  1. Nice. If you got a Gunfixer's gas plug to replace the factory plug you'd likely see even better performance with low brass.. and have less of a chance of overgassing your gun with high brass. I just really like the major improvement in control the Gunfixer's plug provides. 4 settings rather than 2.
  2. I wouldn't regret my decision if I were you, imarangemaster. The differences between the SGL20, (or SGL10), and a factory Saiga 7.62 are largely cosmetic. The main reasons I bought the SGL20 instead are that it's a joint effort between Legion and Arsenal Inc, which I thought might yeild a slightly better fit and build and I wanted a rifle already well-converted, with all the military features in place such as bayo lug and barrel threads. I didn't want to buy a project, but I still wanted a newly produced Russian semi-auto AK. I have my project gun in the Saiga 12, (which just costs too dam
  3. Yep, it's got 24x1.5mm RH threads, no adapter necessary. That brake on Copes looks like it's large enough for a 7.62x39 bullet to pass through, and it really would be stupid to make that brake in two seperate calibers, as they're pretty damn close. Anyway, thanks for the link, sal.. now I find myself spending ~$150 on Copes' site, (gotta make every online purchase "worth it" y'know ). I was considering buying Arsenal's brake, but they're pretty proud of it and want $80. I'll definitely go east german instead.
  4. I bet you do Jugg, since your namesake sports plum from head to toe. I chose plum because it's more interesting than matte black furniture or od green.. and I plan to keep the plum handguards rather than swapping them out for rails etc. In case it wasn't clear in the pics, I also chose the NATO length stock.. as I have big ol orangutan arms and it's a more comfortable LOP for me. Of course I will be swapping that out for a collapsible T6 but /shrug.
  5. Thanks for posting, the unit look great! You should get the German "Zig-Zag" 74 brake for it though. Copes has them. Not a bad idea, sal. The brake that's in the pics is some combloc milsurp brake I picked up for $19, (came complete with ancient cosmoline!). It definitely reduces recoil, but the finish is pretty rough, including the threads. Interestingly it was pretty tight when I installed it, but after putting 30 rounds through it, it has a bit of wobble. Not enough to impede the path of the bullet of course, but it annoys me. I s'pose I could fix it with a crush washer but for
  6. SaigaNoobie, you rotten bastard. You know you'll burn in Hell for jokes like this.. April fool's or not.
  7. Here are some better pics of my new SGL20 rifle. It came with a matching plum standard AK pistol grip, but I replaced that with a CAA pg yesterday and I'm too lazy to put it back on just for pictures: It's the highest quality AK I've ever personally handled.. perfect fit and finish. And of course, she's accurate as hell. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. And btw, in case anyone is still wondering, Lancasters blow goats in comparison.
  8. Got some pics posted above. Looks like I had the flash way too high for some of em. I'm gonna try to get some better close up ones today.
  9. I took my new Arsenal SGL20 and as yet unconverted Saiga 12 out today to make sure they work. Unfortunately, it snowed about 2 feet over the last week but warmed back up so it all melted. The hills where I usually go plinking are currently a hellish wasteland of mud; adobe clay mud. It's amazing that it's possible that a natural substance can be both that sticky and that slippery when wet, yet like concrete when dry. So.. since I wanted to keep my boots I didn't walk out to put any targets downrange, just shot the old barely recognizable fridge that's out there and some of the cans and
  10. edit: Well, that's cool. I can't upload the pics for some reason, (just says "uploading files..." forever), so I put some pics on imageshack.. but apparently I can't link to them on this board, ("Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed). So.. I'm out of ideas. Sucks, cause this is one sexy beast of a rifle.. but the forum seems determined not to allow me to share pics.
  11. ^ Wow, what bullshit. Joisey sucks. I'm not sure if a converted Saiga would be questionably legal under that law, but DamagedWorld has a converted .223 Saiga and he lives in NJ I believe. I don't think he's been arrested for possessing that "assault rifle".. so perhaps that law you quote doesn't apply to pg converted Saigas. *shrug* Just one more reason I'm glad I don't live in the Northeast.. y'all got some fucked up, unconstitutional shit on the books there! Of course under King Barry... bullshit laws like that will likely soon apply to the whole country.
