TWGLADF 0
ok i've tried a few different brake types for the mosin nagant and all that i've tried can't hold up to the recoil and blast of the potent 7.62x54r round. the next idea i have is to drill a hole through the front site base so that a brake can be pinned in place. that would solve the problem of the slip on brakes ripping off the rifle. only other option would be to thread end of barrel and thats out of the equation. it seems it would be ok to drill through the front sight base. what do ya'll think? vjor 2
Slip on brake, silver solder it. If you silver solder on the barrel, put wooden dowels inside the barrel to avoid the barrel from rust in the inside after solder. http://www.gswagner.com/misc/silversolder.html http://www.gswagner.com/mosin-nagant/brake/mnbrake.html http://www.gswagner.com/mosin-nagant/mnsporter.html

TWGLADF 0
ok thanks i've checked that page before but forgot all about it. i was kinda looking for something not so permanent. that solder would definately hold that sucker on there. i'll end up trying something out not sure which it will be yet. G O B 3,516
Try Brownell black 'gunsmiths' loc-tite. They claim it will hold almost anything! G O B
TWGLADF 0
thanks gob i'll put it to the test i've never seen the blast from a round rip a muzzle brake in half. and no the bullet didn't hit the brake. i already investigated that route. been through 2 brakes so far. a twist on that ripped the locking lug off the brake that wraps around the front sight. and one that clamps and screws around behind the front sight. pulled the screws out the brake side ways and almost ripped it off the rifle. thats one damn potent muzzle blast! IndyArms 10,186
Odd.... I put an imbel 5 slot brake on my m91/30... the bullets were just barely hitting the tip edge of the brake and being sent out downrange at like 5 feet high at 200M.... didnt even come CLOSE to taking the brake off the rifle... and they WERE HITTING IT... it was just held on with 2 tiny set screws, too... Vaarok 0
Extend the bayo on a '44 or affix the bayo on a 91/30. Trust me. And all the brakes available right now are crap.

bamaboy 0
Seems to me I had seen one for sale by Pacific canvas & leather for around $40 that just twisted on around the front sight sort of like a SKS, and they also had one for an enfield. I'll look and see if I can't find it.
G O B 3,516
If you don't mind ugly, you can use a muzzle thread adapter an screw on one of AA-OK's 'tank cannon' style brakes. That is what I am going to use on My S-.308. G O B
