  1. Is your saiga already convertered or is it going to converted? If so do you already have those associated parts?
  2. Depends on how much you're willing to spend and how long you're willing to look for it and the associated parts that may be necessary to complete the install. The Best is going to be difficult to find as it can be very different from person to person. I prefer the SVDS/AK100 folding stock, but this setup is very costly. Are you looking for a stock that is russian or russian design or are you wanting an AR15 type stock?
  3. Run a tromix modified g2 trigger (3 parts: trigger, hammer, & disconnector) a US buttstock, a US pistol grip, and your favorite US hand guard and you're set as far as 922r is concerned. If you like the stock forearm or if money is tight run a CSS performance puck and change the hand guard at a later time. Welcome to the wonderful world of S-12's. Also you might want to take the gas plug off and inspect the amount of gas ports your gun has and the condition of them.
  4. I need 2 front latch kits as well.
  5. I'd wait for jte's new magwell to come out for that, as you would be able to use your drums with it. I'm leaning towards using 8 round SGMs with the SBS. I just want it to be light and compact, with the ability to change mags quickly. Drums are fun and I have other S12s that I can use them in, but I'm somewhat "drummed out". Maybe deep down I'm pissed about the DS mags not coming to market. The quad AK mags haven't either.... neither is good. I believe US Palm is working on quad stacks for the ak47 that were shown at Shot this year.
  6. Have you determined if your rifle will need a bullet guide of the proper shape?
  7. I would be willing to help relieve you of that particular problem . It would be hard on me but I could take one or 5 or all for the team here at saiga-12. Aren't the US folders with a 4.5mm hinge? I know it would be crazy expensive considering you'd have to have both Russian and US stocks but could you change it over using the 5.5mm hinge using the Russian parts on the US stock and be good to go? I don't have mine in hand yet to see if its even possible, just curious.
  8. Well on the rifles the op-rod is the piston where as on the shotgun the puck is the piston. Well crud, looking back at it, I don't think the hd rod counts as a 922r part so we may be out of luck until a new puck comes out. No problem, was just throwing out ideas even though I'm fairly confident you know all of this . Didn't realize that they had to be opened up. That stinks as that throws my plans out for the time being.
  9. EDIT: Assuming current part counts are correct with the iz-433, you have 17 potential parts to take into consideration. The muzzle attachment is the iffy portion on whether or not ATF see's a thread protector as an attachment per say but he's stated he's using a US made attachment. If the 433's op rod is the same as a regular S12 then you could potentially just install a tom cole rod. It's hard right now being the model is new to being imported here. At this point he would have the following imported parts: Receiver barrel mounting block bolt bolt carrier gas piston buttstock m
  10. For some reason I'm drawing a blank when you say tappet? I Know I should know what you're talking about but for the life of me I can't......I hate blond moments. Hopefully I don't make an @s$ out of myself but I would assume (uh-oh) that the parts count is the same between the 433 and 109's as they should be the same with exception to the way the gas is regulated. Sorry on the stock part, I was thinking of the people above who were using poly folders. I knew you were using the SVD stock (read envious). On the AK handguards, are they the same as what fits an AK or are they different so
  11. What trigger, hammer, and disconnector are you using? If these are US parts then with the US mags you are fine as is with the parts you listed above. Since you are using a folding stock, assuming 5.5mm russian stock set, you may have to wait to use russian mags until someone releases a new puck that is US made or if your handguard is foreign (unsure) then maybe find a US made set and replace and you should be good to go with any magazine.
  12. The only thing I've ever been told that circumvents requirements like that, which grain of salt applies here as I've never verified, is that a registered machine gun does not require sbr/sbs papers. Personally I'm sketchy on this as well and wouldn't trust that either. Oh well sorry for the off topic. Back on course. Great job on the -030 everyone. I'm sure I speak for everyone when i say that I'm jealous and admire all of the work and effort that has been put in so far.
  13. I was under the impression that sbs/sbr does not negate 922r requirements/restrictions.
  14. The trunion hitting issue I believe I have read is due to the fact that the actual s12 folding trunion is slightly different than the others to allow for more clearance. That or they are clearanced at the factory before assembly.
  15. The s12 has 15 parts as it comes unconverted. So you will need 5 US made parts. If you are going to use a new fcg and move it forward, grab a tromix g2 and you have three already in the hammer, disconnector, and trigger. Now if you never plan to shoot your stock 5 rounder again then you can buy any US made mag and then be legal with no other mods but if this is not the case then you need to find 2 more parts. A puck would be simple and also a hand guard. Just make sure you are only counting parts that qualify under 922r and that these US parts are replacing foreign parts. In this case adding a

    1st S12

In my iz-109bho s12 the RSA trigger was drop in although I had to clearance the safety like no other. But my bho is a lot different than the standard one.
  17. Yeah if you are going to add a muzzle device such as a hider or brake it does trigger 922r. If he wanted to be safe just change to a us made barrel protector although I have yet to find one, admittedly I haven't looked either.
  18. Maybe someone else can chime in that has more knowledge on this. In the end to convert it with the parts listed above isn't very expensive and easily done while avoiding any questions on legality.
  19. Correct me please if I am wrong but just changing the puck and hanguard does not take the gun out of its sporting configuration and trigger 922r. This way he could run the factory 5 rounder and should be fine as long as nothing else is changed. Ie. no muzzle device. But running the US made >5 round mag is not considered sporting and does trigger 922r and at that point does have the correct amount of parts. However I guess the mere fact he owns them and that the gun will accept them might be enough to trigger 922r compliance. Thoughts?
  20. According to atf the saiga 12 has 15 parts as far as they are concerned and in a non-sporting config you can have no more than 10 foreign parts on your weapon. If you run a us made mag you will have 3 922r compliant parts in the body, follower, and floor plate. Also replace the puck and that gives you 4 parts. Replace the hand guard and you will have 5 922r parts. At this point in an unconverted saiga 12 you will be legal I believe to shoot mags of greater capacity than 5 rounds as long as they are us made. This is of course assuming that ATF does not count the thread protector as a muzzle dev
  21. Would these be available for other people? I would love to go for this but I would need a template or jig for my comfort level to attempt. Go to saigatech.com for the templet $60. Thanks, there isn't a link for purchase do I just need to send them an email?

  23. Out of curiosity, the S12K's 430mm barrel length measurement is that including the flash hider or without it? EDIT: Just watched the vid on shortening the barrel and it is to the tip of the barrel without the flash hider.
