whitetrashrn 74
After I got my Draco, a gun that I am having a ball with, I still thought it was a little long for my tastes in a pistol. I figured I would make one on my own so My first idea was a mish mosh Krinkov style pistol. Found some parts here and there but the majors (top cover, FSB, Barrel, ) are hard to come by if you are poor. I have a 81/2" yugo barrel that I will cut down and will wait until I hit the lottery to finish it. I had the 2" gas piston and came across a front sight gas block cheap. The rest is a pistol trunnion, cut hand guards and I have a 12 1/2" barrel ( non chrome lined) that I will trim down to 8 1/2" on the lathe and cut the journals to fit. Just tacking the gas tube with JB until I get it all set up with the barrel then I will weld it all up. It is a little harder than I thought with getting all the #s right. I got it now I think. The question I have is with the 8 1/2" barrel and the gas port 1 7/8s down the barrel should I be around 1/8" for the gas port in the barrel??? I know someone here has done it. Just looking for a tip. I used google and found way too many answers. Thanks to someone if they can help. Edited October 19, 2010 by whitetrashrn
whitetrashrn 74
For this pistol the gas tube was more difficult for me until I made my own "swedge" device. I had a couple 3/4 in wheel spacers from my Ironhead Harley and a air hammer tool. Ground out the spacer just until it slid over the cut gas tube, put the air tool in the drill press and filed the concave portion until it fit into the rounded end of the gas tube. Put it into the press put a little grease in it and started pressing slow. It went right to where I wanted and no cracks. Just have to file it a little and it worked perfect. I know this is an old Idea but new for me. Pics suck I know ..cell phone.. Anybody have an answer to the gas port size for my 8 1/2 barrel??

vitamink 90
neat! i was wondering when someone else was gonna make one of these. There were 2 really unique ones on here that looked awesome.
22_Shooter 1,560
Looks awesome! We need bigger, clearer pics of the complete product!
whitetrashrn 74
Yea the pics suck. I was trying to get one of the gas tube as I am parkerizing it. It will have to get a coat of something. I used silver solder to hold on the retainers on. Doesn't take to it. I have used this on other stuff and is real strong. Easy to use as well. Probably should stop buying parts and get a camera already..
22_Shooter 1,560
I can't wait to get my Draco. If it weren't going to SBR'ed down the road, I'd really be interested in shortening it like you did. Looks awesome.
whitetrashrn 74
This one is a whole new build... I wanted to leave my Draco alone just in case. My Gun Smith had that gas block sight combo laying around and was tired of looking at it so cha-ching GAVE it to me. The rest are just parts and a NDS 3 and some homemade crap I made. used a 2" gas piston and I am down to cutting and tapping the barrel and building this coming weekend. whitetrashrn 74
There it is. Almost there. Drill gas port, pin sight block, and fit gas tube a little better, and Shoot.. Couple of pics of me spinning my barrel. My dads old lathe still works like a charm. Want to finish and shoot this afternoon. whitetrashrn 74
I love my sandblaster. No sand just bead. Feeds, shoots, ejects, just like it should. Shot one mag 1 then 2 then 3, couple quick shots and then just emptied a total of 40 without a hitch. Took it apart and beadblasted and is ready to take a swim in the park tube. Take my time at that and I should have a winner here. Edited October 27, 2010 by whitetrashrn

whitetrashrn 74
Thank you. Big Sal. I saw in one of the threads that a front sight like this one sold on GBn for $500 Orig. AK 105 front sight and it was kinda beat up. Was that true?? (First pic) As it seems I came across a brand new one like it. Was Told it was right from the Home Land of the AK. The pics are bad I know, but mine has the same markings (2 bottom pics) Finish is 100% I would like to build a 105 and I have this to start. I think I am on the right track?? I do have a brand new unconverted Saiga 7.62 so maybe a AK 104 clone?? So many ways to go with one little part. Probably a shit part and I should just give it away.. Right?? K-Var had a couple and the girl said they were going fast so I couldn't resist. BTW Those HGs are cool. I think they may find their way on to my LITTLE FRIEND.. whitetrashrn 74
I hate to be presumptive but the more I read about that sight block the more I am finding out it's worth. If it is what I think it is WOW I made a score!!

If it is what I think it is WOW I made a score!! I recently paid $200 for one. If you got one of the 30 k-var had you scored a great one man.
whitetrashrn 74
I was on the phone checking for a krinkov front sight block. They dont have them but you never know when they will so I call them now and then. The woman said no Krink but would I be intrseted in a Russian I said Sure why not seems that stuff is getting hard to get or you have to give up a kiddney (not a bad idea.. You got 2) It was like $120 shipped. I am trying to step up to some higher end builds so This may be the start of good one. I get a kick out of the research and the search for the parts. It makes it real special when you find that right part you just spent 6 months looking for. Kinda like my Crack.. Why so cheap from them??? I know they were all gone in an hour after I bought. I called back for another after thinking but all gone. The more I read about this the less i want to handle it. I will give you a heads up and if things dont go well for this build I will get in touch with you and give you that great deal if you want it Thanks for the good feedback on my work. It has come a long way since I was afraid to press my own rivets to parking my own stuff now. Its really cool..
whitetrashrn 74
All the park came out nice. Might just leave it that way and not finish over it. Put it back together and may get a set of those Hand Guards BigSal posted. A couple folks that saw my Draco said the quad rail, just smaller, would look kick ass. For now just sand the wood all the way down then just brush on the toung oil. Put it on and steelwool it and repeat about 5 times and you get a real solid finish. It lets the real wood show. I will take the last set of pics with a good camera. Thanks Guys for the nice comments, Big SAl Found these a couple posts ago and I wound up with this set. I thought they were pretty cool and had a few Hours of OT in so I got them. I will put on and take the blurry finished pics. You would think I or someone would have a digital cam. NOPE!! Just cell phones. Edited November 2, 2010 by whitetrashrn
bigsal 757
the handguards are pure sex! I look foward to seeing them installed.
whitetrashrn 74
Needs a little touching up but for the most part done. I bought those other handguards so I didn't waste a lot of time on the wood ones. Hope the new ones fit good. Will wait and see. I will post one more set if they do. 22_Shooter 1,560
Looks nice as it is, but I can't wait to see it with the polymer HG's installed. I plan on the same kind (only in standard AK length) for my Draco.
whitetrashrn 74
When I get the hand guards I want to put a Bulgy 74 handgrip. I like the lighter color grip with the darker hand grips. I will take the one off my Bulgarian rifle I built. I will check it out and get one if I like it. It is the one that has a brownish. color sort of. If not The one on there is a nice thick Balelite one. A ton thicker than any USA one I have.. Finished. I'm happy with it.. whitetrashrn 74
Thanks fellas. I am going to do a AK105 next. I have that sight block above, and a unissued 5.54 bulgarian double circle 10 parts kit. I dont know the sig. of the double circle 10 but the kit is sweet. All I need is the sidefolder stock and trunnion and plumb handguards. I was going to just buy a Saiga 5.45 to keep it Russian bit I am not a fine gun collector and a New Bulgarian parts kit is just fine for me. Thanks again for the compliments..
