  1. Be very careful with the tap if you are installing the bullet guide your self. Some suppliers have been known to send low quality taps. many stories on here about taps breaking off in the trunion. You may even consider buying a good quality one from a tool suppier,
  2. I have the 16" barrel and the 20" barrel saiga and I must say my 20" is more accurate at 100 yards than the 16" and my stock handguards are exactly the same.
  3. Both of mine are match striker recievers made in 09. But on the right side, I believe there was more than one importer that was scratched out.
  4. Painted mine with Krylon camo paint , tan ,green and brown.
  5. Had the same tap problem, poor quality tap supplied with the conversion kit. Bought a good tap and it went like butter.
  6. Did both of mine myself, once you remove the handguard, us a ruler an mark off with a pencil and the take a dremmel tool to it. Looks good and helps with heat dissipation but no real weight loss.
  7. anyone have the dimensions for the flat bullet guide for the saiga 7.62x39? Thanks.
  8. My 09 saiga 7.62x39 16" barrel has the button but my newer 20" barrel does not.
  9. Don't have a pic but did mine myself with a drill bit and a small cut off wheel, looks just like pics above. just lay out your lines and work slow.
  10. Thanks for your input Agent Lemon, but I'm just looking for price and availability . Thanks AZG I'll check them out.
  11. Does anyone know where I can get a saiga 7.62x39 20" barrel, sporter model unconverted, and what is the going price. Thanks
  12. Be sure to check the tap, sometimes they are not sharp and It will not matter how slow you go or how often you back it out, if it is not cutting it WILL break. I learned the hard way
  13. I have 4, one round and 3 flat, all 09' all dimpled, all the flats have step cut chamber.
  14. It seems Classic can be hit or miss. I've heard of them giving people the run around and not having the firearms they claim and slow about giving refunds. I called them to order 3 saigas 7.62x39 in 20" barrels. I was told they were out, was not expecting any soon, and were not taking backorders. The next week I called and spoke with a different person and they said yes they had plenty, I asked was this a new shipment and was told no we have had these. They were promtly shipped out the next day. Guess it depends on who answers the phone.
  15. Believe me, I have read on here SO many times about plenty of oil, go slow and all that, I was going VERY slow, not my first time using a tap. But this one would only go so far and just get tighter, just bind up. It was not cutting at all, after I broke it and then reshaped and sharpened it, it was actually cutting the little slivers of metal off. Aint sayin they send out bad tools all the time, this one may have just been a dud.
  16. My 2 saigas are pretty much "out of the box" exept bullet guide and mag release catch mods. I'm after functionality, if I were after looks I would buy a different gun.
  17. Maybe I should try them next time.
  18. You are so right Agent Lemon, as a jeweler I should have taken a closer look. live and LEARN.
  19. Thanks for the offer the madhatter, but I was succesful after I sharpened the tap. As luck would have it , it was my first bullet guide install!! Live and learn. Thanks to all the help on this forum, I was able to overcome this slight problem.
  20. Maybe this is why some people are breaking the tap while installing a bullet guide. Odered the bullet guide, tap, drill bit and screw from a well known vendor( not going to mention any names). Really took my time tapping the hole, but I was not getting anywhere, then the tap broke off, slammed it with a punch, that cleared the hole. Then reshaped what was left of the tap and noticed the cutting face of the tap looked like it had never been machined. I'm no machinist but I thought the cutting face for the threads should have been sharpened but it had a cast type grainy texture and just was not c
