For plinking, and general shooting I like the 55 gr. Not too expensive, easy to find and lots of options. But if SHTF I'd load up with 62 gr green tips. Slightly more expensive, but I think worth it. I haven't gotten any 77 gr. because, as you said price and availability are two big drawbacks.

Gathering the pieces for my first AR upper build. So far I've got: BCM receiver DD 18" barrel VLTOR low profile gas block I also picked up a torque wrench, AR vice block. Waiting on the barrel nut and barrel nut wrench to be delivered. I've got a YHM can ordered so I will be using the YHM qd mount flash hider. I've watched plenty of youtube videos so I think I'm ready to start. Doesn't look that hard (famous last words, I know...) Any tips?

Oh shit. I'm sorry to hear that. I remember being a kid and going over the Cabela's catalogue with my brother during the winter, thinking about all the cool fishing lures we were going to get and all the fish we were going to catch. Sad to hear. They still got the fishing tackle, and these days have a decent collection of guns and ammo. I didn't see them gouge on prices either. I know they're not perfect but, I've been pretty happy overall. I hope it doesn't change things too much.

I got a RRA Coyote 20" upper. Easily sub 1" MOA. Nice upper. A little tight when mounted on my Detroit Gun Works lower, but better tight than loose. Thinking about their 18" competition upper. That or save my money for when MI allows SBRs.
