  1. Just got my sights in today. They kick major ass and are rock solid. They line up perfectly as well. I was having trouble with the factory sights being too low, but these ones are raised to the perfect level. Thanks for the quality product.
  2. Ok, here's the deal- I received a UTG quad rail for my Romanian AK from CSS yesterday. When I opened it up, it had signs of use (there were some scratches and dings on the rail, and the bag that held the screws had been cut open). I e-mailed Greg to see what could be done about it, and he got back to me right away (I e-mailed him before I went to bed, after midnight, and he actually e-mailed me back about an hour later!). He even called me first thing in the AM. Turns out, he had no idea that the rails were coming in like that. His distributor had been sending him used products, and he
  3. Edited out- figured I'd contact CSS and see if they can make it right before complaining on here.
  4. Sluggers are great. Every time I go to Wal-mart I try to buy a 15-round value pack. They're $8.97 here. Plenty of oomph. When shooting Sluggers, my gun cycles on -1 (most restricted) with the Gunfixr plug. I got an MD Arms plug, but haven't gotten around to taking the S-12 out since I've gotten it.
  5. Thanks for all the great advice, Shadoh. Only reason I don't want to mess with it right now is because I Loctite'd the s#!* out of the handguard retainer screw, and don't feel like taking it off right now.
  6. Not that bad of an idea! I have a vise around somewhere but need to mount it to a sturdy bench. If I just leave it how it is and just adjust the sight to make up for the crookedness, is the canted gas block going to hurt anything mechanically? The only thing I can think of is the piston rubbing against the gas tube, which doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
  7. I agree, I love ordering from CSS. I'm only a few states up, so the stuff always gets here super fast. Whenever I need to do a conversion, that's where I order from.
  8. Should I be worried? The slight crookedness doesn't bother me since I can adjust the rear sight, but could I possibly mess up the threading on the retainer screw hole?
  9. After installing a Chaos extended rail on my S-12, I saw that the rail is slightly crooked when comparing it to the rest of the gun. The rear rail key went into the notch (and doesn't wobble at all), and the handguard retainer screw tightened down without any problems. After tightening it down, I noticed that the rail wasn't centered. Maybe the retainer screw hole on the bottom of the gas block is slightly off center? Anyone else have experience with this issue? Not really that big of a deal since the sights I'm getting can adjust for windage, but I was just curious.
  10. Thanks for the quick response. Will hit it with a little bit of blue.
  11. Just wondering if anyone puts a dab of loctite on their handguard screws. I just got a Chaos rail, and I have some blue loctite on hand. Was thinking about putting a little bit on there.
  12. I agree on the quality of the Troys. In fact, the reason I'm interested in getting the Micro's for the S-12 is because I have a standard Troy rear BUIS on my AR, and it is outstanding. They are definitely pricey, but you get what you pay for I suppose. I probably won't pick the set up until next month, but when the rail comes in, I'll throw on my regular-height Troy sight on there, and if it sits too high, then the Micro's should be the answer.
  13. I was actually just about to ask the same thing, good thing I used the search function first! Anyone else have input on the Troy micro flip-up sights in conjunction with the Chaos extended rail? I just ordered myself a Chaos ext rail, and I'm really digging those FDE Troy sights. Using an ACE stock, it's a pain in the ass to get a good sight picture using the iron sights. My line of sight is about 1.5-2 inches higher than the iron sights (big cheekbone I guess? haha). Even if I press my cheek down hard, I still can't get the front bead level with the rear sight. The receiver block has a lo

    Just got her

Are you 922r compliant with that drum in there on an unconverted gun?
  15. Just got my drum and plug in the mail today. Super fast shipping! Workmanship on both looks fantastic, that drum is rock solid. The only downside is that I had to remove my folding stock to use the drum (Virginia law), but I really only used the folder for storage anyway, so no biggie. Very satisfied, will definitely be ordering future products from MD Arms.
  16. So if those of us who have converted theirs have problems like this, are we pretty much screwed? I think I read somewhere that no spare parts are being imported and when warranty work is done, they have to cannibalize another Saiga, correct? Would hate to have to spend another $500+ on a new gun just to fix a broken bolt carrier.
  17. I picked up a few value packs of Winchester 1 oz 2 3/4" slugs, so I'll give those a shot next week (no pun intended). I usually just stick to bird and 2 3/4" buck in the S-12, but since I can only shoot slugs at this range, I'll have to find something that works well for me. Thanks again for the help. EDIT TO ADD: I just popped off my receiver cover, and looked at the carrier and the rear trunnion. There is paint missing from both, but it doesn't really look like any damage has been done. Is it normal for the carrier to touch the trunnion and trade paint?
  18. Mike, thank you very much for the solid explanation. I will definitely keep an eye on the rear trunnion. When I go shooting with a buddy next time, I'll stand at his 4 o'clock and see how far the bolt/carrier go back with Sluggers. I was asking because the range I go to only allows slugs (aside from a patterning lane, which is mainly for testing out chokes for hunting), so that's pretty much the only thing it's going to be digesting. I'm sure the KO slugs would function on setting 2 just fine, but the Sluggers are the only CHEAP option, since they have those value packs at Walmart. So if I
  19. Shot slugs out of my S-12 for the first time today. I was shooting Remington Slugger 2 3/4" slugs, and a few Brenneke KO 2 3/4" slugs. I have a Gunfixer adjustable plug, and was shooting on the most restricted gas setting (-1 if I'm correct). The spent shells from the Sluggers ejected forward of the ejection port (some landed directly to the right, but most were a little forward), but landed about 5-7 feet away from the gun. Does that seem a little overgassed? The distance doesn't seem too extreme, but I always thought overgassed guns threw shells forward of the ejection port. Something i
  20. I got a bolt-on trigger guard from CSS for my newest 7.62x39 conversion, and just finished up last night. I noticed that when the bolt is sliding over the hammer, the hammer cannot go down any further, since the nut securing the trigger guard is raised and the hammer is resting against it. On my previous 7.62x39 conversion, I used the RAM trigger guard (screw in through the receiver, directly into the threads in the trigger guard), and when I had them both out side-by-side, I noticed that the hammer on the RAM one could go down much further, even when the bolt was resting on top of it. Th
  21. It's a known fact that on certain models, the factory Mossberg springs suck. That might be the cause of the problem. Get a pack of Wolff Xtra Power springs and swab out the inside of the tube before replacing. I got a 3-pack of the XP springs for my 500A 20" for something like 25 bucks, shipped.
  22. Not the length of the stock, the distance between the actual trigger and rear of the receiver. When you convert a Saiga rifle or shotgun, you move the trigger forward, check this image. You'd have to have really long fingers. I wasn't talking about using it on a Saiga, but on an AKM clone, like a WASR. I have 3 Saiga buttstocks left over from conversions, and I was just wondering if I could use them on those kinds of rifles in a pinch. If the pistol grip and trigger are where they're supposed to be, why would you need long fingers?
  23. Because of the length of the stock? Good point. I have really long arms, so it probably wouldn't be a problem. The Saiga stocks are about 12.5" from the back of the receiver, so about 2" more than a NATO-length stock. Might just keep one for the heck of it. Thanks for the info!
  24. I was nervous at first, but my file job worked out pretty well. I took a bunch of different steel mags (Romanian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Chinese, etc) and rotated them to see what kind of fit I was getting as I was going along. I actually took a dremel with a small grinding stone on it to do most of the work (saves you a bit of time), then after the mags would almost lock into place, I took a small jewelers file, and made everything nice and smooth.
