$1000 is steep for me at this time. I missed a good chance a couple months back when a gun shop was selling there last ones for $800, plus the ol' lady would of killed me cause I wasn't working at the time.

I'm in the same boat with you. I just needed that little push on the decision. When I'm done with the Sx39 project I'll be looking for a S308.

The Saiga is definitely cheaper but has great potential. Robinson Armament still has 10 308 Veprs left for $1000. Some say Veprs are the Cadillacs of AKs.

I would like to know the pros and cons of these two rifles. Anyone have experience with both? Just curious to know.

I'm going to buy a Robinson Arms Vepr stock from "headshot", he said someone has installed it on a Saiga. I've used the "search" but can't find it. Anyone know where the thread is? or can help with installation? Thanks.

Cool. Those pics. helped. Now do I have to do any other mods for the BHO to work? Why do you recommend replacing the piston? I was thinking of just US made furniture and FCG for my conversion.

If you want to keep the BHO (Bolt Hold Open) feature on your Saiga rifle, then you will have to mill, grind, file, chew, about 0.040-0.050 inch off the side of the hammer that shares the retaining pin with the BHO. If you don't reinstall the BHO (pain in the ass to install but worth it to me) you won't have to modify the G2 Single Hook trigger group. louielouie thanks for the help louielouie. I forgot to add that I will not be converting to pistol grip. I'm going to keep the sporter configuration but modify it to take AK mags. Any trigger group help for this config. appreciated.

So let me get this straight. The Tapco G2 trigger group needs modification to function in a Saiga 762x39 and the FSE trigger group does not need any modifications to function in the x39?

I have been thinking the same thing. I decided to go with the 7.63x39. For me 100yrds is good for shtf situations and ammo is cheap so that means more practice without being broke. The more accurate the better...

Go to www.calguns.net you can find lots of answers to make your Saiga Kali legal or any AR15s(off list lower receiver), FALs, rifles etc. Join the club lots of good people and info. there. Also you can find Monster Man grips there. Hi, I've been lurking for a while and this is my first post. I am interested in getting the Saiga in 7.62x39 and converting it to use standard AK mags. My plans are to use Dinzag's bullet guide, Tapco (or other U.S. Made) gas piston, Tapco Galil style hand guard and Tapco's G2 single or double hook trigger group. I do not want to do the pistol grip conversion because I live in Kaliban and I can live without it. My questions are: Would this conversion be compliant? Can I just install/drop in the G2 trigger group without modifications? Is there anything else I am missing? I would like to
