  1. Generally, bolt action rifles are more accurate than semis. Both will shoot well out to +200 yds. Where I live, I can buy a Stevens(Savage) 308 bolt for $289 NIB and a Saiga for $389 NIB. So, for under $700 you can get both and even with optics, mounts and rings, you're still getting 2 good rigs for the money.
  2. I've used 308 and 7.62x51 in my rifle w/ no problems at all.
  3. see world.guns.ru for pics of a Galat'z sniper with attached/positioned bi pod(I don't have a camera).
  4. The Galat'z rifle(Hebrew) photos that I've seen, with bi pod, have theirs attached exactly where my new bipod is designed to be attached on my Saiga(as I described above), so I think I'll benefit from some pretty good, experienced Israeli shooters.
  5. I'm getting a bi pod from a trade deal I struck, and this particular bi pod attach into the screw hole, that holds the screw, that fastens the foreend into the bottom/front of the receiver. It's the same screw and hole that you remove to remove the foreend off the rifle. So, this should be just in front of the magazine. In fact, when I shoot this gun, resting on sandbag,I have been resting the gun just in front of the mag, with good results. Thanks for all your learned opiniions.

    Bi pods

I have owned 3 Saiga 308s and my current one is the 21" barrel version with synthetic furniture. I have never used a bi pod on any of my Saigas, but would appreciate your suggestions on where on the gun would be the best place to mount a bipod in order to achieve the best accuracy. I've used,on other rifles, the clamp on barrel bi pods and the type that fit on the forearm swivel stud and have one on the way for my current 308, that will attach into the screw hole where the back of the foreend scews into the front underside of the receiver. Thanks
  7. I agree with the 45/70 Guidegun suggestion. I owned one in the 18" barrell and with open sights,it is one of the easiest handling, quick shouldering, lightweight guns that I have ever used. You can carry it out in the field all day long and not get tired. For me the sidearm would be a 44 magnum double action, 2" or 4" revolver on a hip holster, and don't forget,a long handled, strong, sharp quality steel hunting knife and bear spray.
  8. I have a Saiga 223 w/20"barrell. Was thinking that a Mini 14/30 shroud from Eagle would fit over the Saiga barrell. The Saiga FSB would have to removed,as on the Minis, and the shroud then slid over the muzzle end, back to the front gas tube, and then tightened/locktighted down using the provided screws. And, since there is more barrell "showing" on the Saiga 20" vs. the Mini's 18" barrell, the Eagle shroud should fit nicely. Any comments or ideas.
  9. I have used Fiochhi, made in EU, 7.62x39 FMJ ammo in my Mini 30,with good results... good groups,no FTF,FTF or FTE.Very consistant ammo.
  10. Thanks, limaguppy for your PM. I just received an email from RAAC's/Sales Marketing, Clyde Woods, that the Saiga factory mount does indeed fit/lock up on the 100 series 30 06 rifle, but that he did not try it out to see if it centered the scope over the boreline. He also advised me that Saiga makes a mount especially for the 100 series rifles, but they have not been imported to the US yet, even though RAAC has ordered them. He goes on to mention that he has 100 series rifles backorderd for 1 yr now and the US consumer demand is exceeding the supply.
  11. Will the same factory and aftermarket scope mounts that are used for all other Saiga rifles, also be used on the 30.06? The integral receiver base seems similar.
  12. I'm going to consider buying the 30.06, model 102. My 308 "woody" /scope mount/rings,on receiver side mount has never shot loose yet. I can live with 3 round mags, especially in 30.06!! I hope the 102 butt rubber recoil pad is effective,OR, a Limb Saver maybe in order.
  13. Shop around @ thrift store for used briefcases and luggage.Their leather, webbed or faux leather straps are sturdy, most have heavy duty metal or plastic snap swivels and are cheap. In Texas, we have Goodwill Industries and whenever I get a new/used rifle, I go to Goodwill and pick out a "sling" for it. Avg price is $4.00, AND you get a decent used piece of luggage or briefcase as well.
  14. I don't agree with everything Kurt Saxon's writes in that article, but some of it is true. He's certainly has been "around the block."
  15. Side get my vote. Dust cover mounts will always shoot loose, just like they do on SKS rifles.Total waste of money on a poorly thought out aftermarket accessory.
