FTE advice please

I picked up my Siaga yesterday. My brother took it out to see how he liked it and could not get it to run. He said he tried Fiocchi 00 buck, a Winchester pheasant load, high brass and a Remington trap load, low brass. He said the Fiocchi sometimes would cycle a second round, only to FTE, both of the others always FTE. Do I take it back and ask the store to resolve the issue? I purchased it as a new, converted weapon in the factory box.

Did he adjust the plug? 1 for high brass stuff, and 2 for low brass. Also, are your gas ports visible? If so how many? Are any covered? use a paper clip,dental pick to make sure they are all the through.

I started by polishing bolt,carier,and railes.

Is yours a 19"?

He tried both settings. I looked today and there are 3 ports, but I didn't try a paper clip to make sure they were all clear. It looks like setting 1 completely blocks the ports. I was mistaken, it was the pheasant load that would sometimes cycle a second shell.

 

I called the store where I bought it. The guy I talked to said "We could send it back for warranty, but they have banned importing them." I pointed out that they have not been banned and that the factory had some issues, and that it was a converted weapon so it could not be sent back to the factory anyway. He said to bring it back and they would take a look at it. I live an hour away, so he said his boss would call me tomorrow.

 

I had hoped that it might run right out of the box like an AK, but it's not to be. I'll be interested in what his boss says, as this shop is pandering to fear. I put it on layaway on Jan. 23 for $999.99 (converted with MD Arms drum). They have one just like it for $1,800.00 on the shelf now. Nice guys.

I would say don't take it back. There is probably nothing they will do that you can't. Read all the FTE threads. These guns don't always run 'out the box' but they ALL run. Take the gun out yourself and shoot it, don't use the bulk pack rounds rite now. Break it in. Report back after 150 rounds of powerful rounds. Your gun is fine.

I didn't realize you could buy a converted factory Saiga out of the box. I thought they were all imported unconverted. Maybe I misunderstand

The gun was new with the factory box, but someone had converted it. It had a Tapco stock, pg and rail with MD arms muzzle device and 20 rd drum. I am assuming some one in the states is converting them to sell. They had more than one set up this way. I am sure it was imported in a different configuration than the way it was sold.

i've read somewhere in this forum and i strongly believe that, before any conversion, make sure your stock saiga cycles your loads just fine.

 

if the gun store you bought the saiga from did not get it right the first time (despite the conversions they did), i doubt if they can do it right when you return it to them for repairs. if you're returning the gun for refund though, that's ok.

 

i agree, you can do most reliability modifications yourself. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do it. just lots of time and patience i guess.

I was a little nervis the first time I had to clean it LOL

But I just finished takeing the g as block off and drilling.

 

Of corse I had polished bolt,carier,and rails first.

And It ran better.

 

But it needed a little more to cycle the cheep stuff.

 

See if their is a saiga member that lives close by

that will help.

^ that is what happened to me. I needed help years ago and recieved a PM from a member in my area. He helped alot and is now a good friend. This forum is filled with knowledgable folks who want to help. Without Jmac my saiga's would not be what they are. I have learned alot from him and consider him a close friend. I bet someone in your area will help you too..

So I took it out today to test things. First I sprayed it with Breakfree CLP so it was WET. Then I loaded 3" Remington slugs. It ran all three just fine. I followed it with 2 3/4" Remington slugs, they also ran fine, on settings 1 and 2. The only FTE I had was the fifth round (1 Rem slug, 4 Fiocchi OO buck) on setting 2. After a total of 20 slugs and 4 OO buck, its filthy. I'll give it a good cleaning and run it some more Sunday. Thanks for the advice. Anyone in Eastern Washington?

Just a thought next time don't run the Fiocchi ammo. I reload my ammo and just taking a guess the Fiocchi ammo may be a slow burning powder so when you fire a round some of the unburned powder is plugging your ports. I used winchester WSF powder once it left my Mossberg 500 barrel filthy after 1 shot cause it was a slow burning powder. Now I use IMR 700-x and my gas plug stays on setting #1 for high or low brass and no FTE.

Just a thought.. did you spray the inside of the gas block? Or was it dry?

You may be undergassed, but your hammer may just need profiling.

An unprofiled hammer is the #1 reason for warranty repair claims that are not covered.

check the fire control group for profiling. and not racial profiling.

 

 

a bad trigger group will screw your whole world up, extra gas or not.....
