  1. ok when i saw the thread name i just wanted to reply "well stop shitting on your gun" but after reading that first post, it reminded me of a marlin that i got brand new...just a plain old model 60. took it out of the box and i swore to god that somebody shoved it up a cows ass and left it there for a week. so i took the wood off it and soaked the metal parts in a parts washer at my dads work (i was 15 at the time and my father was a mechanic). after about 30 mins it came out smelling better..not too sure if it was any cleaner BUT, yeah i never did get the smell out of the wood and replac
  2. one dumb question for ya bob...what is it a SBR..i dont see a but stock on it?
  3. the PA 63 is a nice little gun for the money but id also advise that one make sure that under recoil that you watch where your finger slides to. i shot my grandfathers and well i didnt have the greatist grip on it and it slid up my hand a little and my trigger finger pulled the take down latch/trigger guard and i kinda jammed the weapon up a little BUT i cant say they are bad guns by the strech of the mind. however for the money id get a cz-82
  4. Yeah, for what it is, it's way overpriced. With Ruger's manufacturing capabilities, a sub-$1000 AR of this type AR would have cornered the market and still made money for Ruger. Absolutely. Otherwise why not just get the SIG? It's cheaper by several hundred dollars. I guess we'll have to see but Ruger seems to have screwed the pooch on that price point. or my thought is...why the high cost for the ar-15 with pistion drvie when you can get a kel tec su-16 for easily under $600 hell they have a kit to make a su-16e with a m4 stock and the PLR-16 pistol grip.... i agree..
  5. thats why i haven't given up (well not totally) the 9x39 is a nice round but they are gonna be 2 very , very VERY diffrent animals. im looking at this round as a brush/door breaching/a type of PDW the 9x39 is meant for subsonic/AP work to which my idea might work as well but its not the intended goal. if you go to "the weapons builders forum there is an AK in .40 S&W and a 7.62x25 out there that work. this is what gives me hope that it will still work. the round im still working on ballistics, but i still need some help on starting load data for the .401 Winchester and what its operati
  6. well im back and sadly no.... after all these months and making about 100 diffrent dummy rounds i have decided that the ar-15 platform is a bust (and sorry no pics, just had a baby back in november and have been too bussy to get them for ya) BUT the single stack mags for the Saiga works GREAT! and the other version of the round i got it to work in only 1 m1 carbine mag (and a 15 rnder at that) i there might be life left in this idea yet...im gonna borrow a buddys 75 rnd AK drum to see if it might function in that... next stop barrels...
  7. If your looking for a SHTF gun, that you may put your life on, I'd opt not to go with Oly. For a little more cash, you can have a much better AR, and if it comes down to your life depending on it, a little cash is nothing. Personally, I think the whole AR vs AK "debate" is dumb. Two different animals, as far as I'm concerned. Either way, an AK would fit the trunk/SHTF gun role better than an AR, IMO. For the price of even a cheap Oly, you can have 2 Saigas (rifles). 2 great AK's > 1 less-than-stellar AR . ya know ya got a point so how cheap could i build a
  8. oh and on a side note...about the "ring" your brother gets from the bolt slamming home, my buddy's bushy were talking about here has that same "ring", and he dropped i think 800-850 on it. im not saying its bad im just saying things like that are not always important. but i do get what your saying in regards to quality and fitting. oh and AMEN about the cheap optics thing, to me , if you got a gun that will shoot 1 moa and the bullet is meant for more than 500 yrds, spend no less than 250 on the glass for it. i am a simple man when it comes to optics, plain cross hairs are fine by me.
  9. well with OLY, even if the fit and finish inst that great i don't care cause i plan to use it for truck/shtf gun of sorts so no matter what its gonna get the hell kicked out of it. all i care about is the accuracy and reliability as for going the saiga route, i cant too easily free float an ak plus i cant seem got get anyone who has a .5 moa AK, but for me even 1-1.5 moa is good by me. but that not to say im still not in debate on that idea of ak vs ar i think a lot of the bad press for oly comes from when they used cast receivers. a dumb idea for sure. now they use billet, but we are
  10. well for him i think a 1.5-3x magnification will work for what he wants.. i still think its nutty to even bother but to each his own ..... on a side note after stumbling across the Olympic arms k16 i was wondering what you guys think of it? i mean he spent over 800 on his bushmaster carbine and i am finding these oly rifles for under 700 free float hand guards and bull barrel looks like a good way to go with a flat top receiver. i was thinking that if i went that route that id use a nice 3-9x40mm optic (simple but reasonable for the gun and round) and maybe having a reflex optic
  11. i know what your saying but, he doesn't have the cash or the new upper. so hence the route he wants to take. if i was to do it id take a Olympic arms k16. never the less this is the route he wants to take with this. namely for price so price range is like 120-200 at most
  12. ok a buddy of mine has ar-15 thats pretty much a stock m-4 carbine from bushmaster. not a bad gun but he wants some glass for it now i am not at all opposed to scoping a carbine but with how high the carry handle is set and then add scope bases and optics i cant imagine how high id have to place my head to look down it! add to that since this isn't a long range match rifle i don't believe that high magnification will used to any real efficiency. so being a long range minded, Mauser bolt action shooting, high match grade ammo using kind-o-guy. i don't have the foggiest idea what to suggest
  13. mine is a Wyoming Arms/ Parker in .40 S&W, it looked nice and is all stainless steel, great sights, dose not eject for crap ( i have to single load the rounds in the mag) good trigger, terrible fitting of parts, feels good but still very chunky with all of the extra metal they could have removed, too small of trigger guard, safety is a POS cause of its location and how stiff it is, cant find parts, and that damn square front of the trigger guard makes finding a good holster an insane task. hence why its my project gun im thinking about taking out to 10mm, the thing might shoot .40 S&
  14. eh go figure....over 90 views and no one else responding. i guessed that this would be a lead zeppelin.
