them. Being as these were Canadians, the idea they had was simple. FIRE-bomb the marijuana forest. So they FIRE-bombed it... The smoke quickly engulfed the troops & the end results arent to hard to predict. The Canadian troops reported feeling light headed , they were laughing a lot , & got real hungry. Let alone the "cotton mouth" . The Canadian Army reported that they would not try this strategy in the future. Also that unit was exempt from urinalyasys for a while... Maybe war is hell sometimes. But some of the shit that happens... Well you just can't make this up! Edit: spelling. Edited August 21, 2009 by Paulyski

Legalizing drugs in the US would put roughly half the people working in the legal system out of a job. Not gonna happen. Blame the 'downward inflexibility of prices and wages', I guess... Yeah, I have an economics test coming up.
Kwicko 8
OF COURSE we're not going to infringe on their opium farming or heroin production. After all, without that product to bring over and sell in the U.S., how would the CIA finance its OTHER little wars? And don't even ask where the Federales in Mexico keep getting all those American-made automatic weapons, or why a planeload of meth crashed into a mountain outside Juarez last spring, wearing the same tail number as one of the planes that was doing renditions out of Afghanistan a year before that through a U.S. shell company... Nope, nothing to see here. Don't look behind the curtain!
Pointer 21
I have heard that Afghanistan grows some pretty good weed up in those KUSH mountains, but i certainly wouldnt know anything about that
MD_Willington 11
If you did that, the DEA would lose all their play money, FN would lose all their M4 contracts with the DEA and State departments to hand out US firearms that end up in Mexican arsenals...
