  1. I took some measurements in order to confirm that your gunsmith is correct. You can't always trust your gunsmith, trust me.... ;-) Taking a standard 1100 remchoke setup, if you were to install them in the Saiga barrel, the ID would need to be opened up to .820". After externally threading the barrel to 7/8-28tpi, the bottom of the thread is at .821", which leaves about zero wall thickness between the two. This would not work. You need at least .020" wall remaining to be safe in my opinion.

    Muzzle Break

It appears that you would need screw-in chokes installed in your barrel first, if you want both chokes, and this brake. If the brake is installed directly onto the barrel, then you still don't have chokes, if I am understanding correctly by their description.
  3. The main reason that short barreled shotguns have never been very popular is due to the reduction in magazine capacity when the barrel is cut down on a tube fed gun. A short barreled magazine fed gun has really never been on the market. I don't know of any SPAS-15's or USAS-12's that were cut down and I doubt anyone is going to do one today based upon their current cost. There were some short barreled street sweepers made, but again, they do not have a quickly detachable magazine.
  4. It's not really an issue sharing info with a weekend gunsmithing warrior, but the net is wide up to everyone, including other competing gunsmiths. I will let them figure out how to do the shorty gas system on their own. In general, just cut out a section of the gas system, and weld everything back together.
  5. It would run $385 to tear it apart, add the Tromix shorty gas system parts and cut the whole thing back to 15.5" and add the flash hider.
  6. I run stainless follower plates for my 50AE AR-15 magazines all the time over at the CNC laser cutting place, so I thought it just makes sense when they have a sheet of stainless layed up on the table, might as well cut some other parts at the same time. But, it runs $200 to have them program a new shape in the machine, so if I don't have $200 in business on the product line, it gets deep sixed.
  7. The Cutts comps were big in the 70's and they have ruined the collectibility of more nice Model 12's than anything. I have fired a bunch of guns with them installed and it did not appear that they cut recoil at all. It's more of an increased noice maker, than a recoil reducer. It is also awefully long. Maybe they will make a come back, along with the fondue pot.
  8. I am going to pull this off the market. There is obviously not enough demand (none) to support setting it up on a CNC laser cutter.
  9. For the price of the gun, you could just by another one and part it out. You could probably make more money on selling the individual parts than the complete gun would cost you.
  10. The way I cut the barrels down on the Tromix guns, is to chuck the muzzle end in the three jaw chuck, install a steady rest down stream on the bed, bearing on the barrel directly where it enters the receiver. That way the whole thing is spun straight and I just come in with a carbide cutter and part it off. Of course without a lathe, that is not an option. So just hacksaw it off, and file it flat. It may not look perfect, but it will work just fine. The barrel is awefully thick, and reasonably hard, to where I don't think a standard pipe cutting hand tool would handle it. I plan
  11. There is not much that is going to break on the Saiga, and if it does, I can make a replacement part. KY Soldier, I have new Saiga U.S. gas tubes if yours happens to break. ;-)
  12. It would be best for you to supply the gun for the conversion. You could have it dropped shipped directly to me if you like. Unfortunately, I don't have unlimited cash resources, so buying 20ea of these is a pretty big hit. I am planning on running another batch of 10ea, with 15.5" barrels and 2.5" permanent flash hiders.
  13. Well that didn't take long. New U.S. made Tromix Saiga-12 stainless steel magazine base plates will be available by the end of the week. $8ea shipped. See pic. http://www.hunt101.com/showphoto.php?photo=239165
  14. I am going to run off a batch of stainless steel Saiga-12 magazine floor plates. $8ea shipped. Even if you don't need the U.S. parts count, I think they make the mags look a bit more sanitary anyway. Tony Rumore Tromix Corp www.tromix.com e-mail TonyR@Tromix.com
  15. No need to screw with a Money Order, just send me a personal check. I will toss your hider in with the batch when I run the other 10ea. Tony Rumore Tromix Corp 405 N. Walnut Ave #8 Broken Arrow, OK 74012
  16. Thanks. For some reason I never pushed on it, since it appeared to be a sprue off the injection molding process.
  17. Anyone know how the base plate is removed from the Saiga 12 magazine?
  18. The cut off rivet in front of the trigger might fall out after you fire the gun for awhile. I would suggest using some sort of bonding agent on the inside to hold it in place. Of course, if you have a TiG welder, I would weld it and blend it out.
  19. I can sell you just the flash hider with a set screw if you like, but I am not sure if that would hold it on unless you at least drill a dimple in the barrel. It would probably be better to just use red lock tite and don't plan to remove it. The hiders are $49. I will do them all up in a batch when the other 10ea are done. By the way, all 10ea of the shorty shotguns have been sold.
  20. Measure the length of the barrel by inserting a cleaning rod down the muzzle until it strikes the bolt face and mark it at the muzzle (with the bolt closed). Remove the rod and measure it.
  21. The basic gun runs $695. The picatinney rail, vertical grip, HK sights, flash hider, and tactical light are extra. You can use the original vent rib sight just fine. It has the correct U.S. parts count. Here is a pic of all the guns awaiting test fire. All but 2ea are sold. http://www.hunt101.com/showphoto.php?photo=238802
  22. Yes, I could do a shorty and just put a permanant 11" long flash hider on it. I have two more Saiga's here that I did not put on paper as SBS' yet. I plan to make both of them into 15.5" guns with 2.5" permanent flash hiders. The gas systems will be identical to the 12" guns, but the single gas port will be a bit smaller. The pricing would be the same either way. 8 of the 10 twelve inch guns have already been sold.
  23. As of 4:00pm, they are out of stock.
  24. The length of pull is either 13" or 14" depending on which ACE stock you bolt on it, I have both. They also sell a super shorty and I think that drops it to about 11.5" or so........ perfect for a small petite miget wearing a snow suit. Personally, I like the long 14" pull. 13" is about standard on american guns of this type. I have tried the flash hider during the day and there is no flash present, but that doesn't mean much. I need to fire the gun in the shop with the lights out to really see how it does. I am sure it will help quite a bit, but to kill the flash entirely on a 12" 12
  25. CDNN still has plenty in stock. The previous post about them being out of stock was incorrect.
