  1. They're actually going for substantially more than that these days. $500-600 seems normal from online retailers. If you have a source for them in that lower price range I'd LOVE to pick one up shortly down the road.
  2. I see what you're saying about about being a super wide receiver - for rimmed shells. But all those problems going from double to single stack go away when you go to a rimless shell. If you were to design a shotgun that used a double-stack mag that did not then come to single feed at the top - the only section of the receiver that would have to be that wide would be the magazine well, and it could taper inward toward the barrel to act like a feed ramp on either side - since the bolt just strips right from the center. Not really that much different from any beltfed firearm - the feed tray is s
  3. Fair enough - that's more than I knew about the feed systems of tube guns. My thought on semi-rimless are definitely defeated by that - no point. I think you're right that no big munitions manufacturer would pick it up, and if someone invested in a batch (like Tony Rumore did to launch the .458 Socom) it would be unlikely that it would pay off in the short run, and iffy even in the long wrong. Without a line of firearms on the market launching around the same time that takes the new ammunition, very few people would be interested. If someone invested enough to say, fund a custom batch
  4. I'm familiar with that stupid proprietary shell. If it were open source and anybody could make it, it might catch on - especially if it caught the attention of one of the big players and a wider variety of firearms were made to accommodate it. A semi-rimmed shell might be ideal - you could still headspace it off the rim, negating the need for a shoulder, but it would still feed well in a double-stack mag. Such a shell, using the same priming system and same internal dimensions as a standard 12-gauge shell, would be easy to reload - all you'd need is a new shell holders. If you could use the
  5. What we really need is one of the big players to design and market the hell out of a rimless or semi-rimmed shotgun shell so that doublestack magazines are easy to make and feeding in general is less of a pain in the ass. A non-proprietary 12-gauge shell and a small line of sporting shotguns that used them would be a great start. We're basically shoehorning a cartridge that's been around since the 1870s into a modern high-tech shotgun - because that cartridge is plentiful, not because it's particularly suited to the purpose.
  6. Just to be clear - for rental you send $25+$50 deposit = $75 total, then get $25 back at the end? Sounds like paying $50 to rent $60 worth of tools. Or are you saying customer sends $50 total and gets half of it back at the end?
  7. I was putting some thought into this recently - now, I haven't reloaded Berdan stuff in a long time, but if I remember right the primer itself is super simple - just a primer cup with priming compound, and the anvil is an integral part of the case. So - if a company sold appropriately thin brass sheet - I imagine one could stamp primer cups at home on a hand press - if one was willing to fuck around with making priming compound, assuming that doing so would be legal. When you loaded steel cased 7.62x39 - did you use normal steel dies, or did you get a company to make you carbide rifle dies?
  8. Five comments before it got to yelling racial slurs while gunning down black people - good job, you definitely aren't making gun owners look like psychotic rednecks.
  9. Did some looking around, can't find any confirmation whatsoever anywhere.
  10. Better late than never! YOU MONKEYDICK FUCKSTICK ASSHOLE, HOW FUCKING DARE YOU? THAT'S THE MOST RIDICULOUS FUCKING THING I EVER - nah, not really into it, you're pretty legit. I don't think anybody's got their panties in a wad, but when people see something silly, they tend to want to comment on it. His price is pretty damn silly - hence the comments to that effect.
  11. They don't like it when you refuse to answer the door - but sans warrant, they do go away eventually.
  12. Supreme Court has upheld the right of citizens to record LE. State wiretapping laws are in that regard null and void.
  13. Complaining about rape in a rape thread is against the forum rules, guys.
  14. More advantages for the Vepr - thicker receiver, fewer problems cycling heavy loads. I know PSLs have issues with rapid overheating - wonder if the Vepr rifles have the same problem. Either rifle, set up to accept Lahti 20-round mags, would be splendiferous.
  15. ^ Great point! The fit, finish and quality of a Vepr is light years ahead of a PSL. I would love to buy or build a PSL some day, but I'd rather have a VEPR, given the chance.
  16. Don't do it! They're Romanian AKs, and they'll be back unless an even crazier ban in enacted. Trading a high-end AR for a ~$600 rifle sounds like a raw deal for you. Look for the same crap you look for in other Romanian rifles - canted gas blocks, canted sight blocks, part fitment. When I buy a Mosin I always bring along a dummy round as a half-assed way to look for excessively bad headspacing - might not be the worst idea on a PSL, though I've never run into one that had a headspacing problem. I've run into a couple of Mosins that would not close the action on a dummy round. Look for all th
  17. Do you think the 7.62 rifles were all M14s, or maybe a few Remington bolt guns in the mix?
  18. Nope, I'm there with you. I admire the efficacy of the campaign - but it is one built on social pressure and a viral meme. It is, at its essence, a social pressure meme - sibling to chain letters. That it is for a good cause mitigates some of that negative association - I still refuse to participate.
  19. I prefer using factory external chokes, if I use a choke at all. It just seems... wrong, to internally thread a nice original chrome-lined bore.
  20. I believe those are called "Century monkey marks" Depending how deep they are, you might be able to buff them out before you refinish - or you might just fill them by using one of the many paint-style finishes.
  21. Hilariously, the Penguin's AOW would be legal in Kali with the proper paperwork! I don't see any pricing, but these look like they could be real... I sort of want one now! http://penguinmunitions.webs.com/umbrellaweapons.htm Kinda looks like bullshit, but I did poke around and found an email address: penguinarms@mailinator.com
