  1. What he said. Single hook.
  2. Lots of people pooh-pooh ProMag magazines, but are just regurgitating what they've heard. I haven't tried any in my Saiga yet, but I'd like to get a couple just to see if they would work well as a domestic source. I have however had ProMag magazines for three different handguns (and a Beretta CX4 Storm) and they all worked FINE. No mods needed.
  3. I got the Tromix modified Tapco G2 trigger group that came with a Shepherd's Crook... and it works just fine. A little tricky to get in, but not too bad.
  4. Pictures of the conversion I did yesterday: I learned a couple things doing the conversion the way I did it. -Grinding and drilling shit sucks, but you gotta do it. It's not bad, it's just kinda tedious. -Using the folding stock block, the tang needs to be cut off and ground flat. See the previous comment. -Using the Tapco pistol grip nut with a Hogue grip works out awesome, but you have to shave off the sides of the Tapco nut thing to work with the folding stock block. See two comments ago. -Using the Tromix modified Tapco G2 trigger kit is stupid easy to install
  5. Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah, I wouldn't mess with the gun itself. As I mentioned, 6 of the mags fit in there real well, no wobble or anything (my WASR 10/63 wobbles like crazy). I'd try shooting the 4 that don't fit well, but they don't latch in all the way. I bet they would fall right out! Pictures added to the picture thread!
  6. Just completed my first Saiga conversion today, and also received 10 magazines I ordered from JG Sales. They're all Circle 21 mags, plum or brown (kinda dark in here right now to tell). Out of the 10, 6 of them lock right in, and are solid to just a hair tight feeling. The other four insert, but won't go past the latch. I've been searching around for the last half hour and couldn't find a topic about this, but I thought I had read one before. I think the problem is that the sides of the mag that go up into the receiver are just slightly too wide. IIRC, the solution was to lightly
  7. That's very encouraging. I just got my first Saiga conversion done today. No ammo yet, so I'll have to wait until I get some in next month. I hope the rifle is accurate!
  8. Can't change my vote, but I wasn't able to use the BHO with my conversion. I used an ACE folding stock with the Miss. Auto Arms block, which blocks the BHO from being used. I kinda wanted to keep it. Oh well, no real sweat off of my back.
  9. I found that a folding (side or under) will fit nicely in a mandolin case. I'm SO going to use one for my Saiga.
  10. Yep, I've had my rifle for a few days, and while finger-fucking the bolt catch, the paint flaked right off. Makes me chuckle a little bit, but then, I did get the rifle for $300. I think I will take my time with the conversion and probably strip the receiver finish and paint with something better.
  11. This one looks like a winner if you're going to use something like an Aimpoint or Vortex Strikefire: http://kalinkaoptics.com/mounts/ak-vepr-saiga-romak-1-2-slr/pk-01v-aimpoint-to-ak-saiga-vepr-centered-side-mount-w-heavy-duty-30-mm-ring-special-limited-edition-v-3-3.html
  12. Voted yes. Just got my Sporter today, and I intend to keep the BHO. I like being able to lock the bolt open easily.
  13. Thanks, only makes me realize that if I want to use foreign surplus mags, I'd need to swap one more part. Do the gas pistons simply unscrew from the bolt carriers in the Saiga rifles?
  14. Well, if you change the pistol grip and buttstock... you kinda need to change the trigger, too. And if you're going to change the trigger, you should change the whole trigger group. Tapco G2 does it. US made pistol grip, US made buttstock. It's well known that these are plenty for 922r compliance. And I have a mandolin because the chicks dig it. Why else??
  15. First post... I have a Saiga Sporter in 5.45 coming in this weekend, and plan on doing the conversion. Already read a ton of topics here, so I really don't have any questions, but wanted to share something I realized. Before that, tho, I'll share a little of my plans: I plan on doing only the rear conversion - pistol grip and buttstock. I don't want to spend TOO much, but I'm not going to cheap out too much either. I'm probably going to use a Hogue grip and an ACE stock with the folding mechanism. (eventually get either an Ultimak rail or the Texas Weapons Systems rail/cover) I'll or
