1. Do you need any other parts? I can probably piece together a nearly complete "unconversion" kit. My old trigger guard is kinda beat up where I ground the rear rivet and cut a portion of the front off. We need to start a SAFE Act relief program and collect all the old parts for our people in commie states that are caught off guard by these new laws. Hmm, I may just do that...
2. The ATF drones would know...they are watching;-) I am definitely more cautious than many people, usually like to err on the side of following big laws like that. And the way my projects go something would happen and I wouldn't be able to finish it for a year.
3. Definitely do all to CYA, remember that Ruby Ridge started over creating an illegal SBS. As soon as you cut the barrel, it's an SBS. If I were doing it this way, I would have a shop do it that has the appropriate licenses. I like to err on the side of caution on these matters. I would even feel uncomfortable removing the barrel then doing the work with all the questions about constructive possession.
4. Sounds like its hit and miss doing this. The bad thing is that it will be a lot more difficult to do work on the gas system with a welded brake on there. It's doable though, you could just slide the gas block down on the barrel. I would try to get it running the best you can first before doing permanent work.
5. I thought he just said that he was only looking at that stock, not that he had it. That's just my preference anyway so take it or leave it, no big deal. In case anyone was offended, I don't really think stocks are for pussies, it was a joke. I am just going for a stripped down look, I don't even have a side scope mount either or sights. Don't need those either.
6. Stocks are for pussies! :-) Cut the tang and go with the pistol grip only! I have actually considered the Ace folder, that looks pretty cool. I just don't like all the extra stuff on my S12.
7. Here's my favorite load so far, it's steel shot because I didn't want all that lead in my yard. This load works great for me. I've found that 1350 FPS and above usually works well for me. No need to waste powder going for extra power loads, the S12 can cycle reasonably light loads once you find the right amount. The shot size/weight isn't very important if you get the powder/pressure right. I used no. 8 steel shot if I remember correctly.
8. I think that I would rather have a few calibers in 18" adapters, like 22, 223 and 308. Still better than 3 rifles for weight and the accuracy/range makes it worth it. Edit, I was thinking shotgun numbers but I guess 16" would be fine since its a rifle, duh.
9. Edit: Never mind, Dolomite's link should work great.
10. Retracted, no longer for sale. I'm gonna finish this thing and likely keep it.

http://www.hornady.com/store/12-Ga-00-Z-MAX Thats what I have in my Mossberg 500 and my S12, for the zombies of course!
12. Did you search for railed stock or handguard. Looks like you are talking about the handguard and not the stock. Like this? http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/38198-adding-rails-to-factory-hand-guard/
13. I thought you were going to try and use a long bolt as a gas piston, makes sense for a SBS set up. That would definitely be a little too Bubba even for me:-)
14. Excellent, good to know. Thanks guys!
15. Like this but instead of a nicely machined end that I will just cut off, I'll just use a simple bolt.

http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-1284/Tromix-Saiga-12-shorty/Detail So I just need the thread dimensions from that part.
16. Anyone know the thread size for the gas piston rod? I chopped mine off and lost the threaded portion so I would like to go buy a bolt to screw into the cavity in the end of the bolt carrier and cut it flush then weld it. Thanks
17. Me too, my first thought was "no, it's not finished". Turned out very nice though!
18. He wasn't alone, Mr. Murphy was riding "shotgun" Great story, I love it!
19. If that was done to permanantly affix your brake for a legal OAL, that is not is not kosher per ATF. The weld would have to cover at least 1/2 the circumference of the brake. When the local Indiana ATF office approved RAA making welds like that on the 17" guns, that was not compliant with the previous ATF ruling on the issue. Tony Good to know (I didn't know the exact requirements), but this was for my mid barrel experiment with the Monster Brake, barrel is still original 18". Thanks.
20. TIG weld usually. I had a guy TIG a brake on my barrel but only 2 x 1/4" welds. A common method for permanently attaching muzzle brakes is silver soldering so that should be fine. Just take it easy and don't get the parts too hot. TIG is best for welding on the receiver, filling holes, back plate, etc.
