@ Classic City Firearms if anyone is interested. $450 each. Only 2 in-stock.

Yes, bi-metal jackets. A layer of copper over a layer of mild steel. The two layers form the jacket.

Try armslist.com. It will be over priced, but available.

Those are the ones I was referring to. A fare price would be $25.00. That is what the retailer I use is charging for what they have in stock.

The price I gave you was for Israeli Orlites or the South African steel mags.

On January 4 Centerfire had them for $800.00 and now $1200.00. That does suck.

K-var has 7.62 and 5.45 saiga bolts instock. Maybe the .223's are next?

I get my galil orlites from Numrich Gun Parts in Kingston NY. Give them a call, they have really good customer service. I do not know the laws in NY, but maybe getting them shipped from a retailer within the state would help. Good luck.

I went the "AK" route myself. Reliability was the deciding factor. Check out some of the websites sponsors for conversion kits and do a conversion. I have over 2500 rds through my rifle and only 2 failures with tulammo (didn't clean it for a thousand rnds). Also, something chambered in .223 was a must because of ammo availability. Now the downside, I heard they are no longer being made (not sure about this) and spare parts are hard to find. It is a high quality semi-auto rifle.

A case of beer would be appropriate. Just give it to him after the work was done.

Put a descent scope on it, one proven to hold it's zero. I wouldn't lap it. They are chromed lined for durability, not accuracy. I wouldn't re-crown it either. Re-crowning may be a waste of time. I'm not sure of the twist rate in a saiga .223 barrel, but matching your bullet weight with your twist rate may help. They really aren't built for accuracy. I do remember a earlier post where the question was asked, what minute of angle should be expected from the saiga? Someone replied, MOD or minute of dead. I wouldn't expect much more from a Saiga/AK platform rifle at a 100 yrds.

What was the price at Dunham? We have one locally here and they have good prices on there guns. Everything else seems high though.
