saiga488 0
A little while back I bought one of those LEO edition Saiga 12s with the factory Russian side folder from Legion USA. From day one of receiving the shotgun the side would not latch shut in the folded position. Originally I liked the gun so much that it didn't bother me, but lately its started to bug me. This brings up a couple of questions: 1. Is it normal for the stock not to latch in the folded position straight from the Russian factory or did I get a lemon? 2. What's the RIGHT way to make things right? File/grind the latching tab on the stock, file/grind the actual latch on receiver, or redo the position of latch on receiver by make the rectangular cut out longer towards the rear of gun? The first picture shows where the stock naturally hits the latch when normally folder. No matter how hard you push the latch will not even try to spring open. The second picture shows how far the latch opens after taking a screw driver and manually holding latch open while I fold the stock. Obviously you can see the stock still wont latch folded with the latched pushed all the way over. Edited May 18, 2014 by saiga488
JoeAK 337
I would file the stock just until it fits, I've heard you might have to do this with AK-100 stocks, but I didn't need to on mine.
DavidQ 170
I'll take a pic of mine when i get home. I also have one of these. Maybe it will bring some insight to your problem.

beefcakeb99 572
So they scratched the k off?
DavidQ 170
From what legion has told me, 4 guns came in with the K still there out of 40. I was one of the lucky ones. Still a K model just not marked so.
smb 3
Is there no warranty on them? I don't remember them coming out that long ago.
Eric Pate 478
I am utterly shocked at the difference in appearance between those two latches. Are these BOTH straight from Legion?
DavidQ 170
Mine was technically sold by aquila arms which shares the same address as legion. And the phone number goes to the same place also.
lelandeod 179
The Saiga 12 gauge front latch is designed to work with the 12 gauge rubber butt pad, which has a reshaped latch catch. The 100 series steel rifle butt plate (like what appears to be installed on your shotgun) has to be trimmed significantly to work with the 12 gauge front latch. beefcakeb99 572
So would it be reasonable to use a rifle latch with the rifle plate?
JoeAK 337
Nope, the S-12 doesn't have enough room under the front trunnion for a normal latch.
beefcakeb99 572
Well shit... Guess I'll have to fork out for the correct latch, anyone have a source for one cheaper than 60 bucks?!
1liter 20
Go slow and file down (check and re-check) the stock latch area, should be good to go.
gregomega 929
Guess ill have to check mine when I get home. doesnt look like anything a little time with the dremil wont fix Scratched out area looks like a C Edited May 29, 2014 by AZG
DavidQ 170
It does kinda look like a c model. Those had the ribs on top correct?
gregomega 929
It does kinda look like a c model. Those had the ribs on top correct? It could be a K. Iz108's have the ribbed front sight rail. 109's do not, regardless of C or K model. I am probably wrong. Just an observation Edited May 29, 2014 by AZG
lelandeod 179
It's not the latch that's the problem... it's the catch on the butt plate. You need one of these: http://www.rusmilitary.com/images/saiga12_buttpad.jpg
gregomega 929
right, but Ive seen, and used myself a triangle stock that didn't require any modification to the the stock catch. not saying you're wrong, just never had to mod one except on the stock you refer to. lelandeod 179
I don't know about the triangle stocks, but the 100 series poly stocks need to be trimmed, in my experience. OP, Take it off and send it to me. I'll trim and re-coat it for you, no charge.
gregomega 929
You know way better than I ever will so. Thanks for the help. Pretty badass of you to do that for the OP.
