  1. Interesting, I was told to LEAVE a small amount of Hoppes in the barrel for long term storage! Many common cleaning kits will have 2 kinds of juice, one harsher one to really eat up the scuzz, one for a final lube/protectant. Not too big a deal, but I have just found that using the CLP as a final step is easy because it can be used on all areas of the gun and not harm the finish of any parts externally.
  2. I have to learn more about these.... Sounds like I know what I am spending $15 on. Thanks! Thank you so much for this reply! I have been using Hoppe's for my weapons, and I had to use brake cleaner on the 22 I got. (It was put away dirty 10 years ago and ignored since) Why is CLP better or different from Hoppe's? I still have so much to learn. O.o I use a barrel cleaning agent, like Hoppes for initial cleaning of the barrel. They have solvents in them to eat away the scuzz, It is best to then use the CLP to remove That stuff, and leave a very light protective c
  3. So you really think the snake can clean out all the scum from the rifling better than a brush?? Seriously? I don't use a bore snake, but that is hard to imagine, if your standard for a clean gun is the same as mine....My barrel looks NEW inside without a speck of dirt in there. If the bore snake can do that, then I would be interested......just not certain that is the case.
  4. i run the rod down the barrel with the plastic tip used to hold cotton patches on it to avoid any possible scatching, then I take that tip off and screw in the brush, but most 3 piece rods are softer aluminum and won't harm the barrel. I always go in one direction, from reciever to barrel end. Brushing the other way throws dirt and contaminents into other areas, and thusly, you will end up cleaning up the same dirt twice. Much cleaner to go toward the muzzle and hold a cloth over when "Pullin-out" to avoid spraying your junk all over. I first spray a cleaner into the barrel, Then brush a fe
  5. I made some T-shirts to go with my VW bus. I thought they would be a fun thing to do, and to raise $$ for the upkeep of my Wonderbus. Enjoy.
  6. I think it's kinda ugly, but it IS black, so folks will probably buy 'em. That costs Twice what I paid for my Mosins to begin with, and more than a 440 round tin of ammo. I'll pass.
  7. Never been one for "Hero worship" myself, and always thought buying bracelets and Troop magnets only support plastic manufacturing plants. I hate to be "Soap-boxy" but all I can say is that in many respects, Good parents are the only Real heros left these days.
  8. Nice to see that he had the "Ball" to finally stop lying!!!
  9. Funny, but if I want to kill a tree.......I use a fuckin chainsaw, dude....
  10. Does anyone besides me think it is a good idea to get some contact info from fellow, likeminded S-12 members? I really hate being the guy with the tin foil hat, but when things started to get whacky, and this site went down suddenly, I felt a bit out of toutch with likeminded folks who may be good to stay in contact with in any random regional emergecy.
  11. Sorry, this does not help, I'm just stoked about it, but I just found some 440 round cans of x54r for $90 each and bought all that he had! Not a bad price at all.
  12. I have shifted more toward shooting Clays with cheap ammo, and more of the .22 as well. I find that realoading has always helped me shoot more often, and on the Cheap, so I reload a few calibers. I also shoot the Mosin Nagant a bit more often.....I plan on that being my Deer rifle next season.
  13. Winter is a hard time to get exercise for me. I have been encouraged to join in on some Cross-country skiing. I thought that if I incorporate placing some targets in the woods, along the route I choose, and bring the x39 along with a 40 round mag, I could really enjoy this sport. Better than a tiny rifle like they use in the olympics!!! The area I am planning my Biathalon fun in is all forest service land and shooting is OK. Now that the Ski season is already in full swing, I can get set up with skiis and stuff at a reasonable price!(less than a case of ammo). I need to get rid of my littl
  14. We've always had 'em here. Almost lost a cat to them, but I guess she was a good fighter. My Grandfather would just.....I know it sounds crazy these days, but he would Give me the .222 rifle and tell me to go get 'em!!! Of course I was already 12, and instructed on safe use of firearms. Imagine what a modern politician, say, from N.Y. would think of that!!! A 12 year old responsible enough to use a "High powered Asault Sniper Rifle!!!". No Way!! Gotta be a licenced 21yr old at least right? (stop rant) Anyway, it was a good time. We get some big ones, but with Wolves around you don't see the
  15. Just got back from our bigger local gun/ammo store. Plenty of x39 @ $299 case for FMJ, .308 @$700 per case, and plenty of most popular calibers in bulk or by the box, except for no .223 at all.
  16. Shoots good in mine!! I use the SWC because they punch that big hole in the paper. I always thought that is what the function of them was. A good target round that makes easy to see holes in the paper. I shoot my S&W Cheifs special w/1" 7/8 barrel and with constant practice I can now hit the 50yd gong @ the range 4 out of 5 shots.....So much for it being an "Up to 25yd" gun, eh?? Heck, didn't that fella on the American Shootist use a snubby .38 for popping balloons @ 200yds??
  17. I like it a lot! You need to be ready for the snappy recoil that flips it upward, but a very accurate pistol! I will not be selling this from my collection!! A keeper for sure. It has had a factory trigger job done a long time ago. I have all of the paper work and original parts.
  18. We have one of those little cafes that are hidden in the back of a bar that has no sign outside, just 2 initials on the door. You would walk right past it if you didn't know it was there. It's the best bar in the world as far as I am concerned. It's called Charlie B's, and the cafe is the Dinosaur cafe. Awesome cajun food for the last 20 years-ish.
  19. Super tasty Cajun fried shrimp po-boy and some cajun stew!! This is really just to make Sunnybean jealous!!! Anyone else end the week with a great lunch?????
  20. I sold my DPMS, not because of any problems, just a real bitch to clean. The little pins you need to remove, come out easy with the 5.56 version of the AR platform, but the .308, they were like pulling teeth! I seriously worried about losing one while trying to pull it out, and then have it go fying, and HOPE I can hear the little "Ping!" when it hits the floor...... Super Accurate though!!! Sub MOA @ 100yds with cheaper federal hunting ammo. You are making a Fun purchase, so go for it, but the DPMS really impressed me with its accuracy. The Saiga .308 impressed me with its ease of use/mai
  21. If by "WE" you mean "Retailers", I agree. I don't recall taking off any price tags and replacing them with higher prices. I have always bought in bulk, in advance, and have bught only 1 case of ammo lately @ a normal price.
  22. Yep, you guessed it! Plenty of other guns being sold as well. Nice hunting rifles for gifts!
  23. I went down to the local gun shop that has a big inventory of guns/ammo today. The lovely Lady settled on a S&W Airweight hammerless snub nose .38. It fits her hand perfect and she likes the trigger pull and hammerless feature. Merry Christmas to her, eh? Got it in black, because Black is rebelious and cool, like The Fonz! I also picked up another 1000 rounds of hollow point 7.62x39 ammo for $299. They had aprox 60-70 cases of 7.62x39 ammo on display, but only 1 case of .223 left. They were sold out of AR and AK type rifles, where they usually have at least 10 of each on display. Pistol
