I actually think they would be great for my hot/humid climate, and they'd make a great statement.

Too bad they're so expensive, but, custom made clothing usually is.

I wore one to a wedding in Scotland once... does that count?

A kilt is not an indicator of lifestyle. Wearing clothes outside of the social norm is.

So, a kilt in Aberdeen is normal, a kilt in San Francisco is an advertisement.

Utilikilts are an abomination and look like crap when being worn.

 

The only people I see wearing them are the ones I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.
