saan2112 0
Here are some photos of different bullets recovered after being shot through layers of fence planks. They are all Brown Bear's. 1: FMJ; notice how they have flattened (caused by them rotating once they entered the planks). 2: HP; not to much to explain, the pictures do a good job. 3: SP; the particles where to small to gather, but nonetheless left some big holes. LeadMonkey 0
Nice pics ive been trying to recover lead for a while. how many planks did it go through. please show a picture of the planks.
saan2112 0
1/2" cedar planks i believe. I first set up 10, but broke threw all of them. so i set up 20 (they were old planks i had from a torn down fence). the FMJ went threw those to. Finally i set up a half of a tree trunk (about 6 in. wide) and that did the trick. the HP and SP were stopped about half way threw while the FMJ almost broke threw all. to find them, just follow they dust trails in the boards. another poor man's way of ballistics testing is with phone books. set up 10 or so and hit em'. Gaddis 1,689
Um , where are you guys managing to find the Brown Bear (and Barnaul) soft point ammo at? All I seem to find is the freakin FMJ.
Cobra 76 two 2,677
The Barnaul SP is pretty common at gunshows and my local dealers and the best "bang" for your buck as far as I'm concerned. Has better bullet expansion than wolf and the others. I heard Barnaul fmj was hard to find. Lots of people looking for that.
Gaddis 1,689
Hm, if that's the case, you would think it pretty easy to find Barnaul SP on the Internet then. But the only Barnaul I seem to see listed online is the FMJ. Maybe all you guys are buying it up at them there gunshows before it gets a chance to make it online? SaigaShooter 0
gaddis, give us a link to the Barnaul FMJ the saigas are getting hungry.
Gaddis 1,689
Oops, don't I feel stupid, I meat Barnaul HP seems pretty easy to find. I can give you tons of links to that if you like. I'm sure (if given enough time) I could find Barnaul FMJ before I ever found a source for the Barnaul SP . I'd run a quick search for you to see what I could pull up, but the online connection seems cranky today.

These are the guys I get mine from. I have not called or seen them since the last gunshow but their site says they have all of the above. Um, I am assuming that the blue & white boxed 7.62x39 SP ammo they are showing on the webpage is the fantastic Barnaul I hear so many great things about, right? (never actually finding a box of it so far).
Cobra 76 two 2,677
Gaddis I would call and talk with them about that if I were you. The last case I got from them was a while back and my stuff came in boxes that had the dude with the Saiga on the cover like the shotgun ammo. It says russian on their site so I would ask them if it's Barnaul or the same thing? I do have some of that stuff in the blue and white box around here somewhere. I will check it out for ya. Gaddis 1,689
Hi Cobra, Yeah, I guess the Baurnal ammo box would have the picture of the dude with the Saiga on it (like with the metal shotshells), so I guess it would make sense that the blue & white SP ammo boxes I see advertised on Classic Arms webpage is *not* Barnaul. Duh! <--me not thinking sensibly like that. Anyway, I don't seem to see any Barnaul SP advertised even on the text list posted there, so I guess that means if I want to get some to try out, a phonecall to them is in order. Thanks for all the help!
smithy5160 0
Um , where are you guys managing to find the Brown Bear (and Barnaul) soft point ammo at? All I seem to find is the freakin FMJ. unsure.gif at my local gun shop they have wolff fmj, hp, and sp, i bought all 3, i have had pretty good luck with the 308 wolff, but does wolff still use that lacquer junk that has been gluing or locking up pistols with 9mm or 45 ammo? kinda want to know so i dont continue to use it and possibly mess my guns up thanks
TWGLADF 0
wolf's new production stuff is poly coated but i'm sure there is alot of older laquer wolf still out there so beware of "good deals" on ammo b/c it my be the older laquer coated stuff they are trying to get rid of. i read somewhere that was selling wolf 308 that it was laquer coated. i'd only buy wolf if it directly said poly coated or if i could look at it to see that it was. i recently sold 196 rounds of barnaul soft point on gunbroker for $20. that was some damn good ammo but it was laquer coated. some people don't care, some say that these guns were designed to shoot that type of ammo so why would it hurt it. i say i'm going to try to take care of and preserve my guns as much as i can help it. that including firing nothing but the plated rounds. zinc, brass, copper washed. silver bear, golden bear, norinco 308. hell, i may even consider going with that finnish brass cased stuff that aim has. all have to be non-corrosive of course