  15. ok i gotta say i wasn't expecting you to reply let alone to be the first one to do so. to be totally honest i didn't think this thread would get any reply at all! so to say the least, i am deeply honored that you ACTUALLY BOTHERED TO READ MY INSANE DRIBBLE!!? now down to business i can see what ya mean. it should be a double stack. i mean its only gonna be as wide as the 6.5 Grendel but then again the 6.5 Grendel is a necked and pointed round with my idea i want to use pistol bullets. (ie straight and blunt) hmmm..... what if i used Colt 7.62x39 mags? (ok expensive and kinda ha
  16. so here we are kiddys with me coming up with dead ideas and looking for a way to make them relevant again. this time around it comes in the form of an idea im sure others have had namely the well loved 7.62x39 case. up front, im a huge 10mm/.41 mag kind fo guy so i wanted to see what could be done to something like an SKS or an AK for that matter. so while i was looking at the 7.62 i figured you could just cut it off at the case shoulder and open it up that way, remove the body taper to make it parallel in lay out (ok ok ok i know ya cant make the case PERFECTLY straight but you get the id
  17. ya know after looking at it more and more ....is it me or dose something about this damn thing remind ya a little bit of the old rem. 788 im not saying a clone or anything, but how the receiver looks kinda like someone took a 788 and opened the ejection port. eh maybe i have been looking at rifles too damn much
  18. so today i went to centerfire systems web sight to lo, and behold to my eyes a saiga .308 bolt action rifle. now i know that they have been brought here under the Loz 7-1 line of arms but i have never seen one up close to tell what kind oif action they use ir what the qualtiy is like. soooo i was wondering if anyone had some info on these guns for me to make my decision on. here a link for all that dont know what in the hell im talking about. http://www.centerfiresystems.com/index.asp...amp;ProdID=1731 (might have to cut and paste this one in )
  19. true, but why not a conversion for it to use the mags for the ROMAK PSL?
  20. me i have a cz-40b, cz-52, and a cz-75d compact i am HUGE fan of CZ...bit the vz-58 dose not take ak mags and the price is a little more than i want to spend so hence why i am on this board! how ever i do want one of the 7,62x39 carbines they make (wonder how much moding it would take to make it use AK mags ) oh and i plan to get a cz-82 soon as centerfire gets them in
  21. ok so what is the cheapest way to convert? i mean price wise i can do all the work myself but i need to find the most LOW cost way to do it and what should my total price be at the bare bone lowest
  22. i have found its done by Tennessee gun works actually... thought ya might like to know that
  23. hmph, 300...poo, i wanna keep this a cheap as possible. ah what the hell i guess a 16 will work, what my end goal was to make something like a modern Tabuk rifle but with MUCH better quality but if i cant get my hands on a 20in for a little more reasonable price then i wont worry about it! but hell while im here i figure id ask for best suggestions for the parts to use on the conversion. sooooo i DON'T want a folding stock, im thinking of a SAW grip, the G2 trigger pack (duh) and the ak-74 type muzzle brake (ill have my gunsmith to do that) now i don't mind if i loose the 74 brake
  24. hello all! I am new to the boards and have have been bitten with the Saiga conversion bug but I want a 20 instead of the 16 (i just like longer tubes) my main goal for this is to be used as my SHTF gun, and just good hearted plinking (and some testing to see how much accuracy you can squeeze from a AK thats under $500) but I have seen quite a price difference from the 16 to 20 (16in are going for 270, but 20's are going for 299.99) so I am just looking for the best place to buy one at the best price possible. any and all posts will be appreciated! THANKS!!!
