  1. Thanks Dane. I got a patrol sling from Spec-Ops Brand. A bit bulky but I like that it's fully adjustable. I already do have a few mags so now I'm shopping for a vest/LBE... not that I need one yet since all i do is go to the range and punch holes on paper targets. =p
  2. I tried a UTG/Leapers gen5 QD side mount but it doesn't sit centered on my Saiga 7.62. It's off to the left by 1/2 to 1 inch. Is it the same for you guys or ?
  3. I agree with Chile and Rhodes. Unless you have some sort of super vision that the rest of us don't, no way you can even see a penny at 100 yards. ...or did you mean 100 feet?
  4. maybe I watched too many youtube videos... and forgive me as I'm still a newbie to the gun world. Got my first handgun just last October. As this was my first rifle and one that I would take with me to battle space alien invaders and such... i didn't think it would be wrong to call it a battle rifle. but for the most part, I guess I should have named it my shooting range paper hole puncher. =p
  5. ah... I had no idea that was your review on the buffer tubes! I had read that a couple of times before I went with the Vltor. I almost went with the CAA tube but didn't that it left a gap. So yeah, thanks for the excellent review Chile!
  6. Could be both! though more likely the sights might need to pushed left a bit. Again, at 25 yards, the target is a blurr to me. I was surprised the shots grouped at all hehe
  7. Thanks! Took it to the range for the first time after conversion. I LOVE that tapco trigger! So clean and crisp! I was also happy with my grouping at 25 yards with iron sights. Best was 3 shots all touching. Average 5-10 rounds were probably 3-4" groups. Problem is I just can't see that far lol and I don't know how others do it with iron sights or even red dots w/ no magnification. Oh well, it's good enough for me till I get a good mount for a scope. I tried a UTG side mount but the thing doesn't sit center. Might have to bite the bullet and go with Midwest Industries.
  8. Oooo.. nice conversion! I like the grips you choose. I also tried using that mag lock and could not get it to work so I tossed it. heh Here's what you are looking for: https://www.exilemachine.net/shop/mag-sgmt-ak47-75rd-drum-blk-554.html
  9. That Classic Red does look nice! and I like how they polished and nickle plated the carrier and bolt. But at $999... It will take selling both of your Saigas... don't know I'd do that but I'm not you. =)
  10. Let's see, my 2009 7.62 doesn't have that button nor does my 2012 7.62. But the 2012 Saiga 12 I picked up tonight does have it. *shrug*
  11. I choose the Magpul CTR stock with the friction lock. I have the mil-spec version and it's solid and no wobble. In order to use MOE or CTR, you'll need a buffer tube. That ATI Strikeforce Elite looks good but I didn't like the look of the mounting point and I'm thinking the stock might be a bit lose. Still good value.
  12. Thats sweet you won this Chile. Get it back yet? I'm actually getting my first Saiga 12 out of jail today! Seems there are so much more to a Saiga 12 conversion than the 7.62.
  13. That is the truth! I've actually started looking for places to *escape* to. Maybe Oregon or Navada... but that's another subject matter.
  14. I have one installed. Saw it on amazon.com and the reviews were good. I'd think it would do more good than bad... *shrug*
  15. Yeah, I hear ya Chile. For my other hobbies, I love it here since I'm close to the ocean and a short drive up to the mountains... but all the stupid gun laws suck big time! =/ I've still yet to find a place I can go shoot freely outdoors lol... actually, that is pretty sad.
  16. It's not that hard to do it yourself. There are some good videos on youtube. Search for Saiga Barrel Threading or Saiga 7.62 conversion to get some ideas. My local gun shop charges $50 for the job which I think is fair for the amount of work and tools you'd have to buy.
  17. Thanks! and also for the heads up. I'll change the avatar no problem. <---- There. No where near as sexy but now there is no chance someone else has this one. =)
  18. Yeah, I also had to file the gas tube which I learned was Romanian. Here's another close up shot of the retainer from the other side:
  19. Thanks! and that is the truth! Learned a bunch new things as I did this conversion from barrel threading, tapping screw hole for the bullet guide, drilling out rivets, barrel notching, sand blasting and refinishing with Moly Resin! I actually another 7.62 that I plan to build with wood furniture. And on Monday, I'm picking up a Saiga 12! =) And yeah, that is the new retainer from saiga-ak.com High quality piece, more reliable and less expensive than the bolt-on type. Mike at saiga-ak was superb at answering my questions on fitting. I highly recommend the product and his customer serv
  20. Had my 7.62 for a few months. Finally got to converting it just last week after lot of reading and going through all 67 pages of photos on this thread! Thanks for the ideas. =)
  21. Bought it a few months ago but took me a long while to decide how I wanted it. Was torn between traditional w/ wood furniture or to make it modernized/tactical. Anyway, here it is! Right out of box: Disassembled for refinishing with Moly Resin: Re-assembled: Upper rail modified: Parts used for the conversion came mainly from carolinashooterssupply, amazon and lower hand guard retainer from saiga-ak.com It was a fun project and just wanted to share. =) Phil. Edit: just noticed that this was my first post though I've been a long time lurker. I
