  1. My suggestion is to find like parental minds in your district/parish and raise your concerns at the next PTA meeting. Put someone up for the next school board election. get involved. The only difference you can make is a positive one. The hard part is fighting through the seeming lack of progress in the beginning. My district went through this positive traditionalist change right before I got to HS. You bet I learned WWI, WWII, Revolution, Constitution, Bill of Rights, Dec of Ind. French and Indian War, Spanish American War and about that generations Ron Paul i.e. Teddy Roosevelt. The A
  2. For Saiga items I personally have had great customer service from Carolina Shooters Supply (CSS), King Armory (KA), Mississippi Auto Arms,(MAA). For non saiga items I stick to really only a handful of vendors as I am a very willing to remain loyal and part with chunks of my treasure for awesome customer service. I use, Brownells, MidwayUSA, SniperCountryPX, and Rainier Arms. That is not to say that others are deficient in this area, I just have never had a bad experience with these guys and they go the extra mile.
  3. Here's a general recap of the varied replies this thread has received to date: (not scientifically counted) Calibers (pistol): 45 ACP (8) 45 GAP (1) 9mm (3) 10mm(1) 454 Ruger(1) .40 S&W(2) .357 Sig(1) 454 Casull (1) .357 Mag (1) Rifle: 5.56 (2) 7.62x39(5) .308 (2) 6.5mm Grendel (1) Shotty: 12ga (5) .410(1) Other: Headbutt (1) Chainsaw(1) Hammer (1) Platform: Glocks are the runaway most popular pistol make (30 for model). S&W next in line. Mossberg the most popular shotty by far. all except 1 (590) were the 500 model .
  4. I understand your concern. I only expected caliber and platform i.e 9mm pistol or x39 rifle to be shared just to tap the collective knowledge/wisdom/experience of our community i.e why you/they would choose that particular weapon/caliber for the HD role. It has taken on a life of its own, however. I just have to say that I was most impressed with the suppressed AR (in 5.56 I presume?)
  5. That is what separates it out from the Drag/FPK/PSL mags hmmm... yeah, I have to agree with that major hurdle. The only remotely analogous feeding system I can think of is the long stack magazine on a gatling gun model 1871.
  6. The juxtaposition of your avatar, Yakdung, and the message has me OTFLMAO. Anyway my congratulations and best wishes to you Racegal!
  7. Problem is that the 50 BMG is rimless and double stacks are well established for those type of rounds. Rimmed cartridges are another whole ballgame.
  8. However, its a moot point if the FPK mag is a single stack.
  9. Is the 10 round mag for a 7.62x54R Dragunov single stack then? From what I remember.... it is. However, if not, copy its design and scale it up accordingly. Pardon me, but you lost me... How does copying a design and scaling it up to accommodate double stacked 12g rnds, solve the inherent problems with double stacked rimmed cartridges binding together? The 7.62x54R is also rimmed. The Dragunov (or better yet the FPK) is semi-auto / gas operated with the Kalasnikov design like the Saiga. My suggestion was to copy the solution to an analogous problem.
  10. I am now in fact in that exact situation. My backup is my Glock 30, (sub-compact .45 ACP, 10 round mag, loaded with hollowpoints, of course). Imo, the .45 ACP is the perfect pistol round. Just a quick tally for those joining us... AK (assuming in 7.62 x 39) and .45 ACP pistols are the most common solutions.
  11. Is the 10 round mag for a 7.62x54R Dragunov single stack then? From what I remember.... it is. However, if not, copy its design and scale it up accordingly.
  12. For something as important and fundamental as our arms we will find a way to make them wholly same state made. They did this back in the 18th and 19th centuries with their arms and today with CNC machines and such things we can sure as hell do it now. Prime example of a mass produced firearm by a"local" populace >>>> Sten MkII.
  13. I forgot to mention to specify caliber/platform. (just to see what the thought processes are out there for a non-shotty HD platform) For my .02 I went to my AR in 6.5 Grendel (under the proverbial bed) for 5 weeks til I got my S12 back.
  14. Here's the scenario , you have a S12 thats out for warranty work/PG conversion. You now are in need of a backup weapon for home defense. What is your goto gun now assuming the S12 was the primary?
  15. Personal preference.... I would have rather had it chambered in the non-proprietary .458 SOCOM instead of Beowulf.
  16. +1 His 6.5 Grendel mags are a quality product. I can vouch for those .
  17. +1. Krisfox is spot on. I should clarify my use of a Truglo. For a weapon thats range of inherent accuracy is under 250yds and this is for range/plinking/non-dangerous game a cheaper site would be ok. For the weapons my life depends on in one way or another I found that the EoTech 553 works best for me in terms of a 1x site.
  18. +2 1911 for .50 BMG (or .408 Chey-Tac for that matter) . 12 gauge for me all the way for availability of ammunition.
  19. If you haven't yet, give Empire Arms a try. http://www.empirearms.com/
  20. My 30mm Truglo does the job just fine for under $40.
