  1. I wish there was a spring you could install in the firing pin to insure that slam fires don't occur.
  2. Kinda expensive, but hey; it's made in America for a change. Looks a lot better than those cheap Chinese things you get from Centerfire Systems. http://www.onesourcetactical.com/index.asp...D=1187&HS=1 I'm not knocking Centerfire, it's just that I'm so sick of buying Chinese stuff.... but I won't go there. Long story.
  3. First off, welcome to the family. You'll love your new Saiga. As Jailbait stated, you definitely need a bullet guide to use the high cap mags. Do get your bullet guide from Dinzag. http://www.dinzagarms.com. Make sure you get the right one. Use the features we built into the web site to educate yourself on exactly what bullet guide you need to install in your rifle. For example: Is yours a flat trinion or round trinion? You can find the the pics on the web site to determine what you have and download instructions on how to install them. And yes, once your bullet guide is installed yo
  4. I just installed this CAA: http://www.impactguns.com/store/SS-49576.html Love it. It's the cheapest I've found. Other places wanted $35-$40 for the same thing. It comes with a variety of inserts to size to your hand. It's hollow so you can store stuff in the handle, like a broken shell extractor or other cool stuff.
  5. +1 What Cobra 76 two said. Inquiring minds wanna know.
  6. The best FCG out there for the AK is the RAA adjustable trigger system from Red Star Arms. http://www.redstararms.com/ You can adjust this trigger system to either a two stage military type, or single stage. It is very clean trigger system for the AK. Breaks real good with very little creep. Weight is adjustable from about 3.5 pounds to 8 pounds. You will have to employ the services of Mr Dremmel tool to modify your safety lever when you install this FCG, but it's no big deal. The instructions are almost moron proof. Hey, I did it.
  7. Oh yes, I was using bags with all the different ones. The G2 was the worst offender, but it's a clean trigger none the less. I just didn't feel safe with it acting like that. Hell, the last time I went out with the Kvar before I installed the RAA I had so many bump fires off the bag that I expected black helicopter activity. It's not to late to swap FCG's out. You could sell the G2 and recover part of the cost of the RAA. The RAA has a Wolf disconnector spring in it. I suspect it's the quality of the disconnector springs causing the otherwise good after market FCG's to bump on occasion. W
  8. I got my RAA FCG installed, and took it out to the range today for a tryout. I adjusted the weight of pull so that it is not so light. Geez, what a hair trigger this thing can be. I tightened it up to around 4.5 lbs before I felt comfortable. Nice real two stage pull. Unlike the G2 and Kvar, you feel a profound difference between the first and second stage tension before she lets off. No bump fires. Breaks real clean. Hardly any creep. I've had both the G2 and the Kvar FCG in it, and got occasional bump fires with both of them. No issues with the RAA though. It's the best FCG out there fo
  9. This should help. You need to download the pdf file to from Red Star to get the pics of the areas discussed, but it sounds like this should take care of the problem with uncontrolled trigger pull. From the pdf instructions: 3. Adjust the amount of disconnector engagement and the length of the second stage of the second stage of the trigger engagement trave. Rotating the set screw (D) clock wise decrease second stage engagement. When pulling the trigger threw the first stage travel length, the top of the hammer (Area I) should contact the disconnector face (area H) when there is a min
  10. Bolt on works for me. It's rock solid. Just clean the threads with alcohol and use lock tight (the blue removable kind).
  11. Read the FAQ portion of the instruction sheet that came with the RAA. It discusses this.
  12. Okay, in response to the thread about spare firing pins, extractors etc. Since nobody really knows the answer as far as I can tell, I e-mailed RAA and thought I'd post the response FYI. "Hi Donald, Thank you for your interest in our products. Currently we do not have replacement parts for all of our products. It is something that we are trying to rectify. In the past the factory has made us choose between parts and products. Naturally we take the products. But we have parts on order and are hoping to have a supply of parts to make available. Here is an accessory dealer that will car

  15. I found the CAA pistol grip at Impact Arms for $30, so I got it there.
  16. RAA will indeed accommodate you. Sounds like you have a burr in the FCG somewhere is all. I'd call them and make arrangements to ship it back. http://www.raacfirearms.com/contact.htm They stand behind the product. Don't lose money by pawning it off. Once you get it back or replaced you'll be glad you got a Saiga.
  17. Sounds to me like you answered your own question. The ought six is all you need then. For an intermediate battle rifle its hard to beat the AK in X39. Get some good ammo here in Barnaul or Brown Bear Mil Spec for it. http://www.ammuntiontogo.com. It'll put holes in em.
  18. I would stay away from the Samco Yugo surplus. It's corrosive. You really can't go wrong with any Wolf Mil spec, either FMJ or HP. Golden Tiger, Barnaul, Brown Bear, Silver Bear SP and HP ammo is all good. Don't know about Hot Shot. Russian ammo, especially the Mil Spec ammo is heavier at the base of the bullet and this causes the bullet to tumble with more frequency than other bullet types. Yes, the Russians know what they are doing. Get a mix of FMJ and HP of different brands and cut a few apart and see the differences in bullet types. Pick the brands with the most density at the base a
  19. Welcome to the forum, Miss Debbie. Yes, the guy was BS-ing you about the quality of the WASR verses a Saiga. Although the imported Saigas are somewhat sporterized for import, they are made in the same factory as the Russian AK's distributed to their military. That should tell you something about the quality. The newer Saigas are much easier to convert due to the fact that the necessary holes for the pistol grip and FCG (Fire control Group) are already there, they are just covered with a plate. You'll find all the help and knowledge here you need to convert yours to the closest thing t
  20. Check it out. http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Command...K_Grip_Kit.html Pricey, but if your trigger finger tends to coil around the trigger due to the small size of the standard issue AK pistol grip, this may be the answer.
  21. I was able to group an 1 1/2" 5 shot group @100 yards out of my converted Saiga 7.62X39 16" using Brown Bear 124 gr sp. The time I went to the range prior to that I got a 2 1/4" 6 shot group @70 yards using Golden Tiger 123gr FMJ. And there are two through almost the same hole in that group. In either case I can break clay pigeons all day long @100 yards no matter what ammo I use, except Wolf Black Box. I have a nice smooth K-var FCG, and an Eotech red dot sight on top an Ultimak rail. Usually, If I can see it I can hit with this set up.
  22. I would go here: http://ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/index.p...facturers_id=20 They apparently are out of the SP ammo, however, I would not hesitate to purchase the HP in either the Brown Bear or Silver Bear brands for deer sized game. I've shot the Brown Bear SP with very good results. Much better than Wolf IMHO.
  23. You could get hunk of this stuff and make your own, but it's a bit pricey. http://www.sorbothane.com/ However, folks that have tried it tell me that it makes even a 300 mag comfy.
