allanschisel 0
I wanted to buy a POSP 4-8x42. I had a few querstions and noticed Kalinka has no phone number (red flag). I sent them an email. After a week, I received an answer to some of my questions, but some of the answers were vague and lead to more questions. I decided to go with Night Vision instead. Less selection, but they had the scope I wanted for the same price. Even if it was a bit more, I would of chosen that company based on ease of communication. http://www.nightvisionweb.com/ak_svd_scopes.htm I hope these guys don't have a bad rep. danny boy 0
I have always been satisfied with them. Order usually gets here in three days or less, always correct.
allanschisel 0
danny boy, are you talking about Night Vision or Kalinka? TIA, Allan Schisel
Cobra 76 two 2,677
Kalinka Optics is in my home state but there are two reasons I haven't given them my biz. First they don't publish their phone number. Then there was an ad I saw once on ebay that claimed the mounts like the one pictured here without the reinforcing pins were factory rejects from Belarus and these guys bought them in bulk as such. I'm not positive Kalinka is the company they were talking about but the Belarus mount I have has the pins and this one does not. Anyone have anything to add about this? I'm sure someone else must have seen that.
expeditionx 1
Kalinka is a small operation. A few people run it. No phone number. They wont call you if you email them. When I tried to email them about some scope mounts they sent me I didnt hear back for a few days because the guy I was dealing with said they were busy at a gunshow (out of town). I sent my scope mounts back and ups couldnt get ahold of them. Ups then sent the mounts back to me I gave up trying to get my money back. The mounts were really crappy. Didnt seem as good as the ones pictured on the kalinka website. I ordered a much better scope mount from IOR. http://www.valdada.com/vn/ior/04j The IOR mount is the best AK scope mount I have ever seen or handled. I was soo impressed with the IOR mount that I looked at the IOR tacticle scopes. I bought the IOR 6x24x50 with the MP8 reticle to put on a boltaction .308 rifle. http://www.valdada.com/vn/ior/03s The IOR is as good as a nightforce scope. http://www.nightforceoptics.com/?catid=1&v...3ecdd4df00f5288 The IOR has:a Laser etched reticle, uses the same lense glass as zeiss/optical glass by Schott Glasswerk, Germany (IOR is partially connected to or owned by zeiss), and is built like a tank. Anyhow, avoid low quality products and unreliable dealers when you can help it.
IndyArms 10,186
HOLY FUCK!!!! I wish I had the kind of loot to spend almost $1400.00 on a SCOPE!!! Better yet... I wish I had your job that MAKES that kind of loot!!! holy....
expeditionx 1
HOLY FUCK!!!! I wish I had the kind of loot to spend almost $1400.00 on a SCOPE!!! Got a deal on a new one for $990 new in box a while back. Its phenomenol. At 24 power magnification its much brighter/clearer than a leupold rifleman at 4 power. Theres no wire reticle to break because its lazer etched on a solid plane of glass. Even leupold still uses wire reticles. The MP8 reticle is 15 mildots verticle and 10 horizontal. Thats alot of holdover points. If I was to ever buy another scope for long distance it would be either IOR or Nightforce.
G O B 3,516
$990 Holy FUCK! If I had that kind of money in the "gun fund" I'd buy more SAiga's! G O B
danny boy 0
Alan, I've only ordered from Nightvisionweb once but good people too, though I was talking about Kalinka. Disclaimer: don't buy from a company based on a few people saying we like them, nor avoid them because a few people say they suck... As always and especially in the gun business it's buyer beware. Except JOEKEN, I want to see them out of business for good.
cvasqu03 21
HMMM Interesting. My friend got great and fast service purchasing a scope mount from them recently. Then I heard about some people who had much worse experiences with them. Maybe it depends who's minding the e-mail. From what I've seen personally, they seem to be great, but the no phone # thing really is a red flag though. Edited January 10, 2006 by cvasqu03
Illumini 0
I just got a scope mount from them and it was the fastest service of anything I have ever bought online.
avatar 4
I've ordered lots of stuff from Kalinka. First they have the best selection of Russian optics out there. Everything I ordered was drop shipped from Russia. Had the nightmare UPS runaround only once on a bad 6x scope -- the illumination didn't work right, UPS couldn't deliver it, I had to pay 2x for shipping it back to Kalinka. I wasn't called a Dickhead or to screw off, but I've read some accounts lately of people being treated rudely . If Kalinka is the only game in town and you really want it then go for it. Just make sure you feel lucky. Former Soviet optics are generally really good but sometimes the Vodka runs low. On those days Quality Control becomes rather spotty. Kalinka has no phone. Makes for a real PITA in making returns. So much so in fact I kept a 3-9x pso with a stray laser mark ( Vodka related ) on the reticle which I would normally have exchanged but my prior experience made me just keep it. TANTAL and Freedom Optics and Nightvision Web. If they got it I'd try them first.
dodgeturbointerceptor 1
Freedom Optics is a good bet. Tantal is spendy but good too. Better alternatives than bending over waiting for Kalinka to stick something in.