  12. Hmmm yeah, that'd make a helluva youtube video. Especially if I had 20 rnd drums in each! The second S-12 is, in all seriousness, an investment if nothing else. They're not getting any cheaper and their importation will be outlawed just as soon as King Barry reckons he's got the political capital to rape the 2nd Amendment with another, more draconian AWB, (with no sunset this time).
  13. Just in case. If you meant why not a 3rd caliber instead.. well I don't need a Saiga .223, got a Rock River M4 for that. And.. I know that many feel differently, but imo there is a clear best choice of caliber for a shotgun: 12 gauge It's much more versatile than a 20 gauge or .410.
  14. Well, I drove over to my FFL tonight to do the electronic background check.. and to take a look at my new Arsenal SGL20 and Saiga 12. Both arrived Friday, and between my job and my FFL being busy as hell with a local gunshow this weekend, this was my first chance to get the paperwork done and see the weapons. All I can say is fuckin wow.. both are built absolutely beautifully, (especially in comparison to the last two AK-type rifles I owned, a GP WASR and a piece of shit Lancaster 3060). Problem is.. I need to wait until tomorrow to pick em up, cause I got another S-12 comin, due to be d
  15. did you even read her post? Well... if GoingPro has literally no tools, he's right.. he can't convert it himself. And btw, nice job, gothchick. Your S-12 looks great. I'm preparing to convert mine here in the next week and the only thing you did, that I don't plan to is all the internal parts polishing... I figure they'll smooth each other out well enough with use. No need to accelerate wear and tear. I'm sure I'm wrong in the eyes of many, (most?), of the more senior members here, but that's the way I look at it.
  16. Since you're going to install a bullet guide, don't buy more Tapco mags. I own 2. I bought them before I knew any better. Don't get me wrong.. they're ok for occasional plinking, but they don't have steel followers or reenforcement. Buy combloc or Korean 30 rnd steel mags till you have 10 or so. Then buy Bulgarian if you want some polymer mags.
  17. I haven't used that exact model.. but I do have the one threaded 14x1 LH from dph that looks identical, (except for the clip attachment obviously). It definitely does help moderate recoil some on the Yugo underfolder I've installed it on. Is it as good a muzzle brake as a properly made AK74 brake, (with correct gas ports and expansion chamber)? No.. but it does help some.
  18. You're welcome. I'm glad I was able to keep you from wasting your time and money on a Lancaster like I did. I know that I seem to have gotten an exceptionally bad example of a Lancaster, (at least I hope so.. and there aren't other Lancasters floating around out there that are built even worse), but even if it'd been the best Romy G build that shop had ever turned out, it'd still be inferior in quality to an Arsenal SGL20, (or any other converted Saiga 7.62x39).
  19. Their importation might be banned, (along with foreign ammo, "high capacity" mags, etc).. King Barry does hate a well-armed citizenry. I don't expect ones that are already in the US to be outlawed, Barry's not stupid enough to think that a new AWB that involved actual privately owned weapons confiscation would pass or be tolerated by the people.. at least not anytime soon. So.. if no more could be imported starting some time in the next 18 months.. then their value would increase quite a bit. As for how high they'll go.. they'll go as high as people are willing to pay for a newly produce
  20. Cool furniture.. if you're gonna just hang the gun on a wall to look pretty. If you were actually using a gun with that furniture on it.. those forward-pointing horns on the stock would be broken off within a month, at the most. As I said, it does look cool though.. and it's a nice display of true wood carving talent, (meth-fueled or not).
  21. That's subjective. What's a good MRD worth to ya? I should point out that it's the Docter MRD AK Irondot option that's $535.95. The Burris FastFire MRD AK Irondot is $285. Personally I think I'll go with the Burris. I'm sure it's more than accurate/dependable enough for my purposes... and I really could use the difference in price for Saiga 12 conversion parts. Keep in mind that even the Docter Irondot is both more compact and less expensive than Aimpoint MRDs.... and those still need a rail to mount to. The AK Irondot does not. Heh.. while checking out what Aimpoints are going f
  22. It is a tough choice, isn't it? I thought, "the gunner" looks good... but would "the pro" do a slightly better job of dissipating recoil? Then again "the judge" is a less conventional design.. could it work better? I still can't decide.
  23. If you're in the market for another Aimpoint, check out the link in my above, (edited), post. If that's the model you'd want, (the micro H-1), that seems like a good price...

  25. Why would you bother? It'd be an incredible pain in the ass for questionable benefit/s.
