  1. Ditto on the surface prep. Everyone seems to have a different theory, the following works for me.... The Saiga's crappy factory paint is a bit rough to begin with, so I find there is seldom a need to sand the whole gun. Making sure the surface is clean and oil free is the first step. Lightly sand any areas with marring or scratches, use the existing factory paint as your primer layer, and apply two or three light coats of Dupicolor low gloss or matte black engine enamel. Under normal circumstances, each coat will dry to the touch in about 15 minutes. Let one coat dry, then apply the ne
  2. I received my type 07 FFL yesterday, and literally within a couple of hours of receiving the license, I got a call from Alberta from someone wanting one of my S12's. If there is a business member on the forum with an export license who can work with me, I would appreciate hearing from you. Or, in the alternative - your recommendations for a reliable export licensee would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Waffenschmied
  3. If you can't send it back for exchange, use some really good epoxy to secure the pin, and give it plenty of time to set. Just make sure you don't get any in the hinge itself or your folding stock will become a fixed stock. WS
  4. That is SO fucking gay. I am laughing my ass off!!! Actually Paulsky just sent an amazing rosewood stock over to my workshop. The work is great! I have been marveling at the design, and was going to send it to Two Feathers in NC to have it customized, but if you want a wood stock, this one is the bomb. Paul said he wanted it to go to someone who would appreciate it. I was going to put a finish on it, and send it to my friend Tom (who already has too many custom S12's for any sane man), but it sounds like you really appreciate a good piece of wood....LMAO! PM me with your address a

  6. How much do you want for that lightning bolt buddy? I've got a friend in Texas that most likely has to have one. WS
  7. Why can't you just charge it with the right hand the way MK designed it....LMAO!? PA, I'm especially distressed about you... first you get busted by the most retarded cop in Colorado for drinking beer in your own damn living room, and now you're convinced you should be charging your S12 with your left hand, when your right hand is right there next to the charging handle... Oh... whats that? So you can change mags at lightning speed? Just buy a damn 20 round drum chock full of 00 buck and clear an entire 360 degrees of attacking zombies before you need a reload!!! I knew you were a craz
  8. So you are saying the the pirates are only attacking the multinational corporations whose ships dump their waste off their coast and have consequently destroyed their fishing? OR Are you saying because some "multinational corporations" have supposely dumped their waste off the Coast of Africa and destroyed these former fisherman, now turned pirates, fishing grounds they have gained a moral license in your book to attack, kidnap and rob innocent third parties? Which you have to admit sounds a lot like terrorism... Because is sounded a lot like the latter was the case that you were
  9. I agree with this as well. I was going to post an image of bolt carrier (piston) rods from some of my guns, but Dylan has already done an excellent job. There is no way your carrier rod should be showing five threads. This could have been the previous owners attempt to adjust the gun for a particular load, or it may just be that the rod has worked its way out with time. No way to know why it is where it is, but you are obviously encountering problems as a result. I have fired thousands of rounds through one of my guns and hundreds through others and have never encountered t
  10. People with small minds generally take out of my posts what they will, but the facts remain: Piracy is a symptom, not the disease. If you want to solve the problem, you attack it at its source. Not suse what Obama has to do with what I was saying, maybe you thought you would come across as witty, or funny, so I won't call you an idiot for bringing him up. Well he is from that neck of the woods, so I understand the inference. I understand what you are saying here though when you claim that Piracy is only symptomatic of the decline in the local fishing industry... On the other
  11. I don't know how things are done in Saipan, but if someone were to attempt something similar at the range where I regularly shoot, he wouldn't last ten seconds. That a shooter was able to accomplish this at a range - says to me that others had to be extraordinarily constrained from responding. I won't say it couldn't happen here, but it is doubtful that the shooter would get out of the range under his own power. WS

  13. Just to reiterate. It sounds like the rod on your gun is screwed out too far. I would hate to hear that the assembly has come apart on you during a session at the range. You can always use a buffer once you are sure everything is in good working order, but first make sure the gun is safe. WS
  14. Threads showing are not normal, and the extra length could be causing the bolt carrier to strike the rear trunnion. I suggest you stop shooting the weapon, take your gun to a gunsmith, and have the rod properly seated. WS
  15. Don't go after the hammer or you may unintentionally end up with an unlicensed NFA weapon. I agree, replacing the FCG is the most efficient way to solve the problem. WS
  16. (A.) A cue tip has about the same diameter as the pin. Cut the end off a cue tip and use it to hold the spring and tang in place. If you don't have enough hand strength to hold everything in place while you shove the cue tip shaft through the assembly, ask your wife to help. Once the assembly is in place, use a pair of dykes (a cutting tool) to cut one end of the cue tip flush with the outside edge of the tang bracket, and push the steel pin through the hole in the outside edge of the tang bracket while continuing to apply pressure to the tang and spring to keep the assembly in place.
  17. We're so pleased to have you here as the board liberal, Sal. Your perspective is always entertaining - if not entirely realistic. So, you're basically saying "Dont blame the poor pirates, they are just victims of polluters doing the best they can to make a living." Perhaps you are right that they are just simple fishermen, driven to desperation by the callous greed of others. Whatever the truth may be - I want some of whatever it is that you are smoking. That's some good shit! We will have to agree to disagree. I think every one of those motherfuckers should be hunted down and
  18. Good question. I think there are a couple of things to consider. (1) The top side of the gun from the dust cover to the gas block would have to be removed and replaced to properly install the new system. (2) Few Saiga owners are intrepid or knowledgeable enough to attempt to do the work themselves. (3) Cost. If you get it off the ground, I would love to have the option to modify my own guns. The other obvious option would be to convince Izhmash to import an upgraded "sporter" version of the gun, for which they could charge significantly more than the base model. As they are already
  19. There is a difference between activity, and action. One merely resembles productivity, the other is the definition of productivity. IMHO WS
  20. Over the years I have never had to use any of the training I received, and I'm grateful for that. These days - defending myself with hand to hand seems like a fools play. If I can, I'll walk away. If my opponent won't let me, he's likely to get a quick lesson in ventilation...lol! WS
  21. I've been thinking about Systema also. It looks very no-frills, all business, and effective. There's a couple of places in my area (Dallas) that offer it. Think I'll pay them a visit. Thanks for starting this thread. Sounds like Krav. My wife and kids have been receiving instruction for over a year now. The Krav instructor taught hand to hand in the military, uses whatever is most effective for a particular situation from a variety of disciplines, and every time I go to class with the family, I feel my years in Tae Kwon Do were wasted time. Within a couple of weeks this guy had
  22. LOLOLOLOL!!!! Yep, I read about that this morning. Apparently the US military had the area under surveillance - the pirates called in right after the attack, and then were not heard from again. My guess - some lucky pilot, or Naval aviator got in some live fire practice, and rendered the former pirates into ragged bits of tasty shark chum. Wish I could have seen the looks on their faces!!! WS
  23. Just out of curiosity, was the gun you bought from Peach State a stock Saiga 12, or a converted Saiga 12? Thanks. WS
